The Bold and the Beautiful Watching The Bold and the Beautiful

No soap around the world got more repeated dialoges than B&B.
And that's killing the soap. Another recent watch and we had Brooke, Katie and Flo in the Forrester office. I honestly didn't think it still existed but there it was. But instead of working on something to justify their existence it was a repetitive conversation about Brooke's feeling towards Thomas. Okay love. We get it. You don't like the guy. They should have had Eric walk in, hand them some pencils and told to get to work.

Arrived home early from work (Friday) and flicked the telly on to catch the late afternoon NEWS. B&B was on. I haven't seen the character of Quinn for months and suddenly she is in bed with a character other than Eric? I might connect with this couple if there was some depth to the story but it sounds like the actors were called up last minute and told to jump into bed. And poor, poor Liam. Hyperventilating and over-acting another boring scene with the dithering heroine Hope.

This once must watch soap is listless.

Carter/Quinn had a little build-up. Two sad lonely souls talking about how lonely they feel. Eric hasn't touched Quinn since they reunited. He feels it's just a matter of time before she does something bad again. Carter feels lonely after breaking up with Zoe. Quinn was asked by Zoe to talk to Carter on her behalf. Quinn & Carter talked about Eric and Zoe. Both sad and missing intimacy. Sparks flew. They met up yet again and this time gave into the attraction. Promised it wouldn't happen again. But now they've had sex three times. And they can't get enough. It's the best storyline going on right now. They are hot together.

I just read again and again (elsewhere) how amazing Scott Clifton is as an actor. Is he really? If I would have to grade him for daytime acting, I'd give him a B, but there are others doing a better job. I don't like Liam's suffering scenes. To me it's not great acting, it's more like making a face and I dislike the fact that he's not crying. Tears suddenly appear on his face after a cut. Since he's won a few Emmys and is frontburner, I think Scott Clifton must be a great actor and I just don't realize it, but then he's not getting any jobs outside of daytime, not even a guest starring role on a CBS crime show, so he might be not so great after all.

I definitely don’t view him as an amazing actor but I don’t think he’s a bad one either. I’d put him somewhere in the middle. I think his performances range at times from really good to maybe just decent at best. But I enjoy the character and overall I think he does a good job of playing it.

I'd say he's B&B's best male actor. But that doesn't say much. B&B sadly lacks good actors. Clifton is the most animated and feels most natural when saying his lines. Matthew Atkinson is 2nd best, IMO. The rest are daytime soap mediocre. But none of B&B's current male actors will ever have a big career outside daytime.

If you want a career in primetime of movies these days, you cannot remain too long on daytime. 2 years to get acting practice in a semi big role (not too big though), then move on.

Cannot stand the actor or character. He hogs the screen and has ruined what was once "guilty viewing." I'd like to see all the Spencer family attend a function on a yacht when suddenly it springs a leak and everyone has to jump overbaord...only to be surrounded by sharks...and devoured.

Return this series back to its core, the Forrester family.

I never liked John McCook and Susan Flannery together. They were so far apart in quality when it comes to acting. When B&B started Susan Flannery felt like an outsider, because John McCook, Ronn Moss and Katherine Kelly Lang were in the same league in acting, while Susan obviously was not. Does anybody know if Susan was hired before the other actors joined? To me it always felt like John McCook might have been hired, because Bell couldn't get a better actor.

I've never liked how the producers and writers have treated the character over the years which is a great shame as I like John. Given some decent material his years of experience shines thru however I think most of his time especially after the departure of Stephanie is wasted. Eric should be playing the role of patriarch, a constant in B&B, not a token character to roll out on occasion.

Susan was definitely in a class by herself when it came to her acting ability on B&B. But I think that John, Katherine and Ron all held up pretty well in comparison.

I really can’t find anything on the subject of whether Susan was hired before the others. But I think her hiring was the best decision the people in charge ever made, as her acting abilities quite often carried the show.

Agreed! I don’t think Eric has ever been the same since Stephanie’s departure. And unfortunately the same can be said for Brooke and Ridge as well, and the entire show for that matter. Stephanie was just too much of a central character to take out IMO. It removed so much of the conflict out of the show.

I agree about the Spencers. I don't care for anyone of them. I also feel there are way too many Logans. They should get rid of at least Bill, Wyatt, Flo & Donna. Then bring back Thorne, Kristen, Felicia, Rick & Bridget. Build on the Forresters. Kristen already has her son Zende there.

They should have some of the Forresters (Thorne, Felicia, Thomas, Steffy) start a new company. A family fighting each other always create great drama. Thorne and Ridge have always been rivals - build on that!!!

I loved them together. Eric & Stephanie was my favourite couple, by far. They were at such ease with each other. I could so easily tell they they spent a lot of time together in his dressing room to discuss their scenes and be genuine friends and colleagues. John recently said that they always used to make sure there was some conflict in each scene in the background to make a scene more interesting rather than just filler. I imagine Susan liked to do that with all her scenes because she was obviously a thinking actress, analyzing the scenes and what they could be. Rather than just playing it. The writers sure aren't that good that their scripts are that deep!!!

So yes, B&B sure lost a lot in 2012. I know I lost interest. I didn't care enough about the remaining characters.

Regarding when they were cast. The Stephanie character was first going to be played by Susan Seaforth Hayes and be a minor character. One to just set up the story, then could pretty much just vanish or die. But she couldn't do B&B, so they had to find someone else. That's when Bill Bell thought of Susan Flannery who he had worked with in the 60s-70s on DAYS. He called her up for a meeting. She had at this time left acting to produce instead. Bill Bell managed to talk her into a year on this new half-hour soap. Susan agreed mainly because it was a half-hour soap, like DAYS was all those years ago. By this time, a lot of the other actors were already cast. And Stephanie became such a big character and they got Susan to want to stay.

B&B enjoys hypocrisy and it's kind of funny when Zoe is shocked that Carter slept with another woman, but Thomas non-stop talking about how someone could leave Vinny dead at the side of the road is too much. I was waiting for Bill to say: That's what you did with my best friend's niece, but nothing happened.

I'm assuming Susan wished to be let go. I really miss her character. Susan added spark and the other actors stepped up their game when they were in her presence which made B&B compelling viewing. Nowadays Brooke (Katherine) could phone in her performance.

Wyatt saying Thomas deserves prison for what he did to the Spencers was rich. He's engaged to Flo whose role in the baby scheme was much bigger. Hypocricy much?

Bill tried to kill a pregnant Amber and Ridge. He blew up a building. Yet Thomas and Vinny deserve prison and death?

Brooke slept with her daughter's husband and had his baby, yet Shauna is a slut.

Hope wanted Thomas in jail for his crimes, yet forgives Liam for everything and blames his bad deeds on Steffy, Thomas or Bill.

Brooke and Hope both pushed Thomas off a high height, nearly killing him, but they see nothing wrong with that.

B&B writers must get a kick out of writing in major hypocricy.

This week is more balanced in writing, but last week it was only Vinnie Murder Mystery in all five episodes. Two weeks ago every episode featured Quarter. Last week B&B lost 153,000 viewers compared to week before, which means this Vinnie Murder Mystery is not everyone's cup of tea.

I don't like that Shauna is treated like the biggest slut ever by everyone who doesn't know the truth, even her daughter seemed shocked. When it comes to slutty behavior by mothers both Bridget and Hope had reason to be shocked, but Shauna had just (supposedly) slept with a man who ended his relationship after his finance wanted to trade him for a Forrester man. I was looking for Quarter storyline, but since Paris is involved, I'm losing interest.

What about the pronuncation of the name Vinny Walker? It always seems strange, when his full name is said, it reminds me on The Walking Dead.
