The show has been really enjoyable recently, though Victoria is almost comically uptight, and the Ashley-Phyllis feud could use some additional depth.

Whoa. Daniel Goddard is actually acting. Unbelievable. This must be the best story he's ever gotten. Even Lily was good.

Marla Adams is so wonderful. Watching her be fearful and tearing up is heartbreaking.

What what what?!? Does no one at CBS understand that their method of slooooowwwwww storytelling is what the show was built upon? Though the writers have shot themselves in the foot somewhat by having the thoroughly-unlikable Hillary front and center in every plot.

From the very beginning, the story of their mutual departure has been "they've decided to retire from soap writing". Um, really? I might believe if one of them announced they'd changed their mind and wanted to retire (after being hired only a few months ago), but both of them? After DECADES in soaps? My guess is that either CBS or the EP Mal Young gave them so much interference that they decided to quit--but CBS made them stick to this "mutual retirement" story in order to keep their (likely hefty) severance package. CBS knows the fans would be livid if they knew CBS and/or Young had run off the best possible writers the show could have (short of digging up Bill Bell).

I highly, highly doubt this Mal Young guy will be able to juggle EP duties AND Head-Writing the show. He'll have to bring in someone (or several someones) to share the work.

It does seem like most of the stories are rudderless lately: Victor disowns Nick and then plots against him; Nick doesn't want Sharon but doesn't want her with Scott; Abby and Scott hate each other but have to work together; Devon doesn't want Hillary but doesn't want anyone to insult her; Mariah may or may not like men; Dina spends most of her time trapped within the walls of the Athletic Club; and Cane is responsible for everything short of global warming.

The stories have been showing some actual movement lately, which is good, but GC Buzz has become this era's Restless Style, and that is not a good thing. Hillary needs to go the way of David Kimble, particularly if a shredder is involved.

Depends on your expectations. Y&R is known for much slower storytelling, but generally the acting is better, and it has a lot of its long-term cast intact. If you are looking for a new one to watch, though, it would get my vote. I have been watching it off and on since I was old enough to focus my eyes on a TV screen :)

During their endless feuding, did Jill and Katherine ever lay an ounce of blame at the feet of Philip? Infidelity does take two people.

In Katherine's final years, they completely retconned the story. Jill said that Philip's death was an "accident"

Online scuttlebutt indicates we might get some classic episodes beginning Monday, as CBS may have already run through their supply. Perhaps Katherine's puzzle photo of Jack and Jill, or perhaps the women going at it in the attic

Nothing with Phick, please :eck::fp::censer:

Thursday' episodes will be the last original episodes of both Y&R and B&B.

Y&R has decided to go with theme weeks. They will feature actors doing wrap-arounds and/or commentary for the episodes. The first one is aptly called Katherine The Great and if I didn't have to work, I'd be tuning in to see some of Kay's greatest hits. Unfortunately it sounds like the furthest back they will go, however, is 1990.

This would be a good time to revive the radio soaps (and they could release the episodes on CD)

What a treat to see Jeanne Cooper again. And Michael Damian I like more as a singer than an actor

is anybody still watching Y&R?

I used to watch all US daytime soaps, but I didn't miss CBS soaps a bit when they were on their break. Since they are back I'm kind of over them, but still hoping it will change, but the longer I feel this bored the more I doubt I will enjoy it ever again. Y&R lost many viewers compared to last year, so I just hope they get a new head writer soon, maybe then storytelling could improve, but right now, what is there to talk about?

Adam's drama is boring, Billy's drama is boring. Where's Cane? He could come home after Colin was caught, but he's not even mentioned. Current Abby is boring since day 1, I don't understand why they don't recast her and even more: why is she always fronburner? I had hope in Sally Spectra, I like her here more than in her final months on B&B but until now she's underused. It was nice having Nina and Jill back but it's always the same: nice for one or two episodes, but then nothings happens.

I will admit that I’m still watching. The show is a shell of what it once was and I mostly watch for the older, more established characters, such as Nikki, Victor, Jack. Ashley, Nick, Sharon, etc. But I do find myself getting bored with it very quickly, I’ll watch for awhile then take some time off, and then I’ll come back. I’ve been watching for so many years that I’ll probably never leave totally. One thing I’ll say about Y&R is for all their faults they do a good job of paying homage to their history, which is very long and storied. Without that part of it I probably couldn’t watch

I like that Victor & Nikki are solid now, no more on and offs. I also enjoy Victoria becoming more than her father, but involving her with Phyllis was another let-down. In that "quadrangle of color" I only like Nate, because for a while I thought he would become a bad guy, but again: another let-down.

Right now I'm looking forward to Eva LaRue's return visit, but Sharon & Rey are kind of couple like Sharon & Dylan: it will be forgotten in a few years.
