But looking back this would have been the perfect way for the plot to develop. Clayton could have died from a heart attack while he & Miss Ellie were traveling.  Then when she returned they’d have a flashback to their final talk we never saw. Where he said to her, “Ellie, you know it’s me but I have to go. The boys will never believe me. It’s a testament to how much they loved me”. Then he gives her space to grieve Clayton & they gradually. I’ve played out a poignant scene many times of where he yells at the boys & tells them things about their childhood only their father would know. Then they both realize it is Jock. Dallas could have ended with the Ewings winning back Ewing Oil. And having somewhat of a family presence again</p></blockquote><p></p>
