Like Lana on THREE'S COMPANY, I assume something went on behind the scenes to cause the character to be written out, although I've never come across any reason. Possibly the network executives thought the character was too abrasive, although I suspect Penny Marshall and/or Cindy Williams didn't like being upstaged.

I did a simple Google search just to see if there was anything out there saying why the character was written off. I didn't see anything other than a few "Where Are They Now?" articles, but I didn't click on any of them.

In an interview last year, Carole said "the show went in a different direction and there went Rosie". Possibly she doesn't know the reason or she's being tactful about it four decades later.

I think Sada Thompson might qualify as being unjustly forgotten. She was tremendous on Family, but is rarely brought up these days.
