I found this article on Digital Spy and I'm in agreement with a few of their choices.
The following is a list of characters who weren't necessarily meant to be the annoying little pissweasels that they went on to become. Whether they got in the way of a great romance, treated people like crap just by being them, or were built up by their shows to be amazing and turned out to be anything but, these are the ones who make us reach for our remotes.
1. Johnny (The OC)
It may have been an easier choice to select season one baddie Oliver for this list, but his storyline is so comical it's kinda worth it. And he buggers off forever. The worst character in OC history is most definitely season 3's Johnny.
A whining wetty Tiny Tim of a surfer dude who just wouldn't leave Marissa alone to the point where he broke her and Ryan up for good, and probably the only character in history to still be annoying even after he died. Impressive work.
Also: that hair. FFS.
2. Lee (Westworld)
We've only had a few episodes to get used to this conspicuously British douche but already we're thinking, "Eugh, this guy" every time he turns up.
In a show full of robots, it's actually the writer character who comes across as the most cartoonish and ridiculous of the lot. We're not sure if it's the character or the way actor Simon Quarterman plays him, but either way: irritating.
3. Janine (Friends)
We wanted to put in an entry for Phoebe, but we'd probably get lynched. So, the Friendsmantle goes to Elle Macpherson's offensively chipper Janine.
Of all the people to move in with Joey after Chandler moved out, we'd have preferred anyone over Janine. Even Eddie would have been a welcome return. Not only was she boring and had zero funny lines (in a sitcom), but she ended up being pretty mean too. A backfire of a guest appearance.
4. Will (Glee)
Although pretty much any character in Glee could probably go in this list at one time or another, there are probably very few fans of the show who would pick teacher Will as their favourite.
When you think about it, Mr Schuester is a pretty naive and all-round bad teacher, but gets given this weird godlike status among his pupils and fellow teachers. Nice guy, but so nice it hurts. And not in a good way.
5. Jo (Grey's Anatomy)
Izzy, Amelia or April could have taken this mantle in Grey's, but we're going to go a bit rogue and choose Dr Jo Wilson as the character who drags the show right down.
Since arriving in season nine, she's been nothing but an irritating brat who has far too many secrets, treats all her friends like crap and at the time of writing has pretty much ruined the life of our favourite hunk: Alex Karev. It was totally her fault that he got arrested for punching the hell out of Deluca and she's got away with it. Comeuppance!
6. Kate (Lost)
We almost chose Jack for this list, but he at least had a few moments of badassery - especially in the finale - that just about save him.
Kate however, damn. We quite liked her "fugitive given a second chance" schtick right at the start. But as we got further and further into the show, she was just the worst. Even without the irritating love triangle she was involved in, she ALWAYS got in the way, made situations much trickier by simply being there, and worst of all: gave the dreaded Kate stare (see above).
7. April (Gilmore Girls)
Just when we thought that Luke and Lorelai were going to FINALLY settle down and have the beautiful relationship we always knew they'd have, the writers had to come up with this devil child.
Out of nowhere, Luke finds out he fathered a child years ago, and so suddenly this brainy know-it-all kid wouldn't leave them alone. It's not exactly the kid's fault, but could they have at least made her a bit less annoying? Her mother made things really difficult too, and before we knew it Lorelai left Luke. She was created purely to break them up, which is not cool.
8. Piper (Orange is the New Black)
It took us a while, but eventually we came to realise that lead character Piper is actually the one we care the least about. But annoyingly you have to keep her there. Maybe. Could we get rid of her and carry on?
It didn't help that she is constantly whining and being generally awful to everyone else. And then there was that accidental white-power group she started. And we've got three more seasons of this.
9. Kim (24)
A lot of people have been killed off in the 24 series. But somehow, Kim has managed to survive everything from nuclear bombs to being trapped with a cougar.
In the first couple of seasons, her sole purpose was to either get kidnapped or generally be a thorn in Jack's side. He doesn't have time right now, dammit! And how the hell she got a job at CTU, even with Jack as her dad, is beyond us.
10. Andrea (The Walking Dead)
Christ, we forgot how much Andrea used to get on our nerves in the early seasons of The Walking Dead.
While Rick, Daryl and Michonne were off kicking ass, you'd always have righteous Andrea following them changing her personality every episode and making moralising speeches and generally being a right Buzz Killington. And she wasn't great at picking partners.
11. The Sand Snakes (Game of Thrones)
We could have picked little shit Olly, or downright evil Joffrey, but the prize has to go to this soul-sucking girlband.
The problem is, they're meant to be cool. But they're not. They just get in the way of the action. As soon as they pop up, it's time to top up your tea or go to the toilet, because it doesn't matter what's going on with them in Dorne. The writers must have realised this, as they swiftly vanished in season 6, but be prepared for a comeback next year. George RR Martin must have plans for them that can't be foisted on other spare characters.
12. Screech (Saved by the Bell)
Maybe we just had low self-esteem, but Screech never seemed to be annoying when we watched this show as kids.
However, watch it now and bloody hell, how did we manage to get through it at all with this little prick on screen? His name is highly apt. The loudmouthed git was meant to be a geeky hero, but if anything he probably deserved all the wedgies and wet willies.
13. Priya (The Big Bang Theory)
It's bad enough when you bring a totally wooden and non-funny character into an over-the-top sitcom like Big Bang, but it's even worse when they're horrible too.
Priya arrived in the early seasons, soon began dating Leonard and generally treated him reallybadly (bossed him about, mean about Sheldon, cheated on him). And then she just kinda left without any fanfare. Considering she's Raj's sister, it's weird that she's never returned. Not that we're complaining.
14. Wesley Crusher (Star Trek: TNG)
Wesley could have been a really cool character. Essentially a fanboy's dream, a young kid hanging alongside Star Trek icons and being a genuine member of the team.
But nope, he constantly meddled and got in the way, was constantly praised for his "good behaviour" and was just a right wet weekend. Even actor Wil Wheaton hates him, frequently shouting, "Shut up, Wesley!" in his Next Generation reviews.
15. Dawn (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)
Riley was a right fun vacuum, but we've got to give it to Buffy's sister Dawn as the annoying character du maison in Buffy. After arriving with provocatively little explanation in season 5, Dawn provided nothing but constant whining, being generally ungrateful and being so useless that she could have accidentally killed any of the Scoobies at any time.
She was the Scrappy Doo of the Buffyverse. In fact, while we're on the subject:
