Why wasn't Sly at JR's memorial?

Given the TV movies weren't canon at this point, it was quite jarring that Sly was missing from 'JR's Masterpiece'.

Was any effort made to persuade Deborah to return for the episode I wonder?
That is a good question.
NuDallas didn't utilize many characters from the original series that could have had an impact on the stories.
Too bad another network did not pick up the series.

I remember reading an interview back then that Deborah Rennard was asked to participate but that due to scheduling conflicts it didn't work out. I can't find a source (anymore) though.

It would have been great to have her but they probably wouldn't have given her more lines than Deborah Shelton or Cathy Podewell.

In my ideal world, not Bum but Sly should have made that final service to JR. It would have been a nice nod to this years-long relationship without altering the initial story.

But well there are plenty other options which have not materialized:
-Dusty for SueEllen/JohnRoss
- Aunt Katherine for Christopher/Rebecca
- Uncle Mitch for Rebecca
and the list goes on.

Sly not being there was very unfortunate. I was actually looking forward to her being there more than just about anyone else. Always liked their friendship and how he didn’t fire her in season 7 DVD after she betrayed him. A rare display of compassion from J.R. that season but of course he used the situation to his advantage true to form. Even when he did fire her in those later years he brought her back, and that was even after she admitted to trying to hurt him while they were briefly estranged. J.R. needed Sly and I think he always knew that. They made a great team.

If it was about ex-wives and mistresses, Marilee Stone should have been present too. And, if available, I would have loved Serena to attend the funeral. But who remembers Serena, except us, die hard fans... ?

But...

Wait a minute...

Who remembers Cally, except us, die hard fans... ?
With all of J.R.’s ex-wives, lovers, mistresses, conquests, etc. there together at the same time they should’ve all been pallbearers. I think it was a missed opportunity.

Just another missed opportunity not having Sly there and also Marilee Stone. However the biggest mystery is why Sue Ellen never looked over Cally's shoulder scouting for JR's other son.

Does anybody know Cally had a child, except JR... ? She didn't even mention him/her at the funeral...
Anyway, I don't think the Cidre team remembered the fact. They obviously had long forgotten James too (But who cares about Granny Beaumont's bastard ?)

I mean, James knew for sure. But Cider forgot all about him too.

Hypothetically, if no one else knew of this child’s existence other than J.R., James and Cally then they should’ve had him/her showing up after J.R.’s death looking for a piece of the Ewing fortune. It would’ve been totally unexpected to John Ross and Christopher and could’ve ended up being a huge mess for everyone.

It would have been earth-shattering if both Lucas and Cally's son both turned up at JR's Memorial to cause mischief. What TNT Dallas required was more Ewing's clamouring for those millions. If my maths is correct, at the time of JR's Memorial (2013) Lucas would have been 26 and Cally's son 22. Ewing versus Ewing. Game on.

I don't remember "it" as a male heir... Cally's baby could have been this "daughter" John Ross was up to meet. But of course Cidre hardly gave a duck about legacy characters. She was too busy playing Doctor Frankenstein, creating her own creatures. I wonder where she found corpses to bring the Ramoses to life ?

I'm pretty sure it was established that the baby was male but how about a transgender storyline? Or Margaret Krebs could have shown up to make a claim as well.

I believe she is on record as stating the mother of said daughter was long dead or someone we didn't know. The writers of TNT Dallas had Bobby kill off Katherine mid-sentence so I was kind of hoping this where the long lost daughter of JR could have sprung from. In my continuation I wouldn't bother when there is Lucas, child of Cally and as...
Or Margaret Krebs could have shown up to make a claim as well.

"Duck" is the key word here. Probably in the fourth season she would have made up this plot for Bobby...

In my latest reviewing I think they said specifically the word "son" about Cally´s baby. Anyway, I didn´t give a damn in my fanfic and introduced Cally & JR´s offspring as a girl called Ellie...

Please welcome JR´s unknown daughter...

Too many families no one cared about and not enough Ewings. The drama needed to come from all the Ewing offspring coming out of the woodwork to claim what they felt was rightfully theirs.
