I'm going in...my first ever full watch of The Colbys

Having just finished a full Dallas rewatch I have treated myself to The Colbys on DVD, despite having watched Dynasty over and over several times over the years I have never done a full run through of The Colby's and have only ever previously seen the first 5 episodes and then the very final one.

So far I am up to episode 7, I love everything about it with the possible exception of Bliss Colby, she seems underused so far ( The Lucy Ewing of The Colbys maybe?). I am such a huge fan of Stephanie Beecham and Emma Samms so this is a joy to watch. It really seems to compliment Dynasty well, it's the same but different in all the right places. Having the opening titles linked th way they have with the same style really works and keeps that connection strong. I love the main theme tune and the use of background music too. So far so good.

Enjoy it! I'm currently watching The Colbys again because I'm in Dynasty's season 6, so for first time I'm watching both shows in original order and I like it because of crossovers I never really appreciated before. Anyway, I'm watching only one episode of both shows a week and every episode of The Colbys is weaker than Dynasty. I've watched five episodes so far.

Jason not dying is lame, at least it was revealed after a few episodes and not like Lucious on Empire after a full season. Overall The Colbys is better than remembered, but there's no must-see in it.

What surprises me the most is that it was ordered that way. Dynasty was no 1 not just in total viewers but in demos season before. Did ABC really think 18-49's would enjoy watching old-fashioned Hollywood stars Charlton Heston and Barbara Stanwyck? Among younger characters Fallon is like a stranger, the Colbys children are too boring and I doubt Jeff wasn't the reason twens used to watch Dynasty.

I read that Joan Collins was totally against the show and that Barbara Stanwyck couldn't wait to leave it. I believe Ricardo Montalban
is present throughout but he is credited as a guest star in the titles - This is all new to me!

Like Heather Locklear on Melrose Place.

I read that Joan Collins was totally against the show
She felt it weakened DYNASTY and that it pulled resources from her show.
Barbara Stanwyck couldn't wait to leave it.
The show runners certainly didn't stand in her way.

I feel like they literally added Bliss to the cast as to not have a repeat performance of Dynasty where they have to make up new siblings or recast. It's clear that they had no real idea what to do with her.
My main recollection of Bliss during season one is that she was hardly ever there and when she did appear onscreen, she was making excuses for why she'd be missing from some family event/dinner and when she occasionally did show up to an event/dinner, she'd excuse herself early & leave anyway.

Bliss could have been the vixen that was missing in The Colbys. She was feeling talentless and directionless, and then there was the superior sister Monica. It shouldn't be too difficult to combine that and it would keep her close to the mansion.

But if I have to be honest I'm just glad that the others got more screen time. When she was on screen she neither bothered nor excited me.

So i have discovered the voice of Gary Morris through The Colbys! LOVE his voice! Had never heard of him before this, have downloaded some of his stuff and managed to get the main song he sings on The Colbys onto my I-pod so I'm happy!
There was a weird Dallas-themed country music LP in the mid-80s and Gary Morris has a couple of songs on it. Before that, I was convinced he was really blind.
