Since the original run. I'd been a great fan of I Dream of Jeannie and followed Larry Hagman through the short-lived sitcoms The Good Life (with Donna Mills) and then Here We Go Again. Dallas started as just the next one but became much more than that.

I started watching Dallas during the TNN reruns in September 1996. I was 13 at the time, and a big fan of The Dukes of Hazzard. I would watch the reruns all the time on TNN, and started seeing commercials for Dallas. I didn't think anything of it at the time. However, I flipped through the channels one day and caught the show during the hostage scene of "Winds of Vengeance." It caught my attention, and I was hooked from then on.

I can also recall when I saw Jock's death for the first time. I had no idea that Jim Davis had died in real life, so I was pretty devastated when I saw the tribute to him at the end. It caught me off guard, and I remember being depressed over it for quite some time. That's when I knew just how hooked I was. I also thought the show would end soon after because I didn't think it would continue without him. Of course, I was obviously in for a big shock! In a way, I consider myself lucky to have grown up without the Internet. Although the show was already 18 years old when I first saw it, I had no outside influence to spoil it for me.

As a side note, my mom once asked me what I was watching during an early episode. I told her it was an old show with an older Major Nelson and a young Frank Lambert! :D

I began watching Dallas from its first airing here in Oz. I would have been only 13 or 14 at the time. Since most American shows were screened in our Winter, long after their screening in the northern hemisphere, I would imagine there was a lot of buzz surrounding this "New" show. Looking back I'm surprised my parents allowed me to watch it with its "Sex, Sin, Scandal" tag. Perhaps I was a late bloomer and those type of things washed over me...lol. Today it is still my favourite show of all time.

First I apologize for replying to old threads
I first discovered Dallas in 1981 (Dallas 1st run in France). All my family was hooked by that new show, I remember the "Dallas french theme"! But I was too young and prefered playing in another room but I felt in love with Southfork Ranch! :D
So I became a fan at the 2nd Dallas run in 1986. Then I never missed a rerun through the years. Back in the day I also recorded all the episodes on video tapes and later recorded them on DVD!!
My dream was to visit Southfork and went there 3 times!! I can't wait to go a 4th time and spend a night in the ranch since there's a new (expensive) package allowing us to do that!!

I started watching it every week in the second season. I had no idea I'd be moving down to big D 2 years after the show began (1980) to work at Texas Instruments. The show sort of had me primed for moving down there and it was and exciting adventure for 12 some years. I remember taping the show and one time the power went off and I totally missed that episode! I was so upset (because there were no reruns). :( Dallas and the Dukes of Hazzard, now that was a fun evening of entertainment!

It was during JR and Sue Ellen’s reconciliation and wedding and then became hooked.

I saw the closing credits from one of the first three episodes of the miniseries in April 1978. The first scene I remember catching was Bobby coming up the steps of Jenna's apartment in Morgan Fairchild's episode that fall.

I didn't intend to ever watch DALLAS. Seeing Major Nelson in a big cowboy hat, cackling into the rearview mirror at night, all set to a jaunty John Parker score, was enough to turn me off of this crass and vulgar "soap opera" for nighttime TV forever. Or so I thought.

I'd seen most of the cast elsewhere: Larry from JEANNIE, Linda's transsexual shoulders from ALL THAT GLITTERS, Jim Davis from countless westerns, Patrick from MAN FROM ATLANTIS, Susan Howard from PETROCELLI, and even Charlene (who was murdered on POLICE WOMAN, as was Audrey Landers).

But, oddly, I didn't know Barbara -- I'd yet to see VERTIGO -- and she became the first one to draw me in. She reminded me rather markedly of my maternal grandmother, her gentle matriarchal ways, even her eventual kitchen and the way she loved blue.

But it wasn't until 'Who Shot JR?' that I really started watching DALLAS, as it was a global phenomenon in 1980, but I didn't really, really become a weekly viewer until after Jim Davis died and I started watching every episode to see how they handled Jock's absence, somewhat appalled that they kept him alive for many months after the actor had expired (although Paulsen would explain years later why they had to do that).

I was now hooked, and I caught up with the backstory when DALLAS became the first series to go into syndicated reruns while still #1 in primetime in 1984.

By then I was watching all four of the shows and had been for several years. I even made a miniature Southfork in my spare time.

I started watching Dallas with my mom when I was 10 years old. It was during the last half of season 11. For years my mom had been watching Dallas, and I hated it. I was usually at another television, watching the Friday night lineup on ABC. For whatever, reason, I started to become interested during the 11th season, and then when I caught the reruns on a local station, I was hooked. I think the first rerun I saw was "Winds Of Vengeance". From then on out, it became a Friday night tradition for us to watch Dallas together. We even stayed through the depressing 14th season. I think we kept hoping somehow it was going to pick up, and be Dallas again, but it never did.

That's when I started seeing it too (don't know if I started in that year, though).
