Question. If it was real wouldn't the police be waiting outside to charge Will Smith with assault? The Oscars is currently being ridiculed here in Australia by mainstream media. Apparently a minutes silence was held for the country of Ukraine without actually mentioning what the minutes silence was for. The 3 hosts are being torn to shreds because 10 minutes into the ceremony and they've turned the awards ceremony into an opportunity to ridicule the Republican Party. Regardless of your political beliefs why is the academy allowing this to happen. Have they not learnt from the disastrous ratings over the last few years? It's little wonder few care about what was once a prestigious event.

In 2022 Hollywood, being slapped by Will Smith is a prestige event.
The real disaster of the night was the "In Memoriam" segment during which the dead were once again upstaged by the living.

Feels like Nipplegate 2.0: everyone is talking about the unexpected, but it was intentional.
Staged or not, the loser is definitely the Oscar. One minute is reserved for peace in Ukraine, the next minute violence in the auditorium is tolerated. That, and the standing ovation given to Will Smith after the incident, shows the hypocrisy of Hollywood.

I agree. I once use to look forward to watching the Oscars and seeing if an actor would win an award for a well deserved movie I had seen the previous 12 months. To be honest I didn't even know it was on until this incident. I will never be watching it again.

I'm not sure it was staged because neither Will Smith or Chris Rock come out of the incident looking good. Mr Smith looked like he has an uncontrollable temper and damaged his nice guy reputation and Mr Rock looked nasty and weak. The incident also totally overshadowed Will Smith's victory which otherwise would have been one of the main talking points.

Didn't watch it, but I'm not surprised at the woke political stance.
Again, Hollywood has no clue about the lives of most Americans.
Energy Prices and Grocery prices are way up, the worst inflation rates in 41 years, violent crime is rising, the southern border is a total disaster,
our allies don't trust us and our enemies do not fear us, China is rising, Taiwan's security is in peril, Russia has invaded the Ukraine,
Law abiding citizens who oppose CRT are being targeted, anyone who disagrees with those currently in power is demonized in the worst possible way...
(in an assault on all our basic freedoms)... and that is just a sample of the mess.
And the response of three individuals (Hosting? LOL) is to mock the party that does not control the Executive Branch, the Congress or the Senate!?
Considering the decline in Box Offices and viewership, along with the contempt people feel about rich celebrities who are
trying to force feed their woke views onto the public, it is not only disgusting, despicable and nauseating, but also
laughable and pathetic that these self important snobbish buffoons can think that they represent anything other than their own

Don't care if it was staged or not, that joke he made about Jada's hair was downright mean. Like her or not. You don't go making fun of someone, calling her G.I. Jane, when she's been open and honest with her illness that causes her to lose her hair. That's a foul joke. Whoever came up with it should be ashamed. It's the Oscars, not a roast.

I get the instinct to assume anything coming out of Hollywood is a self-serving publicity stunt, but I don't think anyone involved is a good enough actor to pull off the sheer awkwardness of this moment. Or that Smith, who has been fairly canny about this career, would do something to so sourly upstage the pinnacle moment of his life as an actor. No one is talking about him winning an Oscar or his performance, only that he should be arrested for assault.

Once they started cussin', it became obvious that it wasn't scripted -- although the Oscars needed something to upstage the Beatty/Dunaway Best Picture gaffe from a couple of years ago. So this was a nice stab at it.
But every time Patricia Arquette gets up and gives an accusatory speech about saving the underpaid whales (which isn't even true) the ratings drop another 10 points.
It's hard for an objective viewer to feel too much sympathy for the Fresh Prince, however, given that Will and Jada share every imaginable detail of their personal lives with the public -- to the point that it feels like unbridled narcissism. And yet he's gonna slap Rock for making a semi-tasteless joke?... Which just feels like even more narcissism...

Once upon a time I used to love watching the Oscars, seeing TRUE stars - people from the Golden age of Hollywood
now its just a leftist, woke political Love fest and I havent a clue who half the people are or the films they appear in
Thats why I like Ricky Gervais as compere who takes the P out of everyone - he says it as it is and what people think at home
And "actors/actresses" who are grossly over paid and underworked have no idea what its like to live in the real world, as they inhabit a pampered and preened life totally detached from reality and as @Snarky Oracle says the Smiths share every detail on social media
