Chappaquidick (2018)
I'd read a fair bit about the incident over the years, so there were no big surprises. Still, there's something about seeing it acted out that gets the information across in a different way, particularly with reference to others who were involved. Kennedy Cousin Joe Gargan and Paul Markham most of all. I hadn't really been that conscious of them before watching, despite seeing their names crop up occasionally.
The film led me into a bit of a Google wormhole, reading about the Kennedy family, and I was very moved by reading about poor Rosemary's tragic life, made worse by the choices of her tyrannical father. Just shocking.
Serendipitously, a very young Ted Kennedy appeared in an episode of Brass I watched this evening, extorting a pound from Morris Hardacre. He was warned that his behaviour was going to get him into trouble, and Morris called over a friend whom he ordered to "Give the chap a quid, Dick.".

Star Trek Beyond (2016)
The most recent of the so-called Kelvin Universe films.
I thought the first one was clever, more sequel than truly the prequel it was supposed to be, with Leonard Nimoy's Spock-prime there to legitimise proceedings. The second one was a disappointment. I had no real desire to follow this iteration of the characters in any case and the fact that it was only a twisted remake of Wrath of Khan didn't help.
This one falls somewhere in between. The actors seem to have grown into the roles and the plot is at least somewhat original, a more or less standalone episode in the tradition of The Final Frontier. One might question, though, whether it's really Star Trek at all, or Star Wars in Trek clothing.

10 Cloverfield Lane (2016)
Not a film I would have chosen to watch ordinarily, but someone told me they thought I'd enjoy it. And I did. Very much.
It helped that I went into it blind. No trailers or film clips. I couldn't even recall the poster. So I had no preconception of what the genre should be. Which turned out to be the only way to fully appreciate this film, which doesn't really fit neatly into any kind of box. Having watched the trailer since the film ended, I'm just so relieved that I hadn't seen it beforehand. It would have diluted the experience drastically.

A horror movie with an upbeat, jazzy soundtrack (and Caress Morell is in it, too). I found it very enjoyable.

Quite a few:
- "Glass". Finally, Mr. Night delivered something really good to the genre (again). Much better than "Unbreakable" by the way. James McAvoy deserved an Oscar nod.
- "Gattaca". I had forgotten everything about it and was mesmerized by it. And by how pretty Jude Law looked 20 years ago.
- "Nina". Not as bad as people say, Saldana is very competent here. The script needed a rewriting very badly. As a white man, I don´t quite get the backlash for the fact that Saldana looks "whiter" than Simone though...
- "The Walk". Fine in every sense. My favorite Robert Zemeckis movie, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt gives just another amazing performance. I have to see the documentary on the subject now. Here below is the trailer, beware if the image of Twin Towers scare you...or if you have vertigo...
