I enjoyed "Rebel Heart" as a collection of songs -- and there are some great ones included -- but as an album I found it messy and chaotic. It lacks the cohesion that her best albums have.

I can see that. My top 3 from that one would be Ghosttown, Rebel Heart, and Devil Pray. And I'm just grateful she's still putting music out there. :)

my tastes have changed over the years
I can apply this thinking to myself. I'd have to retrace my steps but i think the last album I purchase was this...

...and it was an album I really enjoyed. Madonna was entering a mother earth type persona and I think it suited her however when I look at her now she is clinging to dear life on her past 80's look...it doesn't work for her. She might believe it keeps her relevent for todays generation but from my prospective it comes off as desperate. But that's okay. All credit to Madonna - and her attitude to life - but my taste in music has changed.
