So I got home from work tonight to discover a card left from the postman. I have to go pick up a package and pay £13.00 import duties and tax. I wrecked my brain trying to think what I bought, I am guessing it's the complete boxset of Hotel I bought from Australia! I probably wouldn't have bought it if I knew I'd have to pay that on top of the shipping fees!

Was it cheaper than the US release?

With the emphasis on "was"
I don't know... I think all in it's gonna cost me £63 now in total when I expected it to be £50. £50 seemed a good deal including shipping from Australia, it didn't even have a warning that I may incur taxes and duties. :( I better LOVE Hotel! I don't pay £63 for shows I don't Love.

I feel for you, Alexis. I've long since stopped buying from abroad unless I really need to. Particularly with the pound being practically worthless since Brexit.

It used to be buying stuff over £18 incurred charges, and even then it seemed that it was mostly stuff from the US that was checked and so was less risky to order from Australia, Canada, Japan or wherever on more expensive items.

Now I believe the item you can be charged if the value is lower than that. Particularly if you have an idiot seller who includes postage costs in the total they declare on the outside. (though to balance it out, I've had some nice surprises when an item I was expecting to come with a customs charge got delivered without).

All the same - and I hope this will make you feel better about it - £13 extra is pretty good for an item of that value. Royal Mail charge something like an £8 handling fee regardless of the cost of the item, and then the import charges on top of that start at about £3. So you're not too far above the same as you'd be charged for an item with a value of £16.

Fronts and backs of M Squad and Petrocelli all-in-ones (mind the $75.99 price tag in the top-right-hand corner of the back cover of the M Squad all-in-one; I got it for far less through Amazon Marketplace)

Thank GOD for youtube. My younger brother and I were trying to explain this show to his daughters and they honestly believed we were trippin', until I showed them the opening credits. The laughter stemming from my house that day must have had the neighbors questioning if we were all smoking something.

I'm guilty also of doing that (paying good money) for what didn't click with me-- Miami Vice, Charlie's Angels, et al.; don't know why, but they just didn't click.

I hope you'll start a Watching Hotel thread. Not necessarily to describe every episode, but the things you like (or hate), favourite guest stars etc.

I doubt I will start watching right away. I have nuDynasty, and Sons & Daughters and Dark Shadows on the go, and I don't even post that much about those or get to see them as often as I would like. I need more time on my hands.

Oops! Turns out it wasn't even my Hotel boxset that I was charged import fees on. It was something I had ordered from the US and forgot about. Still waiting on Hotel.

Hope you get it soon!

Two more of mine: Airwolf from Mill Creek, and the Perry Mason movies (all-in-one of all 30 of them) from CBS...
