What JR tells Sue Ellen about wanting a baby he himself sired is a different thing from wanting to give Jock a blood grandchild -- one that precedes a natural born grandchild that Bobby & Pam might provide (and potentially provide first). So the clock is running.
And humiliating the family with an extramarital baby scandal, and losing his leverage over Jock's affections (and the effect that might have on JR's status, inheritance, and his place at Ewing Oil) gave JR lots of reason to avoid a blood test for John Ross. Especially if John Ross is a blood-Barnes!!
And an adopted child, one Sue Ellen wanted in Black Market Baby, would always have a secondary stature with Ye Olde Patriarch.
Now, how could we later finagle, in nuDALLAS, that Christopher was JR's son, too, after all??
