The male voice in movies is a different problem.
What really annoys the hell out of me is that groaning, husky, semi-whispering voice of the lead actors (usually the hero type).
Sometimes it totally works, like in a 60s Western movie or when that character is Barry White, but now they do it all.the.time. even when it doesn't make sense.
Especially if all the other characters are speaking in normal voices. We shouldn't even be able to hear that husky, whispering voice so clearly, and that's why I suspect those vocals are enhanced i.e. increased the volume to make it sound as if there's a conversation going on with vocals which are equal in volume, except that he doesn't talk he groans.
And that makes me so mad!

Which reminds me when a group of us visited California in 1998. It was a study tour and there were about 12 of us traveling together. When we visited this company they invited us to stay for lunch. So there we are, 12 Aussies speaking at 400 miles an hour and the poor tour guide did not have a clue what the hell we were talking about. She sat next to me while I interpreted the conversation. She later said it was one of the best days she had experienced at her workplace and really wanted all of us to visit her family that evening. Due to other commitments we couldn't. She desperately wanted her parents to meet some Aussies.
I liked the portrayals of Steven and of Joseph. Everyone else ---> PFFT!

I tried not to bring many expectations into watching, though from the little I saw in the previews, I felt Cristal would not be interesting or rootable. (Of course, she does not have to be a carbon copy of Linda Evans - I actually did not find Krystle fully rootable or likeable until Season 2 or 3, only a bit in Season 1.)
Surprisingly, I accept and like Cristal so far. There was not a lot of time/script? for it, but I saw some nuance in her performance in a couple scenes and felt where she was coming from. Though I am probably well in the minority with this viewpoint
Anyway, I will have to see what happens in episode 2. If I gave up on shows this early, I would never have continued with DALLAS or RIVERDALE or BEVERLY HILLS, 901210. Not that they bad Pilots in the least, but some early episodes were either boring or ridiculous IMO.

Grant Show is not a strong patriarch. When John Forsythe (Jim Davis on DALLAS was the best) was in the mansion, you knew who the boss of the scene was. Alan Dale is the strongest male actor on this show.

I'm not sure we're going to see a "strong" man or patriarch, one whose strength is determined in part by his refusal to defer to women.
