Season 6 - and Mickey Trotter and Ray

I just finished season 6 and found it to be the strongest of all the Dallas seasons so far (in my opinion). A fiery cliffhanger and the worry about Mickey Trotter.

The Mickey storyline really touched me. This is the kind of story that Dallas has really been missing. More human connection, less business dealings by "old white men." And I'm glad that Miss Ellie finds a new man in Clayton. I never really liked Jock.

On the other hand, I like Ray less and less. In my opinion, he's overly authoritarian and has been too strict with Mickey. Why didn't he and Donna let him live in their house?

If he wants to take care of him, then he should do it properly and not half-heartedly.

I hope Mickey survives the accident. He brings a great dynamic to the show. And his chemistry with Lucy is fantastic.

Season 6 is my favorite, and I loved Mickey storyline. He was a great addition to the show and was awesome with Lucy. I wanted a scene in NuDallas in which....spoilers below since you haven't finished the season:

I'm glad you enjoyed the Mickey storyline. I really liked Mickey and Lucy together too.
He was a good guy and he seemed to really understand and respect Lucy once he got to know her.

I think season 6 & 7 are the best seasons of the show. Dallas peaked here!

Ray bending Mickey over the pick-up truck and saying something about a horse was the most homoerotic moment in all of oldDALLAS, except of course for that giant bird on Kit Mainwaring's apartment wall.

It's been a while since I've seen these episodes, but I do remember really liking Mickey, and feeling quite sad that he was killed off. Even more so than Mitch, I feel like Mickey was the best guy for Lucy.

Bobby springs his trap on J.R., equalizing the two brothers in the race for Ewing Oil unless J.R. can neutralize the harm done to his Caribbean deal. Katherine offers to supply information to J.R. to help in their common rivalry with Cliff, as well as Bobby. Miss Ellie realises that Bobby and Pam's split might not be temporary. Lucy puts her trust in Mickey, making him understand the reason for her past coldness. The cartel is happy to see Cliff back on his feet, which is due largely to Pam and Mark. Bobby meets Mark in Pam's hotel suite and the confrontation leads to a further rift in his and Pam's marriage. Driscoll vows revenge on J.R., as does Holly, and J.R. faces the fact that they are but two on a long list.

I watched this episode yesterday and the scene between Lucy and Mickey is the stand-out in this. Lucy and Mickey go to a Hotel presumably to consummate their relationship however Lucy first has to divulge her heartbreaking secret as to why she was such a bitch to Mickey when he arrived at Southfork. The tenderness both share with each other is really sweet and when Charlene is allowed to relax and let the words from the script to just be told without any heightened acting it really works for her.

While the death of Mickey added to the drama I think it was short-sighted by the writers and producers not to keep Mickey around. Keep the car accident and have Mickey remain a paraplegic...a constant reminder to JR, Sue Ellen, Bobby and Ray that their actions has life-long consequences.​

I always felt like his relationship with Lucy felt forced, while the relationship between between Lucy and Mickey felt deeper and more natural. Probably due to the chemistry (or lack thereof) between Charlene and the actors.

with one of those strings you can pull to have him say one of a few phrases.. usually whining about money, not sure if he ever said anything else, really.

I mean… was Uncle Lenny just afraid of doing anything that would make Charlene have to actually act? She really wasn’t that bad at all when given the right material - see the Mickey storyline and Kit Mainwaring a few seasons prior.

Really, many disagree, but I thought she had a certain awkward verisimilitude in the miniseries that worked pretty well.. better than “spoiled blubbering teenager who wasn’t allowed to pick out a dress” or whatever she was relegated to for most of the ensuing seasons.

4’8” model who’s cute but not remotely ‘modelesque’ married to a guy who looks like he stepped out of a magazine ad for a watch or cologne or something?? Idiocy..

Yes, Mitch wasn't terribly well-conceived as a character; his story didn't develop too quickly, but it didn't develop at all. There was little nuance.

DALLAS' Lucy-acting just made her came off as neurosis -- so it mostly worked; much like DYNASTY's Alexis, whose unconvincing "vulnerability" acting was acceptable because it just read as Alexis manipulating disingenuously.

I always thought that, ironically, Charlene (who’d had like zero professional experience) and Jim Davis (who has about nine trillion credits on IMDB spanning several decades) were similar, in that they’d sound weirdly awkward and stilted and amateurish in “regular, everyday dialogue” — like the kid in elementary school who couldn’t read well enough to use proper expression when reading aloud in class… but give them the right material and they could be more convincing than a far more polished pro (BBG at times, for instance)

Dallas missed out on a big creative thing for Lucy, i.e. get her pregnant with Mickey's child. That would have sustained Lucy, creatively, for years on Dallas.
