I have been a Dallas fan more than 20 years and have also owned the DVD box including all the movies for some time. But before this week I haven't watched the Early Years because that didn't interest me a lot.

I was delighted to see that at the end of the movie we can those outdoor shots they used in opening credits at '86 I guess. :)

IMO, that last part (where we saw all the title sequence shots, unfettered by the lines) was remarkably interesting to me (because we actually got to see how the helicopter turned to take in the whole field of Texas Stadium, for one thing).

And one other thing-- the Early Years film was not the only place to see an unfettered Texas Stadium shot; the later years of Dallas itself had such a thing (1989-91), where the second version was unfettered by the lines, and all the other shots were full-screen shots.

I watched The Early Years once when it was originally broadcast and have only vague memories, but was Ellie particularly sexy and wild in it?

Before it premiered on West German TV in 1987, there were previews in magazines. For example, one cover read: Miss Ellie sexier than ever! A more detailed preview had the headline: Miss Ellie's wild teenage years!

Incidentally, Dallas: How It All Began, as it was called in German, didn't air on Dallas's home channel ARD but on the competitor ZDF, which aired Dynasty. Here are the week's ratings for The Early Years:

Early Years Ratings.JPG

The Early Years was ahead of Dynasty (Der Denver Clan) at number 6. The German glamour primetime soap Das Erbe der Guldenburgs was by far the most-watched program of the week. Lindenstraße, which was influenced by Coronation Street, came in eighth place. For those who still remember Carry On, the film series was called Ist ja irre (It's Crazy) in German. The film Ist ja irre – In der Wüste fließt kein Wasser (No water flows in the desert), original title, Follow That Camel, was popular at number 4.

They should have film THE EARLY YEARS at the Box Ranch (a year before it burned). We need to find out the house was hit by a twister necessitating partial reconstruction) after the 1978 miniseries.

To be honest, "sexier than ever" is not really a high bar. Just being younger would do it.
