okay here's a good example Supernatural was on for 15 years it never once reached #1 in fact i don't think any CW show has ever reached #1 and if you look at the ratings if it was on CBS that show would have only lasted 1 season because of it's low ratings but because it was on a smaller network it had more of a chance. well if you look at the ratings not once did it hit under the top #100 shows yet it was a hit show now it wasn't as big Lost was in it's Prime or hell didn't have the viewership friends had back in the day either but it was i think a great show and the ratings really varied through the years some years it was pretty good for a CW show anyways other times depending on the season it did worse but it was a hit if Alf was on the CW i think it would still be considered a bit hit at least for that network.
you don't have to be in the top 10 to be a huge hit for a network look how long The X-files took to even reach any success as it did very poorly when it started. Agent of Shield also was a big hit at first than the ratings didn't do as good but it still pulled in the numbers as well and they got an ending to that show. Supernatural had an actual ending and it was the guys who choose to end the show not the network well actually if you can believe it the president of the CW loves the show & it was a huge hit for
that channel but the numbers may not make it out to be that. Alf wasn't a show to get nominated for Emmy's anyways it never was that type of show just because a show doesn't hit the top #10 doesn't mean it's not a huge hit. Alf got a video game i believe and i don't think Supernatural has but i think if a show gets a freaking Video game it's a pretty damn successful show at least in my book. i think it was a PC game i can't remember and i never played it well that's how i look at it anyways. course if Alf
was on the air today i think it would maybe do pretty good we don't have networks have #25 million viewers anymore which is what they used to aim for and why so many shows would get cancelled but these days with DV-R and streaming networks & their own websites as well who play the current episodes after they air they are smart to no longer try and get that kind of numbers anymore though when it comes to games well sports like the super bowl they can still get those numbers which is not surprising at all to be honest. but that's the exception i think

i was watching some CSI last night i think? and Jerry Stahl did some episodes well he wrote some well he also wrote some Alf as well. he's the dude that Ben Stiller Played in the (1998) film Permanent Midnight which i have yet to see. he had a really bad coke problem in the 80's apparently and looking up his filmography as well he started writing Porn! so a writer for freaking Alf started out writing Porn that's just too funny
St Elsewhere (which I loved) was a critically lauded show as was Party for Five, but both were low rated shows as well.
But clearly they did well enough for Fox and NBC to keep them on air. Party of Five is notorious because it beat out the heavily promoted Central Park West at one stage.

St. Elsewhere i'e never really watched that but my folks did back in the day, Party of Five however i love and i have the whole series on dvd. it's funny how some shows that have been around a long time have never hit Number #1 like The Simpson's which has been on over 30 years now and it's never hit #1 at all! looking it up it's never even hit the top 10 but hit The Top 20 once in Season 12 it hit #21. My So Called Life is another show that should have been on longer, that show back than had praise from everyone but it for some reason could not find an audience and was even cancelled before it even finished filming season 1! i don't get it or i don't get how Freaks and Geeks was also cancelled yet it's one of the greatest shows of all time i watched it back than too
My So Called Life was placed up by ABC on Thursday night against the established shows Mad About You and Friends on NBC as well as Martin Lawrence's sitcom Martin on Fox, which was basically asking for trouble.
Had the series been renewed for a 2nd season, Claire Danes had told The Bedford Falls Company and ABC that she wanted to be no part of it. I believe she copped abuse from some angry fans online when that came out.

i don't remember hearing that at all i'm not calling you a liar by any means what i remember did happen was she than wanted to work and just started to do movies. she says that now but she's i think a year younger than me so i would remember this if she did say something back in the 90's. but even if they had put that against all those shows you never know if you are you are going to have a hit i mean you can at times no doubt tell that certain shows are special but that doesn't mean the public will agree with you ya know? i mean if you are it's creator or a producer of the show or network, look at Married With Children though it never was at #1 once
