Tea With Mussolini (1999)

A spontaneous one and I went in knowing very little about it. Which is obviously good since I thoroughly enjoyed it. The cast was superb and the Florence setting very beautiful. Plus there were shades of Tenko at times.

Radium Girls, again-- we have Netflix on DISH satellite now, and I was able to see it better that way (when I had purchased it on that online screening site, it was an ordeal getting it to play).

The Story of Louis Pasteur (1936)

I've not seen this film for 30 years so I was keen to re-watch it, especially as it stars Paul Muni who is one of my all time favour actors. This is not just a good biopic but also a history and science lesson. Paul Muni is great in this, he has such a strong screen presence that you almost forget that anyone else is in the film even though the supporting cast is good too.

JFK (1991)

It's only taken me three decades to get around to watching it. Naturally I've now lined up a number of documentaries that were suggested after watching.

I'd considered watching it over two evenings, but once the exposition started being fed it was fated that I had to watch in one sitting. Otherwise I'd never pick up the strands again. Fortunately I only had to pee once, but I did also break my own no-eating-during-the-film rule as I feared I'd waste away if I waited until it ended.

One of my all time favorite films! I can’t count how many times I’ve seen it. No matter what anyone believes about that whole story or what their opinion is on what happened, it’s definitely worth seeing.

It's an incredibly well-made film. It looks gorgeous and some of the dialogue is impressive.

Absolutely. The fact that there are so many theories and unknowns is what makes it resonate, fascinate and titillate.

And why does that rule exist?

The idea is to be "present": to give my full attention and not miss anything. And to allow myself to be more easily manipulated into feeling whatever the film is trying to make me feel (it's really difficult to get emotional if one is eating). And because I find rustling and crunching - even my own - distracting when watching a film.

I tend to save the rule for more serious or poignant films and shows. Or those which seem likely to benefit from getting the full attention.

(In short, it's because I'm a bit of a control freak.)
