It's absolutely heartbreaking how students are being penalised by this government regarding A-level results.
The system the government are using to award A-Level results is marking down so many young people unfairly. The algorithm they are using is adjusting predictions based on past performance of educational establishments so students who did well at a school that traditionally didn't produce good A-level results are being marked down. This approach is most negatively impacting those from deprived areas as these tend to have the worst schools. As is typical of this Tory government, students at private schools overwhelming are not having their results downgraded.
I have no doubt that if I went though this system it would have completely changed the course of my life, probably for the worst. I went to a school that was bottom of the league tables in just about every criteria they measured, including A-level results. It was so rare for children from my school to get good A-level results and go university that when I passed my exams it made the local newspaper. Under Boris Johnson's system I would have been given lower grades and would have lost my university place. I would have had to pursue a different career and wouldn't have had many of the opportunities that having a university degree gave me.
I'm no fan of Nicola Sturgeon but I applaud her for taking action to address this problem in Scotland. Boris Johnson needs to do the same immediately. Had it affected the students at Eton, I have no doubt changes would already have been made.
