We have lost many great actors and actresses in this year, especially this month. Are there any you could have seen in Dallas? If so, what would be their roles? I could see Catherine O'Hara as Jeremy Wendell's niece who obtains his shares in Westar following his arrest and becomes the new villain in the later years. I could see her character as dark with a comedic edge and playing well against Hagman. In one of my Dallas alternate universe fanfics, Dolly Parton was Carter McKay's evil ex-wife who winds up marrying Jock. In that universe, Jock did not die, but he and Miss Ellie divorced over Takapa. Tim Curry could have played a dark and psychotic character who becomes involved with Sue Ellen, but his true character does not manifest itself till later.

Perhaps Shelley Fabares could have appeared as Garrison Southworth's daughter when Donna Reed was playing the role of Miss Ellie.

Since some actors appeared in different roles in both Dallas and Knots Landing, I would have liked it if Joanna Pettet had shown up as Julie Grey's younger sister.

Vincent Pastore could have played a relative of Nicholas Pearce.

I remember seeing a suggestion a while back that Dolly would have made a great Sally Bullock (devious wife of the venerable tanker magnate Mr. Eugene)..

Julie Harris may have been too ‘Knotsy’ for Dallas, but Dolly as Lilimae Clements might have fit right in on the mother show. I wonder how well she could have pulled off sounding like a lousy singer with delusions of grandeur…

It’s been longer since he passed, but why not get Kenny Rogers in there as a cartel member while we’re at it? Maybe he could have been Wade “The Gambler” Luce, always game to jump in on a risky deal.

I think she was younger than Van Ark. It would be a stretch. Maybe she could have played Val's sister who was a carbon copy of Lilimae and her obvious favorite. A sibling rivalry between Dolly and Val would have been interesting IMO.

ah, that’s true! I think I was somehow conflating the Lucy-Valene relationship of Dallas with the Valene-Lilimae relationship of Knots. And/or maybe picturing Dolly from about 20 years ago, not nearly 50.

In any event, Dolly should have had an affair with the dynamic Andy Bradley. They could have sung a poignant duet at one of the lounges Afton performed at.

Why not Valene herself? A while back, there was a thread devoted to Dolly as a potential Dallas character.

Back then, I said this:

Dolly would actually have made a pretty good great Valene.*

I'd buy her as Charlene Tilton's mother and she could pull off the right balance of trash and feistiness for Jock to disapprove of her and JR to despise and secretly covet her.

*Forget everything you saw on Knots Landing. Just picture Dolly in any Valene scene from Reunion or Secrets. The dialogue is tailor made for her.

It only really works if you consider Val as written in her relatively smaller role in Dallas, as opposed to her evolution over on Knots, but I maintain that Hot Biscuit Val is almost tailor made for Dolly.

Why not Dolly as Lucy's real mum, and Val as the nanny who kidnapped her and got away with? All that we know more or less matches with that. Actually Lucy looks more like a mini-Dolly...Val already obsessed with other people's babies...In this scenario JR is Lucy's father...And Knots Landing doesn't exist...
