Shows That Don't "Click" With You

Yes, 24 is very good! Of course it's getting worse through the years and reunion and reboot seasons are not really fun, but first five or six seasons are. i still can't believe why 24 didn't click with me when it debuted, that's why nowadays I try to give every (network) show a chance. For example I wasn't a fan of Elementary, but in later seasons I became one.

24 didn’t click with me at first either. I really didn’t start getting into it until about halfway through season 3. I would say it was still pretty good up until season 5 and then I start to lose interest.

I tried so hard to get into This Is Us. I watched the first season in it's entirety but when it came to the second season I couldn't bring myself to go through another 6 months of episodes overladen with too much schmaltz. So I never found out how the Milo Ventimiglia character died (he only appeared in the flashbacks) but I can imagine they dragged that out for several more seasons.

Milo V's This Is Us character death was revealed in the post Super Bowl episode back then. I won't spoiler for those who haven't watched yet, but he died as a hero, of course.

Thanks. How long did they drag it out for? Do you recall what season it was when he died?

It was episode 14 of season 2. By the way This Is Us never clicked with me, either, but I watch it anyway, because it's good in it's own way, it's just not my taste.

I've watched the first episode but it failed to intrigue me. It looks very dated but the real problem is that it is very dated, because of all the remarkable and crazy stuff that has happened in the real world after this first 24 story.
I suspect that part of 24's appeal was the slick, fresh and semi-topical political tone that mostly works in present time, and not 10 or 20 years later.
I'd constantly need to feign a level of ignorance in order to enjoy the modern excitement in the 24 story.
Then there's the concept itself. Even if I binged a complete season in one sitting I'd struggle to view it as a one-day-event.

It's probably better to limit myself to the 24 song.

Add me to the list not really liking This Is Us. Writing shows like this is a walk on a tightrope--it can either get too clever for its own good (where the writers are hamstrung by their planned-out story arcs and can't revise anything that isn't working), or it just becomes too "precious" (the aforementioned shmaltz). I can appreciate well-planned/timed story revelations and a good 'call-back', but this show takes it all too far. I know all shows like this want to manipulate the viewer into feeling certain emotions, but the manipulation just feels so overt that I end up reacting against it and feeling kind of...irritated.

there are just some shows that for me take ages to get into and sometimes that cause me to lose interest in certain shows

Well, they established their formula right from the pilot and they're sticking with it. I do find it clever and that makes it interesting to watch. I wouldn't say that I'm overly emotionally invested, though.

i've never seen it so i can't say how good or how bad it is to be fair but i dunno if i said this already my apologies if i have, but Modern Family i tried to watch that a few years ago and i thought it was dreadfully awful such an awful tv show that i never went back to it ever again. i have nothing really against the cast it's just the show i thought was awful but to each their own i tried watching it i didn't like it but many seem to love it i can't figure out the appeal to it but maybe i'm not suppose to in short to each their own who do like it i'm just not a fan hence i could not get into it like many seem to

Modern Family didn’t click with me either in the beginning, although I have to admit when I go back and watch it now I tend to enjoy it a lot more.

Modern Family

I must confess I haven't tried to watch this, and don't plan to try in the foreseeable, but it's reminded me of a few US sitcoms that haven't clicked with me.

Seinfeld
I think I could really like this but whenever I've attempted it I find that dreadful, quirky Nineties "boing boing" segue music really off-putting. I fear two hundred episodes' worth of boings might be detrimental to my wellbeing.

Frasier
I've heard good things, but it just fell flat with me when I tried watching a couple of times when it first aired. To be fair, I liked my sitcoms a lot broader at the time and so I haven't ruled out trying it again.

Everybody Loves Raymond
Admittedly, the title is a turn off. I appreciate it's probably about the character, but there's something I find a little egocentric about series which bear the name of their leading actor. Especially when it's a statement like this one. It brings out a perverse side of me that really, really doesn't want to even like Raymond, much less love him. I did attempt to watch an episode, but it happened to be an episode where people were either sneezing or talking about sneezing I'm usually quite indifferent to gross-out comedy (though not a fan). But anything involving phlegm or any kind of nasal expulsion affects me so much I can't even look at certain foods without wanting to heave. Needless to say, that was it for me and Raymond.
