Storylines that made no sense.

What are some storylines in the later seasons of Falcon Crest that made no sense in light of what we had learned earlier in the series?

One example is the saga involving Nicole Sauguet and her loan to Chase to help him get his vineyard started. It seems to contradict what we had already been told about Chase's financial situation.

Chase applied for loans from banks in Tuscany and was turned down. His solution was to sell his New York home to raise the money. So if he had access to someone willing to lend him $30 million, why was he struggling to secure financing from banks in the first place?

The financial logic behind this storyline has always seemed questionable to me. Unless I'm forgetting something, or Nicole's loan came at a later point, the whole situation doesn't quite add up.

Was this ever properly explained, or is it just one of those Falcon Crest plot devices that falls apart if you think about the money for more than five minutes?

Both of mine come from the later seasons of the show, but one season we have Frank trying to reconnect with his son and grandson, and the next season, we have him trying to silence Genele Ericson about her killing his ex-wife, and him being an ex tennis star?

I'm not saying these things couldn't all somehow make sense, but it seems almost like a different backstory.. If Nick was roughly 30/35.how old was Genele supposed to be, though? I'd say they weren't too much off in age, so..this couldn't have happened before Nick,. So, he would have had to have married Genele's sister after Nick was born..but they make it out as if him and Genele are talking about something that happened at least 20 years ago..all the old tennis footage with Frank. Genele would have been awfully young still, unless the character was supposed to be older than the actress?

In hindsight, one of the smart moves Falcon Crest made was throwing logic out the window so early in its run. Would organized crime really operate the way the Cartel did? And is Julia really such a cold-blooded—and, above all, clever—killer who manages to get away with it for the entire second season? And why does impatient Gustav Riebmann—who ruthlessly murdered his own father—makes only such sluggish progress with his plot in Tuscany Valley?

Viewers were used to turning a blind eye to plot wholes on Falcon Crest as long as they could enjoy the ride, but in later seasons, that ride became hard to enjoy. For me, the Nicole plot is the biggest head-scratcher, and I don't really understand Frank's backstory either. As far as I recall, Genele was a teenager when Frank got involved with her. By the way, I still wonder who Chris Agretti's parents were. And what kind of cousins were Richard and his future wife Lauren? Was Henri Denault her biological uncle?

My main issue was always when things didn't make sense in terms of characterization. Angela used to be the smartest person in the room, but staring with season 6 I had problems with her. After the unpleasant experience with Sofia wouldn't she have run a background check on Peter's unknown stepdaughter and—above all—had a good PI get some photos of her? And how could Angela fail to run a background check on Vince and discover he was married, instead of plunging Emma into yet another romantic disaster? And why, of all people, would she have bequeathed Falcon Crest to Emma in season 9? Did she want Falcon Crest to go under?

I think Lance went in thinking it would be easy and underestimated Cole's capability. Overconfindence is a weakness.
