Crap series. Aside from being a bastardization of Laura Ingalls Wilder's classic book series, it's a maudlin, nauseatingly manipulative program catering to Michael Landon's ego and his ego alone.
During the later seasons of BONANZA, Landon showed he had some legit talent as a writer-director, but with LITTLE HOUSE (a show he controlled completely) the end result was just kind of sick, a blur of dishonest characters showing dishonest emotions in dishonest stories with dishonest morals. With yet another child getting shamed-dunked from bed-wetting Landon every other episode.
And Landon shamelessly tearing up in every scene for 9 years, even when it didn't make any sense. And poor Karen Grassle, a very fine actress, was given zilch to do for the entire run of the show.
So when some critics wondered at the "morbid" tone of the final episode in which they blew up Walnut Grove, I was, like, "Gee, have you not been watching this perverse show for the last decade?"
At least the camerawork and David Rose's music score were pleasant.
