Tommy the Toreador, starring Tommy Steele.

I knew Tommy Steele from Half a Sixpence and the Disney movie The Happiest Millionaire and it was interesting to see him in an earlier lower-budget musical. I also shouldn't have been surprised to find that his hit song The Little White Bull came from this film

And, @Mel O’Kalikimaka , also in the cast was British comedy stalwart and sometime Tony Hancock sidekick Sid James doing an absolutely atrocious Spanish accent.

I just saw an unedited 14 HOURS (1951) on broadcast TV with Barbara Bel Geddes -- she not in much of it, but she's such a cutey! Sometimes I wish she'd played Bill Holden's girlfriend in SUNSET BLVD instead of Nancy Olson.

Anyway, even Grace Kelly had small role in 14 HOURS! And it's a good movie.

The Witches (1990)

The last film made by Lorimar, by the way. And the last one Jim Henson personally worked on. It was my first time watching, so I'm a bit late to the party.


Loved: Angelica Huston; Mai Zetterling, Rowan Atkinson, Jane Horrocks, Brenda Blethyn, cracking SFX (especially Huston's wonderful transformations), a nicely dark atmosphere, the picturesque locations of Norway and Newquay.

Hated: The horrifically pointless Americanisation of the lead character. And for that matter the jarringly abrupt Hollywoodification of the ending.

CALL ME BY YOUR NAME -- resoundingly good. Nicely shot, wonderfully acted (especially by Timothee Chalamet who managed to cinematically convey every thought of his character from the book without effort), that ending monologue and that ending scene where he [highlight to read] cries on cue for several minutes), and with white hot chemistry between the two leads (Hammer and Chalamet). Wonderful.

DISTRICT 9 -- I've been meaning to see this for 8 years, and what a marvelous film it was!

The Witches has to be my favorite Dahl book and I bought the movie a few years back without having seen it before. I completely agree, especially about the ending. I can understand why they did it but was really disappointed nonetheless. The book ending was sad, but wonderful.
