The most unsatisfying /satisfying exits.

Ben's exit was very unsatisfying on Knots. I liked him and the actor a lot and what he brought to the show, but I understand Doug Sheehan felt he was always playing second fiddle to Val & Gary's storyline. Perhaps he should really have left with Cathy at the end of the previous year (season 7), but the producers tempted him to stay on another season by giving him his own big storyline.
The Jean Hackney plot was awful though and totally ruined his character. Having all that backstory suddenly added on was really silly, and his behavior to Val and Lilimae was horrible. It would have been nice for him to have come back for a bit to patch things up with Val, and maybe revealing he is dying from a strain of Mark Graison's incurable illness, or he'd slept with Laura and caught her brain tumor... Either that, or he could have been dramatically murdered by Jean in the end of season cliffhanger. Either way, he needed a bit more of an exit that just leaving and disappearing for good.
Having said that, his apparent 'return' was used effectively by Jill in the season 9 cliffhanger, so his exit wasn't totally wasted.
