Season 8 - Swan Song

What would happen if at the end of Season 8 Katherine actually did hit Pam and she died? Katherine survives and is hospitalized. How do you think that would have affected Season 9? Christopher gets half control of Barnes Wentworth and Bobby nominates Donna (again) to look after his interests. Mark Graison returns to mourn Pam. Sue Ellen still works for him and they fall in love. Jr and Sue Ellen get divorced, he marries Mandy. He starts cheating again and Mandy turns to drugs.

Katherine escapes from the hospital and gets plastic surgery and undertakes a new identity Anjelica Nero...

Mandy was a character I couldn't stand. I would actually like her doing drugs, but marrying JR? I don't think so!

I would've hated that if Katherine had killed Pam.

It was never going to happen that way anyway as the whole point of Katherine's return was to give Patrick Duffy his departure from the show.

Still very dramatic scenes though. I bawled my eyes out on the original showing. :)

Sure! I say go for it!

What they could do is:
  • Edit the original tapes and reshoot some scenes from season 8 through the last season.
  • Perform plastic surgery to people who closely resembled the original cast and match them exactly then reshoot the proper scenes, to the end if necessary.
  • Gather up all the people who ever watched Dallas and brain wash them so they totally forgot season 8 and beyond.
  • Re-run the new version on TV on Friday nights to this entirely new audience !! WoW This could actually work!! !! :eck:

As far as I know, Charlene Tilton was fired before Patrick Duffy informed the producers he was leaving Dallas. Although it didn't look good that two original cast members were leaving the show at the same time, the decision was made that Charlene still had to go because Lucy's exit was already written. But what was actually intended as the cliffhanger if Patrick Duffy had stayed? And was Jack only introduced at the end of season 8 because Bobby was going to die, or was his introduction planned all along?

Nah, in 2 or max 3 years from now you can easily redo not only episodes, but whole seasons of Dallas with AI by yourself and noone will be able to tell the difference anymore.
Just prompt to the AI what you wanna have as a video and after a few minutes you will get the result to download and share.
No need for similar looking people or plastic surgery or such effort.

For the gun lovers - here's a completly AI generated video of some cat shooting a gun. All AI, the cat, the gun, the woman, the neighbourhood, none of that is real.
That's how far AI already is. ;)

Sadly, yes. Reece Witherspoon is encouraging Hollywood to embrace A.I., despite its reluctance, because that's how movies will be made in the future, like it or not. (But she's evil in her own right).

That technology is now so advanced, it will just render Hollywood product even more irrelevant than it's already become.

One shudders about what could become of Hollywood classics, how altered they could be (by your 4-year-old niece!) But when you think about replacing Donna Reed's head and voice with BBG's, correcting the dream scenario, and adjusting the final three years of DALLAS --- or undoing the re-casting of all the grown Carrington children, and bringing down the pitch of Krystle's voice to its original levels -- the Dark Side starts to seduce and take over.

And that can be a problem.

The "Dark Side"?!

Yeah well ... times change. Back in the day people were afraid of cars and used to say that cars are pure evil and bad and that horses are the only good way to go from A to B ...

Technology has changed the way we live completly so many times already.
It's NEVER the technology, that is evil. It's ALWAYS bad people misusing it for the wrong purpose.

If one day robots will kill all humans, it's not because they are evil, but because of what they learned from US.
Therefore i'm never afraid of new technology changing the way we live. The only real threat mankind has, is mankind itself.

Wel.... of course.

That's why the Ancients viewed the improvements in technology (before there even was very much) as a curse on humankind. Because the evilest of humans will always control that technology to enhance their power over the population at large.

I can answer some of the questions (take it with a grain of salt though). Starting with Jack, he was mentioned in Jamie´s first full episode. You hint something, you have to feature it in the future, a rule for most supersoaps (with "Dynasty´s" exception). They were very tentative with Jack´s personality in the beginning: when he reunites with Jamie, he´s cearly a hustler. The problem is that Jamie had turned out to be almost a goody-goody, and her opinion about Jack might have been a product of her moral code, a bit à la early Pam.

I think that what Capice (and partly Katzman before leaving) had prepared for the future "Dream Season" was a bit different from what we got. I highly doubt that Jack was going to be a substitute for Bobby, rather than another cowboy in the Ewing family, and a pawn in the Angelica storyline. Probably his affair with Jenna was going to be that, an affair, and not the one-sided attraction to Jenna that we saw. We might add the aids-scare caused by Rock Hudson´s participation on "Dynasty".

"By the way Jack, do you like emeralds?"

I´m not sure if Charlene was fired before Patrick decided to leave, but I don´t think so. What I´d say was decided no matter what was the final reunion of Bobby and Pam, and Katherine´s return to stir up trouble, following the pattern of Kristin in her last year. There was a rumor that is somewhat confirmed by Lucy´s Hot Biscuit saga: Lucy starts the season hysterically complaining about her horrible family where "nobody cares about anybody." She often repeats that she isn´t interested in rich people´s lifestyle anymore ("Ha!", Miss Piggy comments).

"Please don´t let me goooo....!"

What the rumor said was Season 8 would continue the waitress Lucy story with her meeting a cult who shared with her that newly found hatred towards the rich. They turned her crazy and she let them entry the property during an event (a wedding?). Then would follow what you might guess: a massacre that decimates the family. Funnily enough, the week prior to "Swan Song" that other massacre had happened on "Dynasty", which makes the whole theory rather unlikely. Another source (capsule synopses) hinted a "tragedy in the aftermath of Lucy´s wedding, with a fast car heading towards the family Ewing (this sounds a lot like Sydney´s "apparent" death in the Season 5 finale of "Melrose Place").

Patrick had asked for certain things regarding his departure, so I don´t think it was a last minute plot for the finale. All cast had signed a 7-year contract in the beginning, hence Charlene was easily axed when they couldn´t get a decent story for her. Victoria stated that she noticed the show in Season 6 that she would leave two years later. I´m sure that the news of Patrick leaving and Bobby dying were decisive for her to renew her contract for two more "final" years, since the latter would give Victoria more chances to shine as an actress.

That year was a turmoil for the producers also for the Donna Reed fiasco, BBG knocking on the door, and Linda Gray being fired for asking to direct one episode. If it hadn´t been for Larry, maybe our sweet Sue Ellen would have ended at the "Rock Bottom Alley". It was a hell of a season for the "Dallas" honchos, all in all, with the show being surpassed (allegedly) by ·Dynasty", and then it became worse when they replaced "Ugly Baby" with Joshua Harris. No more "eggs and toast (beech)"...

They should have made Lucy pregnant with Mickey's child. It would have given the Lucy character a boost in terms of storylines instead of her largely hitting a dead end.
Great idea! I always wanted to see Mitch loosen up a bit, he was such a boring moral grandstander. A gambler would have given him some balls and come crawling to JR for help when he blows his money with bad people.

Mitch should have been the one to reconstruct Pam´s face. And he goes and makes her one without a mouth, so she can´t whine all the time! JR´s idea! Poor poor Pam!

When I read Margaret Michaels had been cast to play Pam # 2, I thought she would be back for the whole season (if not the whole series) and I found logical that Mitch should have taken care of her. Lucy being back, I strongly thought Mitch would follow his wife, escorting Pam to Dallas.
Well he did eventually came back, but for a last pointless stunt and without Pam...
