NCIS exit shocker

Mark Harmon has left NCIS after 18 seasons in last night's episode.

NCIS is still the most watched show on US TV, it's also strong on Netflix and on international tv, so the loss of the main character Leroy Jethro Gibbs is enormous. In case you're watching NCIS, will you miss him? Will the show survive his exit? Is Gary Cole a good replacement for Mark Harmon?

has anyone seen an actual comment from saying he's leaving the show? i dunno if i'm in denial or not but i am having a hard time believing he's leaving the show.
yes it felt like a good bye but i dunno if he's done for good or not? or if they will have a story line with him in peace and at some point in the season go back to the job.
but that's just me i guess

Showrunner said : “As an executive producer and dear friend, Mark continues to be an integral part of the fabric of the show. Our north star has always been staying true to our characters, and that truth has always guided the stories we tell and where those characters go. So regarding the future of Gibbs, as long-time fans of the show may have noticed over the years…never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out.”

Since Mark Harmon is an executive producer I assume he might return for an episode or a short arc if ratings drop too much. CBS doesn't seem interested in NCIS anymore (too expensive, demos too low compared to total viewers) so it moved NCIS to a new night after 18 seasons to make room free for FBI franchise all Tuesday night. Guess what? FBI lost viewers without NCIS as lead-in and NCIS also lost viewers in its new Monday home, but is still no 1 on US TV. CBS currently treats NCIS like many of its previous hit shows: without much dignity.

i saw that but to me that's not really giving anyone any kind of answer if he's gone for good, sure he's an executive producer so was William Peterson for CSI the entire Run damn near, but Peterson had nothing to do with the show cept for a couple episodes he lent his voice to an one episode he was in for a short time. shot in one day i believe. other than that, that's about all he actually had anything to do with the show other than having his name be the executive Producer.

i hear the number of episodes are in the single digits for Harmon but i dunno if it's just me but i have a hard time believing that because has the network Offically said he was done being the lead? that Quote he said does not answer the question at all nor has Harmon confirmed it either as far as i know. when Michael Weatherly left or any of the others they pretty much said they were going to leave though Bishop was a surprise that she left. that was the exception i think.

but when you had that woman train her off camera you that was the start of the end of her leaving we just did not know it at the time. but Harmon is different i know he's 70 years old now but one wonders how long the show can last without him? there are shit ton of people who watch it only cause he's on the show and they love his character. him too, and the ratings are gonna drop without him if he is gone for good i think. this i think if he is going to be gone for good this is the last season of the show.

that's what i believe anyways. i do not want it to be though but i really think it is if Harmon is leaving the show

I think adding Gary Cole to the cast is a big hint that Gibbs is not returning. Do you like Gary Cole's character? I like the actor in general, but it feels like CBS is not taking care much about a replacement like back then when William Petersen left CSI. Laurence Fishburne and his character were different, but also good compared to Grishom. If CBS wanted to have a replacement like that for Gibbs another actor or even actress would have been hired.

from what i read he wasn't a replacement what the show runner said was he always wanted to add another character into the show as he felt there was not enough of them hence why Gary Cole who i have loved since he was on that fantastic and vastly underrated show "American Gothic (1995-1996)

they never did say he was replacing Harmon at all. i dunno yet if i like his character to be honest it's still too early for me to say that, but him letting Gibbs go is a good start. yes that could be a big hint but if that is true will McGee still be in charge? it would make total sense if he was because he is a good leader i think. now weather them saying that without saying yes he is a replacement i have no idea if that's true if that is the case. for all we know as i said they easily could have the season have him in Alaska meaning Gibbs finding that peace and than finding someone who needs his help and by seasons end he's back with NCIS. but that's just guesswork i have no proof at all that's going to happen

I Will always watch it until it ends just cause he's now gone does not mean the show is turning to shit. i love CSI and while i'm the 1st to say that the best years are with William Peterson the show still was pretty damn good without him too at least i think so anyways

Mark Harmon's exit was least watched episode of NCIS in same day viewers: only 7,657 million watched it.

I'm surprised CBS didn't promote his exit to get higher ratings, but I think there might be some strategy behind it. 3 million viewers dvr NCIS and watch the episode days later, but those who no longer watch it regularly would like to watch Gibbs' exit as well. Now you need to watch NCIS online. Is the latest episode of NCIS freely available on CBS All Access and CBS.com or do users have to pay for it?

well CBS access you do have to play for the official CBS website you do not. really that was the least watched? i think had it been promoted as his exit it would have had higher ratings. my other reason for it not getting higher reason is reason #2 and that while yes the time and day has changed but maybe not everyone realizes it. we've all been there where they change time and days so much for a show you love that you miss it cause you don't realize it or don't know it was changed.
yes they have been promoting it that it was going to change but there are some people who watch tv and the only show they watch is say NCIS. take my brother and his wife. i dunno about her but with him he's got kids and he comes home around 9:00 at night or so i think? even when he got home earlier since he's got 2 kids he doesn't watch much tv cause he takes care of them.

there's only a couple shows he watches one is SVU and i think there's 2 or 3 he likes and that's about it. or so he tells me he to quote him do not have the time to watch much tv. that's fine my point is if you watch a tv show for so long on one day and at the same time. and it's changed if you do know about it you easily could also reason #3 forget that it's even on Monday nights. and if you don't watch that much tv as it is when tv isn't on the front of your mind you easily could miss the shows you do happen to have time to watch. that's my reasoning anyways i dunno how right i am or how wrong but i'd say it's somewhere in the middle

Immediately after news of Bull's cancellation came out, fans are already speculating whether Michael Weatherly will return to NCIS to stop ratings decline. Could it really happen?

I can't imagine CBS wanting to continue working with Michael Weatherly after all the trouble he's caused. Bull was still doing better in total viewers and demos than renewed CSI: Vegas, so I guess CBS just wanted to get rid of Michael Weatherly.

Gone are the days when NCIS was the most-watched show. The (short-term?) return of Tony and Ziva could change that.
By the way, is anybody watching spin-offs Los Angeles and Hawaii? There's a triple crossover coming up. When it comes to the spin-offs I prefer Hawaii over Los Angeles, although Los Angeles had a great run, but I'm kind of done with it and wouldn't mind if it got cancelled. Hawaii is better than I had expected. I wasn't looking forward to another NCIS spin-off but Hawaii is nice.

yeah it does seem each season he was on less and less i wish he had been on more but he had pretty much retired from acting to be with his family however he prolly still did the show to do something outside of family lol. either way it breaks my heart he passed away even if he had just turned 90 a few days prior

For those who still miss Gibbs, there is good news: He is returning for a cameo, not on NCIS but in the latest spin-off NCIS: Origins, which focuses on young Gibbs. It was already known that Mark Harmon would be heard as a narrator for each episode, but in the pilot, which will air on Oct. 14 on CBS, Mark Harmon will make a brief visual appearance as Gibbs.

A new exit shocker on NCIS!

Was the exit really just about a change in creative direction, or was it perhaps due to budget cuts, since the long-time cast members of NCIS must be earning quite a bit by now?

I remember liking Rocky Carroll back when he was on Chicago Hope and hoping we'd see him more often somewhere else after the show ended—and then he got his role on NCIS, and who would have thought he'd keep it for 18 years? I liked Vance, and I'll miss him.

He also played Roc's brother on that show, Roc. I would hate to see him go. I liked Vance as well.
