Am I the only one who cannot tolerate the Mark Graison character?

Mark's entire persona was his playboy image. Woman came up to Pam insulting her for taking him off the market. They didn't address that part of him in the 'Dream Season', but it was very much a part of his character prior to his 'death'.

I think the playboy image was a part of his persona in the beginning but it seemed like that all stopped once he fell for Pam. I think Mark was more than willing to give that life up for her, and also because Pam wasn’t going to put up with that.

I thought he was in the oil business but I’m not sure. I remember J.R. and Mark bumping into each other in a restaurant and J.R. asking why they’ve never done any business together or something to that effect. So I always assumed Graisco had something to do with oil but I’m not certain.

Pam was a unhappy, but wasn't the victim of an abusive husband.

Dusty didn't pursue her as such, he let her do the chasing at her own pace before ringing to make arrangements. He never pushed her to agree to meeting him.

One area was drill bits for oil exploration. Remember, he sold that subsidiary of Graisco to Cliff.

i didn't see it mentioned above, but, one of the things that showed Mark's true character was an interaction he had with Cliff. Cliff came over to Mark's house to discuss some deals. Mark started talking about his concerns that Pamela was going to reconcile with Bobby. He wasn't sure if there were going to be any business dealing s with Cliff.

I guess it shouldn’t really matter at all but I think the point Mark was trying to make was if Bobby and Pam reconciled he probably wasn’t going to be around much longer to do any business. Perhaps he felt it would be too hard to stay close enough with Cliff to get anything done without Pam.

To be fair no one was ever going to be good enough to move in on Pam or replace Bobby.

Alex Ward wasn't popular and Mark Graison wasn't popular with the majority. It was rumoured that Peter Richards might lust after Pam (Shock horror God forbid) but it was poor Sue Ellen who ended up with that story because her reputation warranted it.

Would a nice normal chap wanting Pam have been accepted? Probably not. How about a beautiful hunky rich man? No, because Bobby fitted that bill. A bad guy? No chance!

When Dallas was top dog viewers hated any change. No man was ever going to be good enough to grace Pam's arm.

Mark wasn't a stalker, he was just a guy who really fancied someone. She even used him. Pam wasn't desperately unhappy and didn't need or want saving.

I think Mark was savvy enough to sense that Cliff wasn't the most stable guy to do business with in general, so without the "doing a favor for my girlfriend/partner/wife" aspect, he wouldn't have a compelling reason to risk it. Whatever Graisco did (it seemed to be some sort of at least oil-industry-adjacent industrial conglomerate, somewhere in the ballpark of Wentworth Industries), it appeared to be established and stable enough that there was no need to go into any ventures with an inexperienced, erratic, vendetta-driven guy like Cliff. Graisco was kind of meant to be out of Cliff's league, at least a level above the cartel boys and even the Ewings. One of the first times we saw Mark, he gave JR the brushoff, probably for similar reasons - why get involved with someone with JR's less-than-stellar reputation if you don't have to?

Well, let’s face it, Cliff wasn’t exactly the most stable person to do business with in general. Mark had to be aware of that. As for J.R., it was Mark himself that said at their first meeting they had nothing in common other than their choice in places to have lunch. Mark was smart enough to know he really didn’t need either of them.

yep, Graisco seemed very “establishment”. “Take the company jet to France”, “string of polo ponies” , etc.

A Jordan Lee might already be wealthy but still tempted to go in on a questionable deal with JR to get to the next level (let’s say 9 figure net worth instead of 8, or maybe “I can be a billionaire too!”)

Mark was born into a station at least a level above that. On top of that, he ended up tall and athletic and handsome and socially adept. I think the key to his character’s humanity is “I always had anything I wanted or could imagine without even trying, but I never knew love until I saw Pam.”
