That one, essential TV series that's on your MUST-watch list?

I don't mean a whole list of titles that you plan to watch, it's about that one particular show that you need in order to complete your personal TV pop culture.

For me, it's DOCTOR WHO, that's the missing piece in my essential TV experience.

For me it’s Dynasty. I haven’t seen very much of it since it went off the air in 1989 other than the occasional clips. I would love to own it and do a complete rewatch now and see how I feel about the show over 30 years later.

That's a noble goal if you're the fan of it (I take it you are; I may be incorrect); just checked Amazon, and the quote is insane ($150 for the all-in-one).

If you're just talking having some of it, however, the prices are much lower (the omnibus of the first four gos goes for only $25); if you get it now, you can possibly have it for the 41st anniversary (yes, O-R ABC Dynasty is about to be as old as I am).

And another thing: that $150 is for a new copy, it seems; if you want to get a used one, you could possibly pay $20 less (of course, to me, it doesn't matter which way you do it).

I am huge Doctor Who Fan 1963-2017. Unfortunately, the changes since then have turned the show into something unrecognizable, farcical
and disgraceful.
I would like to go into more detail at another time.
Suffice it say the ratings are at record lows, merchandise sales have similarly dropped, and longtime fans such as myself feel offended and alienated
(no pun intended) by the post Capaldi era.
Hopefully Russell T Davies return can "regenerate" the show.

To be honest, I'm only interested in the 60s to 90s stories (but maybe I'd want to see more after that).

Most of it is available on DVD (I don't have a bluray player) but it's a story here, a compilation/omnibus there, complete Doctor boxsets that are actually NOT complete at all, the stories are numbered, the years are numbered, the seasons are numbered - in other words; the "home cinema" release of Doctor Who is a giant mess.

The most logical thing to do would be a separate, complete box set for each doctor (or as complete as possible) but for some mysterious reason that perfect idea has never occured to them.
Maybe this would be a good job for the Australians, they love their mammoth DVD box sets.

Sounds like you are a fan of the classic series - Cool! 26 seasons of a well-loved series.
I thought that there were box sets for each individual doctor, but maybe not.
Sadly, some of the old black and white shows (1963-69) are missing, including some of the best loved episodes.

My older brother watched it back in the 1970s and I must have joined him a few times (or at least once) because that's when I heard the famous/infamous intro tune.

The latest releases (bluray) are "seasons" collection. I don't think there were any seasons because at that time "season TV" only applied to American series (afaik).
Of course the only thing that matters is to get the stories (what's left of it) on DVD or bluray in chronological order and what they put on the box isn't really that important.
But 10 hours per set isn't that much, imo.

They must love those things Down Under-- whenever I've researched one of those series from over there, I've seen that it almost always costs a pretty penny.

Now have a new one, most essential series that I'm looking forward to finishing (in the third go of it on DVD, and enjoying every minute): Emergency! (that 1972-77 NBC medical/action series w/Robert Fuller, Bobby Troup, Kevin Tighe, Randolph Mantooth, et al.); it's one show that is never dull, because the firemen/paramedics are always called on to handle some kind of rescue, and the doctors and nurses are equally called on to handle any necessary hospital treatment.

Well as much as I love Dallas it would have to be Doctor Who for me.

I bought the VHS cassettes, then I bought the DVDs and now I have all the collection boxsets (to date), which are absolutely fantastic value for the amount of old and new material on them.

I grew up with the Pertwee era but consider both him and Tom as my Doctor, both were at the top of their game in the role. I also loved Davison but really didn't like Colin or Sylvester and still have issues when watching their stories. I've seen all the episodes available from An Unearthly Child through to Survival but it's the Perwee/Baker/Davison seasons I watch the most.

With NuWho I loved Eccleston and wish he'd done more, Tennant and Smith were fantastic too. But I did have issues with Capaldi, I just didn't like his Doctor or the stories, I watched them on broadcast but really didn't enjoy his era. I did adore Missy though.

With Jodie, I absolutely love her and her era, I know many don't but after the Capaldi era I found it fresh, fun and entertaining.

Roll on the next era with RTD's return, I'm very much looking forward to seeing what and who's coming next.

Trouble is the show ended in 2017 after four pretty lousy years!

I don't really have one. Here in Portugal we can still download tons of stuff so if there's something I want to watch then I just do LOL. Maybe, possibly VP in Titans, never saw that.
