Finally I've been able to caculate the results. It wasn't easy to do since 17 members have listed 223 tv-series over the past couple of months and many of the shows were new to me. So I've been using IMDB and Google to try to figure out which shows you mean when you haven't stated the years in brackets. The shows without years are shows that are named the same as some other show and I don't know which show you are referring to. Those members who find their favorites among the ones without years can feel free to tell me which show you were referring to. I apologize in advance for any errors in the results. If you find a show listed twice do tell me and I will fix it.

Anyway we have a result. Our top twenty favorite Tv-series are:

JR and Bobby often compete for their father's approval and both want to be president of Ewing Oil, which is the company their dad Jock founded in the 1930s. Columbo (1968-78)
Although I properly discovered Peter Falk's detective with the launch of the slightly more patchy revival series in the late Eighties, it's the original run on NBC that remains the most flawless jewel in the crown. A clever premise that turns the standard "whodunit" formula on its ear. And a very impressive revolving door of guest killers. Real quality.
I remember having a sleepless night as a child when I remembered Columbo in 1974 declaring that he had been on the force for 15 years and then in 1990 (the 1989-2003 run) stating that he had been on the force for twenty-two years. Maybe he had a break in between. I remember not being that keen on Last Salute to the Commodore from the 1970s run but that was the only 70s one I had a problem with. I do remember being troubled by the reference to Mrs Columbo and a water bed in Murder, Smoke and Shadows.

I can’t really have a top 20 but I think Public Eye (ABC/Thanes) starring Alfred Burke would be in it.
