I've watched the first two episodes. It's fine and I'll probably dip in and out of it every so often but I'm not hooked from episode one in the same way as I have been with other soaps (Empire, Dirty Sexy Money, Revenge) in the past. I think my issue is the initial disjointedness of the family unit. I like family soaps when they're all interacting and sparking off each other. I'm sure the family will be pulled in closer together as time goes on but right now it feels like you have the Monreaux's world, Ginger's motel webcam group, Antonio's side story with his mother and then coma brother in another city. When they all get involved in some capacity with the network, I think it will flow better. Regarding upcoming twists, I think there is something a bit incesty going on between Reverend Paul and his sister Becky and there may be a fling between Margaret and Antonio.

Canceled!

The live ratings haven't been huge but they have been consistent (they only dropped by 25% week on week with the most recent episode), so I thought they might keep it going on the basis of consistency. In saying that, I haven't watched since episode 2, so it's not like I'll lament the loss.

Variety have expanded on the reasons behind the cancellation. The cost of producing it amid coronavirus restrictions played a large part, so steady (albeit low) ratings weren't enough to keep it going.

I liked it. It started slow though. One needs to see a bit more of each character and not just the snippets (the boxer and not-coma Jason were too vague). But the big ensemble, an already expensive looking production and the many crowd scenes with extras would have been impossible to do for a second season. Filthy Rich had almost everything I expect from a primetime soap. It's sad.

At least we don´t have to worry about Kim Cattrall. She can always turn to her SATC "girlfriends" for comfort... :danc:

Honestly, both would've been cancelled with or without corona restrictions. They had painfully low ratings and Fox seems to be getting out of the scripted game as it is, switching more to sports and reality. I'll watch the remaining episodes and hope they tied up most things in the final episode.

The end was great. It didn't feel like a cliffhanger but it was emotionally tight. This is how soap dramas with an uncertain future should end their seasons. Very satisfying. Loved Kim Cattrall in it!
I wouldn't be surprised if a second series would have revealed that she was manipulating Eugene into it (maybe based on a idea of her sleazy brother when he was alive) because he seemed to be a stupid ass.

I thought it was a perfect combination of closure and also a bit of an opening for a season 2. I was also a bit iffy about the younger cast in the pilot, but they all seemed to gel together nicely towards the end. Too bad it didn't work out in the end, but as I said it works nicely as a mini-series too.
