I said on another thread how much I love this series even though it is basically just a re-working of the series House to which I was always indifferent.

What I didn't like though was how Shaun ended up with Lea as I thought his relationship with Carly was more interesting and realistic. Lea made it clear that she didn't want a relationship with him because of his autism whereas Carly just accepted him for who he was. Lea makes him seem more dependant whereas Carly allowed him to grow.

I think Carly is a more selfless person than Lea (who is basically just self-centered), but she would never really challenge Shaun outside his comfort zone--the things he mentioned Lea has done for him and helped him be more. Carly is the right person for him to fall in love with, but do we ever really fall in love with the right person?

I found it realistic that when it comes to emotions, even though he doesn't recognize them as other people can, he can still make the same mistakes and be victim to them like neurotypical people can. I am sure eventually there will be heartbreak there, but we all have been there.

That's very profound and very true.

This sounds mean but I hope they split up. I think he's burnt his bridges with Carly but the relationship with Lea annoys me as I just can't warm to them being together. I just found her comment that she couldn't be with in relationship with an autistic guy to be unforgiveable particularly as she has been leading him on since they first met.

Watching season 4 has been a frustrating experience because of the challenges they seem to be having filming during a pandemic. They only seem to be able to manage to put out a couple of episode before having to take a break before the next one can go out. No episode this week either: not sure whether it's covid related or because of Easter but either way they has been another gap in the screening schedule.

I love this scene in this week's episode. The way the staff of St Bonaventure came together to silently support Shaun while Lea was in surgery was very moving as was when Audrey and Shaun hugged after the surgery was a success. The series has gone off the boil for a long time now but it still occasionally manages to pull out a great episode every now and then.

As much as I loved this series in the past, the last few seasons have not been great. I think ending it now is the right decision. Hopefully, the final season will be a return to form.

I first started watching The Good Doctor because I was stuck at home alone during the first Covid lockdown and stuck with it until the bitter end. Its finale this week has to be up there with the best last episodes of any TV series. It also made me realise what originally made the series work and why it went off the boil in the final seasons.

Initially, The Good Doctor focussed on the relationship between Dr Glassman and Shaun but over time it morphed into being more about Shaun's relationship with Lea which was far less interesting.

A large part of the final episode was Shaun attempting to save Glassman before Shaun was made to understand he was really doing it for himself. In a final act of Glassman supporting Shaun, he makes the sacrifice to save Claire to prevent Shaun from ending his career.

The core of the series wasn't about an autistic man overcoming various obstacles to become a leading doctor but about the mutual love between Glassman and Shaun and that was the focus of the final episode which was why it was so successful.

As Shaun said about Dr Glassman during his Ted Talk in the flash forward at the end of the episode, "He didn't fix me, he loved me".
