To add to Karin Schill's questions regarding your time in Tanzania ...

1. Did you visit Mt. Kilimanjaro?
2. Did you visit Zanzabar?

Tanzania must be a fascinating country. I just find other people's experiences very interesting and informative in their world travels.

Definitely not a morning person. I come alive at night and usually stay up late so I'm not too good in the morning. And I HATE to be woken up, especially if it's not for a good reason. The only one who is allowed to wake me up is my cat, who does so around 7.15 every morning, then I put him outside and go back to bed.

Do you read any magazines?

No. Not anymore. Most on my reading is done online now.

What's your favourite emoji?

This is the one I probably use most often:

How come you lived in Tanzania?

My dad got a job there managing a trade school. My two older sisters didn't go but my younger brother and I did and we went to school there. It was quite the adventure and certainly a drastic change from small town Ireland.

What did you learn from your years living there?

So many things. Apart from anything else it was the years from 14-17 which are very formative years. I learned a lot about wildlife as my parents lived in a village that was on the edge of a national park. But I suppose if I was to sum up what I took away from the experience it would be that there is a big wide world out there and I wanted to see as much of it as I could.

What do you work with?

I am trained as a yoga teacher, however my last job was teaching English. But I haven't been working for a while. Have faced some pretty major health issues in the last few years which I am still dealing with the aftermath of. So at the moment I'm on disability and not working.

Did you visit Mt. Kilimanjaro?

Yes, I did. I went to an international school which was in a town called Moshi which is at the foot of Kilimanjaro. So Kilimanjaro was my view on my way to school every morning. We went on a school trip where we climbed about two thirds of the way up and camped there. Tough going but a fantastic experience. It's all so long ago now though, I wish I could remember it better!

Did you visit Zanzabar?

Yes, I did visit Zanzibar. Again my memory of it is very hazy, but it's a beautiful place. Stunning beaches and very quaint narrow cobbled streets and old Arabic architecture. I remember giant tortoises and great snorkeling. And amazing seafood.

Yoga teacher huh... Do you do yoga often? At home? Do you have any specific music to it? What's your perfect yoga setting?

I'm not as disciplined as some yoga teachers, I don't wake up at the crack of dawn to practice for 2 hours. But I do yoga at home a few times a week. I go to the gym and swim too, so it depends what I'm in the mood for and what I have the energy for.

I didn't usually play music when I would teach classes but at home I often will put something relaxing on. I've recently been putting on the Spotify Indian Chill playlist which is lovely.

I guess the perfect setting would be on a cliff somewhere sunny overlooking the sea.

Hi Richard, thanks for answering my questions so far, I have a few more for you.
  1. How has living through the Covid-19 changed your life and do you think any of the changes will be permanent?
  2. If you could live the life of any character from the 1980s prime time soaps, who would you choose?
  3. What skill or ability have you always wanted to learn?

I'm very much the opposite (I'm one of those Benjamin Franklin types ["early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise," is how I remember hearing him having said that]).

How has living through the Covid-19 changed your life and do you think any of the changes will be permanent?

It hasn't changed my life as much as it has for some. I'm not working at the moment so haven't been affected in that sense. I am at home a lot of the time anyway and am someone who enjoys my own company, so I haven't found it as difficult mentally as a lot of people have. It was frustrating not being able to go to the gym but I tried to keep up my exercise by doing yoga at home. The hardest thing for me is seeing friends and family suffering and living in fear (something I refuse to do). My parents in particular, who are in their 70's, are very worried, but then they listen to and watch a steady flow of news all day (something else I refuse to do). So I guess what's affecting me most is how people I care about are being affected.

I hope these changes won't be permanent but I guess that all depends on how things pan out.

If you could live the life of any character from the 1980s prime time soaps, who would you choose?

Oh that's a tough one, cause most of them suffered so much! I love watching drama but wouldn't want my life to be filled with it. But if I have to pick someone I think I'll say Lance Cumson. Relatively speaking he didn't go through too many catastrophes and he was mostly fairly upbeat, got to live at Falcon Crest and drive around in beautiful cars.

What skill or ability have you always wanted to learn?

I would love to be able to surf, but never got round to learning. I don't know if I would have the balls to do wingsuit flying, but if I could have one super power it would be the ability to fly. I frequently have flying dreams and it's always disappointing to wake up and realize that actually I can't just take off at will. So I think wingsuit flying must be amazing, but it's also scary as hell!

Me too-- especially since generally all mine ever listen to is FOX "News".

I'm sorry to hear about your health issues. I hope you will get better soon @Richard Channing

I have a couple of more questions.

1) Have you ever been to a Yoga retreat in India?
2) If yes, what was that like?
3) What did you think of the Taj Mahal? (assuming you have visited that one)
4) How did you come up with the idea for your brilliant Dynasty 69 videos?

Thanks Karin. It's a work in progress, but I'm getting there.

Have you ever been to a Yoga retreat in India?

Yes, actually I did my teacher training in India. One month intensive and it certainly was intense! We did 4 hours of yoga a day with various classes in between. I did it in April which is the hottest month in that part of India and it was tough going. Morning yoga wasn't too bad, even though I did have to get up at something like 4.30 in the morning! But the afternoon was really hot and some days it was too hot to practice. Plus your body is aching in places you didn't know you had from so much yoga. But, the plus side is that when you're not exhausted you feel pretty amazing. It's hardcore but the benefits are worth it. They also usually had some great cultural stuff going on in the evening, some kind of music, dance or activity we could join in on. Also the food was really good, all vegetarian traditional Indian food. I did another shorter retreat in Rishikesh in a lovely ashram right on the Ganges. That was a lot more chilled out.

What did you think of the Taj Mahal? (assuming you have visited that one)

I've never been to the Taj Mahal. I would have like to have seen it though.

How did you come up with the idea for your brilliant Dynasty 69 videos?

Well I got the idea when I was going through movies with the actors looking for the perfect scene for each characters title cards (which is always difficult to find, clips of the actors standing still, not speaking, and looking fabulous). There were two scenes in particular that stood out to me as scenes that really could have been dialogue from the Dynasty in 1969 I had envisioned when making the credits. And I thought I just have to do something with these, and that's when I came up with the idea to make a trailer.

The one that really inspired me was the scene where John Forsyth angrily tells a woman in a fur coat and hat that 'There'll be no more charging, no cheques, no credit, do you understand?' and I just thought this is Blake and Alexis in 1969, it's just gotta be!! :D This was Blake cutting Alexis off for having returned to Denver and breaching their deal. Then the other clip was Joan Collins saying 'You'd like to cut me off from everyone, wouldn't you?" which complimented the other scene perfectly. Cut that with Blake saying '"And what are you? Joan of Arc??" and I started to feel I was on to something that I could build a whole trailer around. As the trailer started coming together I realized there was much more I could do, and more and more scenes started coming together, so I made another, and then another. I will definitely get round to the 4th and final one at some point.
