General Election set for 12 December

Whether people like it or not, we need immigrants because we have an aging population. Our choices are either to have more babies, tax young people more, kill off old people or have more immigration.

Jeremy Corbyn was one of the few realistic MPs who consistently made the case for immigration to support our economy but people weren't willing to listen. As he once said, if you are in hospital, about to have an operation will you really care if your surgeon was born in the UK, India, the Caribbean or Eastern Europe? (I don't recall the exact words but that was the gist of it). I hope people who voted for less immigrants are willing to pay more taxes to train more healthcare and construction workers and they are prepared to wait many years for them to have the skills to do the job. Personally, I think they should go to the back of the queue for hospital treatment, behind those who recognise the value that immigrants bring to our country.​

Jo Swinson losing her seat was karma. She targeted Labour seats, splitting the anti-Tory and anti-Brexit vote which allowed the Tories to win many seats.

Yes totally agree regarding Swinson, in some areas there was such a small number between Labour and Tory. If she had aligned her party with Labour or ideally did a Farage and stepped down in the areas she had no hope of winning, then perhaps the result would not have been so bad.

But I am trying to find some light in this and now Johnson can't hide in a fridge, or blame others. He will be in the spotlight, so any failures will be his failures. He has made some big promoises so let's see if her can deliver.

Well lets hope there are no more elections for the next few years as Im sick of them and didnt vote for main 5 parties,

and im not surprised at the Labour vote crumbling as I could never ever vote for Corbyn - its their worst result since 1935 and he is the man to blame.
if you offfered me a night of passion with pat D I still couldnt vote for him, hes a vote loser.

as for the NHS - its failing in scotland, I work in it and its not due to the Tories but due to SNP, Hospitals in Glasgow and Edinburggh are never out of the press and for all the wrong reasons
same goes for education falling down league tables, Police Scotland, Transport, Roads

people used to say Put a chimp in for labour and people will vote for it in Scotland, now its SNP and i might just apply for a passport south of the border if the Jimmy Krankie look a like and annoying little gnaff gets her way.

Chris Evans once said there should be a box on the ballet paper that says NONE OF THE ABOVE TOSSERS! I wish there was!

PS Jo Swinson comes across as a bossy school teacher (with delusions of grandeur if she ever thought she could be PM) Always thought the Lib dems might do better but they lost a lot of votes by denying 17 million their brexit vote.

Yes, you have hit the nail on the head there about the SNP, Nicola Sturgeon is a girning nyirp, only out to cause trouble, just like Sinn Fein here.

I do feel sorry for those decent Labour members who despise Corbyn as much as the rest of us.

Means nothing now but Labour made gains in 2017 because they pledged to honour the Brexit result but the right wingers like Tony Blair, Yvette Cooper, Hilary Blair and the other People's Vote supporters forced Jeremy into going for a second referendum, thus allowing the party to be portrayed as a remain party and that cost them votes and seats in the north of Britain. It wasn't Corbyn that damaged Labour's chances, it was the Blairites.

That said, yesterday Corbyn still managed to get a larger share of the vote than Ed Miliband achieved in 2015 and what Gordon Brown achieved in 2010, he even got more total votes that Blair achieved when he won the election in 2005 so I never subscribe to the opinion that people don't like Jeremy Corbyn.

The real losers are the 4 million children who live in poverty in Britain that no party, other than Labour, even talked about during the election campaign.

Stormzy has made his feelings on the general election result known, reposting a tweet dubbing the Conservative win a ‘dark day for minorities’.


He shared Mehdi Hasan’s tweet which read: ‘Dark day for minorities in the UK. Especially for British Muslims who watched as a man who said “Islam was the problem,” mocked veiled Muslim women, & also turned a blind eye to massive anti-Muslim hatred in his party, was just given a landslide majority by their fellow Britons.’



On Instagram, singer/songwriter Paloma Faith vowed to be kind to others, even while predicting a dismantling of UK institutions moving forward.
“I will do as much as I can to help this country in what might be the worst state it’s been in economically and environmentally in years as we crash out the EU/end the NHS/ and see a rise in homelessness,” she wrote. “I love Britain… and I love people.”












But of course, none of that matters as long as we get Brexit done and we can blame everything on Jeremy Corbyn.
