My favourite this week is the Oasis-esque song Brand New Life by Sjöblom
That is Oasis-like. The Agent Side Grinder Remix, which I just accidentally downloaded to add to my playlist, might be even better.

Does that make me think of AIR? I'm a sucker for robot singers.
Augustine by Blood Orange

clickbait! clickbait! I only come here for the ghetto rap and that song is anything but.
James you're very good at discovering these surprising plot twist songs. I was trying to figure out what old song they were sampling but there was no time for that because it became something else and then the alleged sample didn't seem to matter anymore (but if you know what it is...).

Do you mean the bit at the beginning? It isn't on the album version, but I had a look on WhoSampledWho (which I like to think of as the music equivalent of my old Who Called Who What and When threads -- I wish I'd started one on Peyton Place) anyway, and it wasn't listed so maybe it isn't a sample at all.

The jolly little number I've chosen this week is The Turning of Our Bones by Arab Strap

Oh yes I'm sure they're very quotable!
Betty: She must have been a monster!
Steven: Really? She was just a simple part of American aristocracy. Not too bright, very gay, arrogant charm, perfect manners, cold smile, and a will of iron.

Barely Alive by Yola (not to be confused by the Mad Magazine Bee Gees parody from back in the day)

I had no idea what to expect when I heard the first notes, could it be a pseudo-movie score?
It's a very beautiful production and it sounds even more vintage than the original 1970 version by John and Beverley Martyn.
Not that I knew it was them, I simply assumed the original title was Primrose Hill and youtube did the rest.

Important message to tellytalk (the pomp of it!): I will no longer post my favourite jamcovery of the week on Saturday or Sunday.
Is the weekend the beginning or the end of the week, it confuses me and we don't want that.
Therefore I'll post it today instead of tomorrow, whaddaya say, jury?

Thanks!

Yes, Friday just feels like the Song of the Week day. Back in the day, the thinking was you'd watch Top of the Pops on a Thursday, decide what single(s) you wanted to buy in the playground on Friday, and then take your pocket money in your hot little hand down to the record shop on Saturday.
Yuksek Ft. Confidence Man - Gorgeous

The clue is in the title. In fact, it's very gorgeous. This definitely gets a yes from me. And a yes from Prince as well:

Only goes to show how clueless I am because I kept mishearing Y.E.S. as Rock.E.S. in the Prince video.

I don't remember how I spent my pocket money....maybe that's going to be an interesting discovery in itself.

Not so much new discovery, but my amazement at the Rock'n Roll HOF

Dionne Warwick?

She is talented and has enjoyed much success but there is nothing Rock'n Roll about her.

Whose next/ Barry Manilow? Barbara Streisand? Tony Bennett? Sammy Davis Jr? Perry Como?
All successful but not Rock'n Roll

And yet Gordon Lightfoot and Bread, soft rock acts that are not in the HOF, as wells as
Bad Company, Foghat, the Monkees, Free. Badfinger ,Foreigner, Guess Who and so many more.

They should change the name to something like the No consistency Music HOF
