Everyone is affected by Covid. Yes for the most part younger people seem to deal better with it. However, the virus will continue to mutate and it will not go away. It will be around forever now like Flu. There could in time be strains that affect the young differently. Most of us are vaccinated in childhood against things like Polio, Hepatitis B, Whooping Cough, Tetanus, Diphtheria, Meningitis C and B, Mumps, Measles, Rubella, PCV, Rota virus and HIB. In adulthood there is the Flu vaccine. If you travel, especially to the tropics there are other vaccines and immunisations that are required. Eventually Covid vaccines could be required for all. Certain jobs and professions could even require you to have it.

The virus was spread globally in a very short matter of time due to travel. This could happen again seasonally unless something was done to curtail the spread of the virus. If most of the elderly and vulnerable are vaccinated that lowers that possibility. However, younger travellers who are not vaccinated and who think themselves not at risk could potentially spark new variants of the virus and cause all kinds of havoc all over again, just as we think we could be finding our way out of this. If a vaccine is there, and is shown to work, why would you not take it? If it means having a card that says you are free to travel because you have been vaccinated then why not? Or of course we could continue to live in an isolated world with limited contact and limited travel.

I have taken the vaccine and lived to tell the tale, and I will take that card/passport too.

An international vaccine passport is a different matter, nothing we can do about what other countries rules say that’s always been the case, when I decide to go to a different country I’ll take it, but for now I feel I don’t need it, I’m not going abroad anytime soon.

It’s worth noting that some countries only require a negative test result, so it’ll be interesting seeing what countries have a boost in tourism in the coming years.

Im talking about a passport to everyday things which shouldn’t happen, it should be a choice, you shouldn’t have to get a vaccine to buy milk or a loaf of bread, or to see a loved one, or to have a quick pint or to work.

A domestic vaccine passport is knee jerk reaction to a virus which will become much like the cold and flu, and a pathway to something we really don’t want.

I hoped we had learned from the past but it looks we haven’t.

If enough people don't have the vaccine the economy can't open up fully. We need to encourage everyone to be vaccinated then there will be no need for passports.

There will be passports, don’t be so naive to think there won’t be either.

If the younger generation don’t take the vaccine and are therefore barred from work and society then the economy won’t recover anyway

The economy is in the toilet, the government know this, nothing will prevent the coming recession set to hit us harder than the one in 2008, three lockdowns, endless restrictions cost billions, High Street stores are already closing down branches.

But you are speaking as if it's already established that young people wont take the vaccine. I think anyone with any common sense who wants a return to normalcy will take the vaccine. It can only do them good, in all ways.

Absolutely correct! Most under 35s are keen to be vaccinated because they want life to get back to normal as soon as possible.

And that’s their choice and I support that, but I also know of many under 35’s who don’t want the vaccine either, and they shouldn’t be blackmailed or coerced into having one either.
The majority of sane, educated people will have the vaccine. You are using hyperbole. The only people who wont would be those with religious reasons which is fair enough, faith often flies in the face of logic. You have to respect that. And those conspiracy theorists you've mentioned. Again fair enough, logic doesn't apply.
Funnily enough these under 35's of which you speak have no qualms with their parents having them vaccinated against their knowledge against about 16 deadly viruses and illnesses that allowed them to progress to adulthood.

I think honestly you are finding issue where there isn't one.

So you don’t think it’s an issue that a government can Say “take the vaccine or You’ll never get your life back” ?

A child under a certain age is under a parents control it’s not a real comparison, of Covid was deadly for everyone in the population with a much higher death rate then this would be reasonable but it’s not, if as you say there are people in their droves getting the vaccine then a few who aren’t shouldn’t warrant such harsh measure should it?

I don’t think it’s hyperbolic to worry about fascism coming through the backdoor under guise of “caring”

I haven’t mentioned any conspiracy theorists I don’t buy into them

An opinion poll last year showed that78% of 18-34 year olds wanted to be vaccinated. This was before the vaccine roll out started so it is likely to be higher now that so many millions worldwide have received the vaccine safely and overall confidence in the vaccines have increased. It's only a vey small percentage of young people that don't want to be vaccinated. An overwhelming majority of people support the introduction of vaccine passports.

So you don’t think it’s an issue that a government can Say “take the vaccine or You’ll never get your life back” ?
But the government aren't forcing anyone to be vaccinated. However, that's not a bad slogan, it's better than "Stay alert, control the virus, save lives".

People who don't want to be vaccinated shouldn't be forced nor are they. They need to be educated about the benefits of the vaccines and have their fears allayed.

No maybe not the government but they certainly won’t stop businesses from firing or not hiring unvaccinated people either, which coercion.

Polls aren’t exactly reliable nor representation of all 65 million of us on the U.K.

I for one am educated enough to know that I don’t need a vaccine for a virus that will at most give me the sniffles, loss of taste or smell and a temperature for a few days, I’m not scared of vaccines.

This whole fascism thing is nonsense. Nobody will force you to get the vaccine. That is up to you, but as more and more do, and things become normal then children and young adults will be vaccinated too, and on and on it goes. It something we have to live with, and the only way to live with Covid is for as many of us to be vaccinated as possible. The world is different now, what is the point in some people being vaccinated and some not? That allows the virus to spread and restrictions to be held. Nobody wants that.

As for this guise of "caring" you clearly don't care yourself. Or you'd want vaccinated, not only would it help you but it would protect others by reducing the rate of transmission. If you are vaccinated you still contract the virus, however you are less likely to become sick and less likely to spread it. The vaccine will make your immune system get the better of it before it has a chance to take hold, before you develop that persistent cough that spreads, and other nasties.

Why would anyone want to travel without it? You could be 25 and fine, have minor or no symptoms and bring the virus with you to another country and pass it on and on. And even if they make you have a test before you go, and on returning you'd have to pay for that. Even still you could be required to quarantine after your trip. A vaccine would negate all of that.

I can't even believe I am having to say all of this.

I love how you make assumptions about me just because I have a different opinion, you make out that I don’t care, who are you to get on your high horse and judge me!
I have complied with the rules, even thought like many others it has cost me my job, flat and mental health, me not wanting the vaccine doesn’t make me an anti vaxxer or uncaring, I could say you’re selfish for wanting people denied their basic rights for not wanting a jab they don’t need just to allay your own fears.

I am healthy, I trust my immune system, I would get a vaccine for yellow fever, measles what have you, but since there is high survival rate for young people I’ll take my chances, I’m not going abroad for now so I’ll cross that bridge.

I can’t believe I have to repeat myself again and say that I understand the need for an international vaccine passport either you’ve missed that point or you’ve deliberately ignored me to suit your view of me

I have nursed and cared for people who have died of Covid. I have had to put them into coffins myself as the funeral directors were not allowed to enter the premises. I have seen young and old die from Covid. Even though there is a high chance of survival for young people they can still have to be hospitalised, taking up beds and resources. A vaccine stops all of that. It's free. It's wise. I am not judging you. I am informing you, based on experience. Being vaccinated is the only way out of this.

I have complied with the rules, even thought like many others it has cost me my job, flat and mental health, me not wanting the vaccine doesn’t make me an anti vaxxer or uncaring
I was out of work for 6 months last year. For 4 of them I was house bound. I couldn't see family or friends, I almost lost my mind, I would have chewed threw a brick wall in order to get a vaccine. As soon as it was available I had it. You not wanting it does make you an anti vaxxer, you are anti this vaccine, you do not want it yourself.
I could say you’re selfish for wanting people denied their basic rights for not wanting a jab they don’t need just to allay your own fears.
But that is ludicrous. You would happily go on potentially spreading a virus and wanting to go on with restrictions just to prove the point that you don't have to do what the man says. You could say I am selfish, but it would be as silly as the point you are trying to prove.

I am healthy, I trust my immune system, I would get a vaccine for yellow fever, measles what have you, but since there is high survival rate for young people I’ll take my chances, I’m not going abroad for now so I’ll cross that bridge.
How lucky you are, to have such trust in your immune system. Something you have absolutely no control over, and something that millions of people find something wrong with every day. You're Immune system is seemingly fine. At the moment.

Get off your high horse for crying out loud and stop with your assumptions! Not wanting this vaccine does not make me anti vax at all, that’s just you being utterly judgemental and making wild assumptions!

If you can’t discuss without labelling me as something I have stated several that I’m not then I strongly suggest you leave this thread!

You may want to read what i said previously regarding what I would do if I was planning to go abroad in the future, if I was anti vax I wouldn’t even do that.

Or you could carry on sneering

Ultimately customers will decide. If one company insists their staff is vaccinated and another one doesn't, I guarantee you that customers will prefer to go to the business that have the vaccinated staff. Vaccinating people will save jobs not lose them.

I agree polls aren't accurate but they provide some support for for what I'm saying that young people want to be vaccinated. You are suggesting that young people don't but provide absolutely no evidence for that opinion.

You might be a lucky person and never get Covid. You might be lucky and get Covid but have no or mild symptom. However, you might be unlucky, like many other young people, and get a severe case of Covid and be hospitalised or worse. You could be unlucky get long Covid which is very common in young people which could mean chronic fatigue for months or even years, damage to your internal organs and possibly even an increased chance of developing dementia. Being vaccinated means not playing Russian roulette with your health and as importantly, not playing Russian roulette with the health of the people around you.

The only way down from my high horse is step on your nonsense. Of course you are an anti vaxxer, if you are anti this vaccine that the global population needs then that is what you are. If you can not see that, I do not know what you can see.

Now, must go. I have a bit more sneering to do before bed.

You see what you want to see because it gives you a moral sense of superiority, so I’ll let you have that.

You clearly do not have a good understanding of the English language or else you would see that I’m far from being an anti vaxxer I just don’t believe in forcing people to take a vaccine they don’t need, Yellow Fever you need a vaccine for, MMR a vaccine, heck if there was a cancer vaccine to stop me from getting any cancer I would take it because I have a history of cancer in my family and I had dormant growth of cancer

Some people don’t feel the need to boast or label people they just roll their sleeves up and keep on keeping on

If you think I was boasting in my posts, you are sorely wrong. There is nothing boastful in what I shared, in fact it's quite regrettable.

And there wasn’t anything uncaring or anti vaccine in what I said but you’ll still label me with that and you assume that I don’t care about anyone and I don’t appreciate it,
