Socrates once said that when a woman is made your equal, she becomes your superior.

What does that mean??

Some say, it means that men exert and are masters at overt power, women exert and are masters at covert power. So if men and women are made equal, their overt power becomes equal, but women still retain their covert power. They thus become the superior of men.

Opinions?

I could be off base here so let me know if I'm interpreting this wrong, but this sounds like it describes a lot of Gen Z girls. I can't stand Tik Tok, but a lot of girls from that platform have made their way to YouTube. Many of their videos consist of telling men how awful they are, followed by a list of demands they must meet in order to "do better."

That's why I find it refreshing when I hear younger women say men and women should support each other. Many women in that generation seem to want to control men. I know there are mature women with similar views, but I hear this far more from the Gen Z crowd. Then again, maybe it's because they're more likely to be on social media.

Case in point, those videos on Youtube are rarely deleted or removed, while MGTOW channels are routinely demonetized and even shut down by moderators of a certain gender and persuasion because they don't "like" the topic.

Harvey Weinstein charged in London

Shame on the Hollywood establishment for their shameless enabling, and incomprehensible claim that they

didn't know.

I have lost all respect for many, many of them, especially Meryl Streep.

She must indeed be giving an Oscar worthy performance when discussing him

Insecure men might think women who are their equal will become their superior however, most will think she is their equal. Also, we still live in a sexist world and many women who attain equal status to men achieve it by being better than their male counterparts.

This is true of some women but it's also true that many men are only too happy to tell you how awful their wife/girlfriend/female work colleagues/women drivers etc. are. Now the tables are beginning to be turned and women now have more of a platform to say how they feel and I think extreme views on gender issues by some women is a direct reaction to the misogyny that women have been on the receiving end of from men for generations. Men generally have always wanted women to behave in a certain way and look a certain way so why should it come as a surprise that some women will have similar demands for their men?

That's why I find it refreshing when I hear younger women say men and women should support each other.

I agree with this and I young people continue to give me hope that future generations will treat each other more respectfully than previous ones did.

It's not just about insecure men, it's also about behavior. There's a difference between a woman who treats you as an equal and a woman who acts like she's better than you.

And while sexism has held some women back, it's also used to disingenuously smear people. Not a fan of Sarah Palin or Kamala Harris for political reasons? You're still sexist.

And women have never had unrealistic expectations of men or treated them badly until now? When I was in school, the majority of the bullying I received was from girls. Most of it was targeted at my appearance because I was chubby and average looking at best. I didn't grow up to believe all women belittle men or treat them poorly because I also knew girls who were kind. I notice when women behave badly, it's usually blamed on men. When men speak out about it, they're treated as either insecure or deserving of it.

I agree with this and I young people continue to give me hope that future generations will treat each other more respectfully than previous ones did.
Well, some of them are respectful at least. Others do nothing but criticize men to the point of misandry.

Yes, and this is proof that some men are indeed monsters and deserving of the vitriol they receive. Of course, nothing is said about the women who looked the other way either.

The problem is some people look at guys like Weinstein and immediately start condescending to men. It's as if they think we're all pre-dispositioned to be like him.

But remember, no one's ever been rude to a white straight male.

Did someone get the wrong fortune cookie?

Men beating up women at a restaurant in China...

I vote: possibly staged.

Totally disgraceful, I hope the men involved in this are severely punished. Sadly, it's all too familiar that women are subject to this kind of male violence not just in China but all over the world.

If it's real it's disgraceful, sure... If so, I wonder what it was about.

Of course, women commit a lot of violence privately, so it's not just dudes.

But there is twice as much male domestic violence against women than female domestic violence against men and also the violence against women is generally more severe, more frequent and has a greater impact. The two are not equivalent.

Stats show that households with mutual partner violence is 50/50; unilateral violence is initiated by the woman 70% of the time (presumably because she knows he won't retaliate); women kill their offspring far more often than men do (even when the father is in the household); and lesbains have the highest domestic violence rate, gay men the lowest, and straight couples in between.

So, as you say, they're not equivalent.

Maybe the situation is different in the USA to the UK because here two thirds of victims of domestic abuse are woman compared with one third being men (source Office of National Statistics March 2020).

Sometimes a graphic can demonstrate the situation far better than words:

Women are overwhelmingly more likely to be the victims of domestic abuse than men. That doesn't mean that violence against men is trivial but it should be viewed in the context of the wider picture.

I've seen videos of women instigating fights with men physically, and then acting like the victim when the man pushes back.

Not the equality they were hoping for, I guess. Society's view of violence has always been lopsided. "You never hit a woman." Does that mean you can hit a man by default?

There is a tendency to view women by the best of female behavior and to view men by the worst of male behavior -- as if we're all Mother Teresa and Ted Bundy with privilege.

Yes, you can hit him by default. That's the point. And you can accuse him falsely by default as well (divorce attorneys often tell their female client to either claim "abuse" or, if she's not comfortable with that, to say, "I'm afraid of him" in order to get the judge to get rid of the husband -- and give her the house and kids -- as quickly as possible, with the alimony and child support to soon follow).

False allegation has always been the way women control men and society, and the idea that we used to ignore her cries of rape and abuse are largely myth. (And, yes, some women are truthful).

I've seen some of those videos, too, where a sometimes-petite woman will be publicly slugging a man dozens of times with no fear of retaliation. And when he finally weakens and slaps her once, she's suddenly frozen with shock -- as if unable to process the fact that he was capable of finally hitting her back -- she pauses... and then starts to cry like a baby.

Repeatedly. Over and over again. Their number is endless, those videos.

Not that abusive women are all cowardly. As I stated in a previous post, 50 percent of the violence in a household of mutual abuse is initiated by the woman, even when she knows burly Bob will smack her back.

You can also find many videos of interviews with young women asking if a man should ever hit a woman, and they all moan disapprovingly, "Noooooo" but when those same girls are asked if a woman should hit a man (and if they ever hit men) most of them break into giggles and say they do, usually adding that he does things to "deserve" it. And many will admit that there's a double standard, also with a giggle and delighted eyes.

Joe Biden was told as a teenager by his parents that it was not only always wrong to hit a woman under any circumstances , but that he should never raise his hands to a woman even if she comes at you with a knife. So apparently, there's a holiness there that can never be questioned.
