I have a bigger crush on him now than I ever did. :)

Ditto! He's so humble and gracious, what an absolute gent.

I've really enjoyed reading through everyone else's reactions - I'm pleased to say that it was an absolute perfect ending for me. I shed plenty of tears in the finale but I came away from it feeling exactly the celebratory sense they were hoping for.

Mike/Jane was more touching than I could have imagined and my reaction to it took me by surprise. I have hazy recollections of them as a child but the writing and performances were so gentle and heartfelt. The tour around the houses, Mike cajoling Jane into going for a ride and hearing about his life. Jane's final line "Amazing", echoing Mike's daughter - that sent me over the edge. Annie Jones really deserves to continue on and make the most of her career now she's back in the business again.

Susan's simple final scene with Karl ("Karl. I love you") and the lovely monologue to end it all. Just lovely.

There was a period in the show's history (around 2010-2013) where I was a far less avid viewer and frankly expected a cancellation announcement at any point. There was a palpable sense of struggling behind the scenes, lack of network interest, weak stories and a producer team with very little interest in the real Neighbours brand or history. If it had ended then, I would have been more immediately accepting of it but it would have finished with an absolute whimper. I'm so glad the past five years in particular, it's had a completely different team behind it and gone off on a high that will leave it in peoples' affections.

There’s a behind the scenes video on the Neighbours Twitter account and it sounds like Kylie wouldn’t have appeared only Jason Donovan emailed her and that convinced her.
I don't have Twitter, so didn't know how to look it up, but I found this on YT which I'm going to assume is the same video.

I also read this

The executive producer of Neighbours has revealed why Kylie Minogue and Jason Donovan had such little dialogue in the finale last week.

Speaking to TV Tonight, Jason Herbison said the pair filmed their special appearance before he had even written the final episode - so what they said had to fit in with the rest of the storyline.

He added that Kylie and Jason, who appeared on the soap back in the 80s, didn't want their highly-anticipated return to Ramsay Street to 'overshadow' the show and it's latest cast members.

'Our discussions with Jason and Kylie were always about making a small appearance,' Herbison told TV Tonight.

'They didn't want to overshadow the current cast or make the finale about them. We also filmed their scenes before I'd written the episode, so whatever we filmed had to fit in with that.'

Neighbours fever has had an impact on the mid-week charts for a special couple.

Sadly, Angry Anderson didn’t make it.

However I don't think it's gone for good. I think it'll get revived in a few years time. :)

It’s been announced that it is coming back next year.

Amazon has announced that it is reviving the TV soap less than four months after its final episode aired.

UK viewers will be able to watch it on Amazon Freevee when new episodes are broadcast in 2023.

Interesting news and great news for longtime fans! It’ll be even more interesting to see how they pull it off. According to Takaya Honda (David), none of the cast bar those featured in the new promo knew about the show being revived. Which makes me wonder, how many of the “final” cast will come back? Honda himself said the final year would’ve been his last year regardless of the show’s cancellation. I’m sure there’s others that have moved on to pastures new too. Fingers crossed it doesn’t end up like A Country Practice Mark II. Another interesting point is that it’ll be back on Network 10 for the first time in 12 years (having been relegated to Eleven aka 10 Peach) back in 2011.

I always find it hard for a show to come back when it has a great finale where former cast members who became stars came home
This will be a bit of a sticking point with Neighbours considering they reunited Mike (Guy Pearce) and Jane in the finale and he moved back to Erinsborough. Will they have split in the intervening months, leaving Jane alone in Erinsborough? Will they both have left town? Will Aaron and David have split up or again, will they be written off as having left town? I’m sure fans are just glad to have the show back but there’ll likely be lots of finale stories being hastily reworked to accommodate actors who’ve moved on.

This latest news is a bigger and more unexpected twist than anything we saw in the scripts of the show.

Yes! Considering they must’ve shopped it around everywhere (including Amazon Freevee) after the cancellation was announced, it’s very surprising to see it picked up now on the supposed basis of strong fan reaction in the wake of the show ending.

Good grief. Is it possible for the worst cliff-hanger in television history be laid to rest? A survey posted on...

...asks. How should Neighbours return to storylines? One of the choices is "Susan wakes up and realises the finale was all a dream."

Clearly this is in reference to Pamela Ewing and Dallas. It's funny how one of the most heated topics here on tellytalk can find its way into any other series or topic of conversation.

Oh I don't know, I still think Charlene rescuing Helen Daniels from the mad kidnapping vicar by hitting him over the head with a shovel takes some beating.

I can't really see a downside to this - if any show is un-shark jumpable it's Neighbs.

I hope the finale stays real and doesn't turn out to be daydreaming, although it would be fitting for Jane to imagine what it would be like if Mike came back.

Do we already know how episodes will be released? An episode every weekday? 5 episodes every Monday? 20 episodes on the first of the month? Will there be seasons or is it thought to be endless?

I think the first three minutes will explain who moved away and why. Although I'd prefer to explain in each new episode why a certain person or couple or family no longer lives on Ramsey Street, viewers today are so impatient that there would likely be trouble if Charlene's whereabouts weren't explained immediately.

I would love it if Charlene, Scott, Mike and Jane had just left on a six-month cruise, and if Neighbours actually works on Freevee, news would arrive that the four felt so at home in a place in paradise that they decided to stay there - or if it should be more dramatic, the ship has sunk and the other three are missing except for Jane who returns home.

Fantastic news.

I knew it wouldn't stay dead for too long.

The show is so iconic and a part of our way of life.

I'm delighted that Amazon recognises just how good this show is.

Welcome home Neighbours. Enjoy the video. :)

I'm in two minds about the revival and I admit I don't watch it but I think this is a good opportunity for the producers to give it a reset. I think the characters of Susan and Karl should be central but I'd love to see this series move away from Ramsay Street. As Karl is a doctor he could move anywhere in Australia. I'd love to see the two characters either move to a small country town where there are plentiful Aussie larrikins or one of the beautiful small coast towns up and down the east coast of Australia. Personally I'd like to see Susan and Karl move to a quint country town and give this refreshed series that unique Aussie sense of flavour. If it's more of the same I won't watch.

But I'm guessing the crew are already removing the dust covers from the studio in Melbourne.

The volume of new Neighbours episodes is yet to be revealed since the bombshell announcement that the soap is returning.

Executive Producer Jason Herbison has referred to “a lot of new episodes” while actor Ryan Moloney told TV Tonight he was returning to full time work with the show.

Now UK site Digital Spy is suggesting a two year deal of 200 episodes each -this would amount to 5 episodes a week across the 40 week survey year, should it pan out as such…. but it could be stretched longer at 4 eps a week.

In Australia Network 10 retains first run rights with Prime Video a week later.

Unattributed sources told the publication, “The plan is for Neighbours to keep its format as a high-volume daily soap opera, so it’ll still be the show that fans know and love.

“Plans are being made for two new seasons, which will run for 200 episodes each. It’s an incredible result for fans, who thought they’d seen the last of the show when the finale aired in July.

“The logic for Freevee is that daily episode drops will keep fans checking back on the streaming service and engage with other content available.”

A spokesperson for Freevee declined to comment telling Digital Spy: “Amazon Freevee and Fremantle are in the early stages of planning the next chapter of the show.”

A spokesperson for Fremantle also declined to comment.
