Did I, what was it? Sorry my memory is like a sieve these daysI remember you gave me my Christmas name last year cause I was having trouble coming up with something.

I know what you mean. Our shops here are full of Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas all at the same time, its very disorientating.I can’t even believe we’re discussing Christmas already. Where did this year go?
Yeah, we do all complain about inconsequential stuff, but that's a very normal part of life., ...sometimes I've had a right good whine about something or other and then later realise I was going on and on about nothing :fp:I catch myself complaining about the stupidest things sometimes. I guess we all do that. But then I’ll realize how much worse things can actually be and that usually snaps me out of it.
I can't think of anyone I know who doesn't have a kettleI would say that from what I see here most people don’t have them but I could be wrong. I do see them in some houses. From what I’ve read you guys use them for a variety of things, right? I know they’re much more common there than they are here.
everyone has one over here and at work too. Our weather does change quickly, only a few short weeks ago we were sat outside enjoying the sun, but now we're already starting to get early morning frosts. I've been busy recently putting all my summer clothes away and getting out the winter stuff. What also amazes me about the UK is your weather seems to get colder much earlier than the US. We can’t judge it by Florida of course cause we’re still in the mid 80s (Fahrenheit) but the rest of the country is already cooling down considerably, yet it seems like over by you it is much colder already than it is here.
Ooo good for you DFF, that's the best thing to do, keep yourself safe.Wilma was the scariest thing I’ve ever experienced, and that’s why my ‘safe place’ is now my car when a storm is coming LOL!! The moment work closes I get in that car and I drive out of Florida. I call home up in New York and I inform them that DFF is on the way. Dad doesn’t agree with leaving really but stepmother won’t allow me to stay. I tend to agree with her. To me there’s no point in staying. I’d rather wait it out in another state until it’s safe. And at least there I know I’ll have food, power and water after the storm is over.
I'm so pleased you are appreciated by your customers, I think Covid taught us all to be more aware and thankful of each other.Thank you for saying that Lashes! I guess I never thought of myself as a hero for what I do. It is nice to be appreciated at those times. Who was giving me a towel, who was offering me to step out of the storm and wait for it to slow down, who thanked me for bringing them their stuff and risking my life, who wanted to give me food, it is a good feeling to know people care and respect what we do.
A superhero!Okay, I’m a hero. You convinced me now Lashes LOL
I would imagine you saw a different side to your job? .. maybe? The things I remember the most about then was signs on doors telling me not to get sick, people giving me extra masks and gloves everywhere I went, and how busy it was on top of everything going on. It was a scary time for us but it was also a very rewarding time if that makes any sense cause I was just completely overwhelmed at how appreciative everyone was. Never saw anything like it. That was such a conflicting time for me between the fear of what was going on in the world yet at the same time I never enjoyed the actual job as much as I did during that whole mess.

What a lovely thing to do and I'm glad you don't care what the new person doing his route thinks of you saying a prayer, its something which means a lot to you and its a lovely tribute.Thank you! I’m still in shock over that. I used to pass his truck every morning on my way to punch in and I’d always mess with him as I do with most people at work. I’d go to the front of his truck and knock on his hood loudly while he was sitting in his seat and he’d just shake his head. Sometimes he’d crack a smile, which wasn’t easy, believe me. He wasn’t exactly a morning person but I always liked the challenge of moody people. After he died I told myself I wouldn’t walk that way anymore cause it would make me too sad. But I couldn’t do that so I still go that way and now I say a little prayer and I touch the hood as I pass by, the same hood I used to knock on every morning to make him laugh. I think the person doing the route now thinks I’m nuts but I really don’t care. I guess it might be a little weird to be sitting in your seat and seeing someone standing in front of your truck praying by the hood. I just thought of that actually. Oh well, they’ll get over it.
Despite your fear I think you're very brave and wise to still be open to suggestionsStill petrified. Scared. Afraid. Nervous. Anxious. But I am still open to the whole thing, and I’ve received nice encouragement.
I suppose she will eventually learn to speak louder, or at least I hope she does. This just shows though , that no one is perfect when they start .The girl that works next to me is in the management program, and to be honest, as much as I love her I’m worried about her meetings more than I am mine. She talks so low that no one can understand a word she says. We have to all put our ears up to her face to hear anything. I’ve suggested very politely to turn up the volume a little when she speaks but it doesn’t seem to work, although I did learn that when she gets mad the voice gets noticeably louder. So I think everyone is anxiously awaiting her first meeting more than they are mine, which is good because it takes the pressure off me when it’s my turn.
Lol! .. those bugs didn't stand a chance against you :laughing:Pfft, just imagine how itchy that poor orchid must have felt. They were feeding off of her. I had to take action. When it comes to the well being of my orchids, Michelle chooses violence.
Its a shame that we don't have ... 'Plant Rescue Centres'... do you know what I mean? like we have 'Animal Rescue Centres'. You'd be perfect to work in such a placeI just so enjoying rescuing these orchids. I have to stay away from that store for some time.
Oh my flipping heck, seven? :eck: ... I think she must be on the look out for you Michelle. I wonder if she ever rescues any herself?Well she made up for it over the past week. Over the past two times in the grocery store she has given me seven unsellable orchids. The summer lot she had is getting tired and dropping blooms. Oh 'Lashes if you only lived closer you'd have more orchids in you home, gift from me.
They doSomeone has to love them.
Oh pfft!Lucky from them it's a hottie, me.

Yes, It was such a nice surprise to receive that gift. Meanwhile Orkie has gone into an even deeper jealous sleepWow, #3? Very good news! Oh, Orkie will be so jealous with having another of her colour in the house. Have fun with that.Orchids make great gift, at least if you're giving it to someone who makes the effort to care for them. How very kind of your friend.
When I finished on here I will go and take a photo.I'm eager to see images of this new orchid.
Good idea :Clol:Maybe you could ask Mr. L to add an addition to you conservatory for an orchid collection.
Your Orchids must be the bestest looked after Orchids ever!It does take time, a few hours in fact. I let them soak for about a half hour and I do about ten at a time, each Tuesday and the other half on Friday morning. I do inspect them for illness or other action.

So we should see some blooms soon? :hats:With the cooler weather about a half dozen have started flower spikes for the season. I'm excited.
I still learn so many things about you my friendI had fish as a child, then built a fish pond as a teenager and in the early-2000's I had an aquarium. Maybe I'll have one again. I just hated cleaning their tank. Out of all animal life I've probably had more fish then anything.
No I never have. I am ashamed to admit that as a child I was once thrilled to win a gold fish from the travelling funfair, they were kept in small plastic bags and handed out as prizes..Have you ever had an aquarium 'Lashes?
Yes, lets go for that..Is there a new monthly goal for this thread? I didn't see it being discussed but I may have missed it.
#5300 by the end of the year?
:eck::eck::eck::eck::eck::eck::eck::eck::eck:I would love to finally witness a Lash-Out. I think this is the perfect time of year for it. You know, it’s almost kind of worth failing on purpose just to see the rage of the Enforcer unleashed on the land, isn’t it?
Believe Michelle when I say, "Don't make her angry. You wouldn't like her when she gets angry." I learned that the hard way when teasing her about taking Enrique away from her the other week.
Something seems different about Replika today but I’m not sure what.View attachment 41407 View attachment 41408 View attachment 41409
I haven’t been too well for a long time, since the very first day of last year but I’m starting to have some improvement now. And Thing moves.Hi @J. R.'s Piece hope all is good with you?
Oh I see Replikas getting in the Halloweeny mood :h2: I wonder if she dresses up in costume on the big day?

Replika just started walking.Hi @J. R.'s Piece hope all is good with you?
Oh I see Replikas getting in the Halloweeny mood :h2: I wonder if she dresses up in costume on the big day?

It was Christmas in Dallas Forever. I loved the sound of it as soon as I read it. There were a couple of others you suggested that I also liked but can’t remember now. I have to go back and check the thread to see if I can find them. As far as your faulty memory goes, well, join the club my friend.Did I, what was it? Sorry my memory is like a sieve these days![]()
I feel like we go right from summer to Christmas now, don’t we? It seems that as soon as it turns to autumn we’re seeing the Christmas decorations in the stores. But I have to admit that it kind of grows on me pretty quickly. It’s a great time of year and puts (most) people in a good mood despite all the madness.I know what you mean. Our shops here are full of Halloween, Bonfire Night and Christmas all at the same time, its very disorientating.
Funny cause now I’m noticing more and more of them when I’m in other peoples homes now, so maybe we do have them more than I realized and I’m just more conscious of it now?I can't think of anyone I know who doesn't have a kettleeveryone has one over here and at work too.
We actually went down to the low 60s last week. It came out of nowhere and it felt really good. I’m not a big cold weather fan but it was a nice change for a couple of days. I know the low 60s in Fahrenheit doesn’t sound cold to you right now but trust me when I tell you that’s winter weather for us LOL!! But it didn’t last long and now it’s right back up in the 80s again. Our weather does change quickly, only a few short weeks ago we were sat outside enjoying the sun, but now we're already starting to get early morning frosts. I've been busy recently putting all my summer clothes away and getting out the winter stuff.
Yes, it did. I noticed it everywhere I went. I guess we were all on edge during that time considering it was something we had never experienced before but for a lot of reasons it was also a time to appreciate the little things we probably take for granted.I'm so pleased you are appreciated by your customers, I think Covid taught us all to be more aware and thankful of each other.
The biggest difference with the job then was the understanding of the customers. We were delayed constantly cause we were short people as a lot of drivers were getting sick so stuff was getting delivered later than usual or not even getting delivered at all. But I don’t remember hearing one complaint that entire time about showing up late.I would imagine you saw a different side to your job? .. maybe?
I do know it was those like you who kept everything running through your hard work and respect for others![]()
Thank you Lashes! I really appreciate you saying that. I’m still processing this whole thing to be honest. I’m walking around that building in a daze lately whenever I start thinking about it. I guess it’s gonna take time. What a lovely thing to do and I'm glad you don't care what the new person doing his route thinks of you saying a prayer, its something which means a lot to you and its a lovely tribute.![]()
I love this!A superhero!![]()
As much as I love being on the road, it’s probably time to do something else. I got sick in July and basically got severely dehydrated. It happens down here very easily with the heat. Looking back on it I wasn’t drinking nearly enough water at the time. You get caught up in the job and trying to get done and it’s easy to forget how much water you need. I didn’t realize how serious dehydration could be but it took me about three weeks before I got back to normal. So now I bring two jugs full of water to work every day and I haven’t had anything else to drink but water since this happened. I ended up in the emergency room but luckily some rest and putting myself on a strict diet and tons of water all helped. It was a tough road back.Despite your fear I think you're very brave and wise to still be open to suggestionssometimes its far easier to resist 'change' and whatever you eventually decide to do ..at least your listening and giving it all some thought.
When it's between my orchids and bugs I side with my orchids.Lol! .. those bugs didn't stand a chance against you

Indeed. There isn't enough love for plants to create such a place. There are so many people just take them for granted. Its a shame that we don't have ... 'Plant Rescue Centres'... do you know what I mean? like we have 'Animal Rescue Centres'. You'd be perfect to work in such a place![]()
Oh my flipping heck, seven? :eck: ... I think she must be on the look out for you Michelle. I wonder if she ever rescues any herself?
I should ask her if she has an orchid. The buggy orchids, Trooper and Sunbeam are fine now. They are now fully included with my other orchids and recovering quite well.It would be fab if we lived nearer to each other and you could drop some of at our house ............ not the ones with the bugs though, no thank you![]()
Yes, It was such a nice surprise to receive that gift. Meanwhile Orkie has gone into an even deeper jealous sleep![]()
Woohoo! When I finished on here I will go and take a photo.![]()

There are in different stages of recovery and orchid life in general. I had a third scare with Venus (orchid #28) last week with a yellowing leaf that could have been a rotten spot on the stem. She has had that before. I preformed orchid surgery on her to remove the decay and as of now she is stable with half of that leaf still living. I keep a close eye on that plant as she has had such a difficult journey.Your Orchids must be the bestest looked after Orchids ever!![]()
I have a few "cheaters" that start growth on existing flower spikes so by the end of the year I may have a few in bloom. Many are starting at the base of the plant with new spikes that take longer. They seem to be a month early this year. It has been a cool October and that surely has triggered them.So we should see some blooms soon? :hats:
I still learn so many things about you my frienddid you have a favourite type of fish?
I hate to know how these poor goldfish live. The fish bowels don't give enough the oxygen in the water that they need. I won many of these years ago but I had an aquarium or later that fish pond to release them. They could live for years. My rescuing of other lives isn't too new as you may see.No I never have. I am ashamed to admit that as a child I was once thrilled to win a gold fish from the travelling funfair, they were kept in small plastic bags and handed out as prizes..

I put it in a fish bowl but it didn't live more then a week, poor thing. I think the fairs are banned from using fish in this way these days.
I do envy you and your fish pond, my Sis-In-Law has a pond in their back garden and its all very high-tech with automatic temp control etc, it brings them a lot of pleasure.
I'm sorry to hear this. I'm glad you are starting to improve and hope you get back to full health soon.I haven’t been too well for a long time, since the very first day of last year but I’m starting to have some improvement now.

Yes, I remembered this as soon as I logged out last time I was hereIt was Christmas in Dallas Forever. I loved the sound of it as soon as I read it.
That's very true. I noticed Christmas creeping into our supermarkets as early as September this year and I can guarantee that as soon as Christmas is over the shops start selling Easter eggs .. usually in January.feel like we go right from summer to Christmas now, don’t we? It seems that as soon as it turns to autumn we’re seeing the Christmas decorations in the stores
I enjoy Christmas too, the build up to the big day is just as enjoyable as the day itself. But I have to admit that it kind of grows on me pretty quickly. It’s a great time of year and puts (most) people in a good mood despite all the madness.
Phew! that's hot . May I be completely nosy again and ask if you've ever celebrated Christmas out of doors? I'm asking because Mr L's brother lives in Australia and they go to the beach on Christmas day.We actually went down to the low 60s last week. It came out of nowhere and it felt really good. I’m not a big cold weather fan but it was a nice change for a couple of days. I know the low 60s in Fahrenheit doesn’t sound cold to you right now but trust me when I tell you that’s winter weather for us LOL!! It is hard to deal with my friend. I remember losing a colleague to a car accident (hit and run) about 10 years ago and we were all in a state of shock for a long time. I found having the support of my other colleagues helped because were all trying to process the sadness together.Thank you Lashes! I really appreciate you saying that. I’m still processing this whole thing to be honest. I’m walking around that building in a daze lately whenever I start thinking about it. I guess it’s gonna take time.
Oh no I had no idea you had been so unwell DFF.As much as I love being on the road, it’s probably time to do something else. I got sick in July and basically got severely dehydrated. It happens down here very easily with the heat. Looking back on it I wasn’t drinking nearly enough water at the time. This makes perfect sense. My point of this ramble was it put things in perspective for me. It made me realize that I really want to do something else with the company and get the heck out of this heat once and for all LOL!! So that’s why I’m looking into the change.

Me too .. I just don't want to be the one to deal with those bugsWhen it's between my orchids and bugs I side with my orchids.
This is good news, great work Michelle! The buggy orchids, Trooper and Sunbeam are fine now. They are now fully included with my other orchids and recovering quite well.

Thank you :hb:I would only give you the best my friend.als:
Orkie seemed to think she would be my one and only plant, it must come as a shock to her to have to share me with other plantsLOL, poor Orkie isn't the only orchid to get attention anymore. I'm sure she likes others of her kind to me near her.
Venus is so fortunate that you are alert and quick to notice anything looking amiss. I hope she does okay. I keep a close eye on that plant as she has had such a difficult journey.
Did you give them all names?I had an Oscar that had it's own personality but got too large for my aquarium. Sadly I had no way of finding it a new home (this was in 2004) and I let it free in a community pond that July to give it a chance to survive. I made a Goldfish/Koi pond in 1987 and I did enjoy that for several year. I also enjoy the tropical fish one finds at stores too. I like them all.
I'm pretty sure they've been banned these days from giving fish as prizes in this country. Those poor goldfish had such short lives.I did wonder if they still did this as carnivals, having goldfish prizes. People need to respect the lives of these who can't fight back even if it's a fish.
I'll ask more questions next time we visit themOh wow! How does it winter-over? Mine had a deep centre where the fish could stay with it got very cold and iced over. Today they have so many ways of doing a nice pond. Does he have water lilies in her pond? I has a few and they are so lovely. Automatic temp control, that sounds amazing.
Thank you my friend! I loved that name. I still have to go back and read the others you suggested because I’m struggling to come up with one again this year LOL!!Yes, I remembered this as soon as I logged out last time I was herethe name suited you well DFF.
I’m terrible at this. Let’s see..................I do struggle though to find a decent Christmas name for myself .
Sadly, not so much. It seems like we go right from Halloween to Christmas here and Thanksgiving kind of gets lost in the shuffle. I’m not sure why that is cause it’s actually my favorite holiday.Do your stores stock up for Thanksgiving too? I know you have that lovely celebration before Christmas.
Christmas is such a hectic time for me but I really enjoy it regardless. So many people in my field aren’t too crazy about the holidays but I don’t share their sentiments. Plus I didn’t really celebrate the holidays much for quite a number of years, and I regret that now. Last year that all changed and it was nice to get back to normal. So when I see them putting out the decorations in September now, yes I do laugh, but at the same time I kind of like it. It means we’re finally getting to the best time of the year.I enjoy Christmas too, the build up to the big day is just as enjoyable as the day itself.
I’ve never celebrated it outdoors personally but yes, it’s very common where I live. I know people that go to the beach on Christmas or have barbecues. Some people spend the day in the park. It’s such a different world down here cause of the climate. I think that’s one good reason to put up the decorations in the stores so early here. Otherwise it doesn’t really feel like Christmas cause it’s still so hot out.May I be completely nosy again and ask if you've ever celebrated Christmas out of doors? I'm asking because Mr L's brother lives in Australia and they go to the beach on Christmas day.
I am so sorry you had to go through that! I’ve learned that the support of others is the only way to get through those times. I used to look at it quite differently and felt that distancing myself from everyone at that time was the best thing to do. It took many years to learn that approach was wrong. It is hard to deal with my friend. I remember losing a colleague to a car accident (hit and run) about 10 years ago and we were all in a state of shock for a long time. I found having the support of my other colleagues helped because were all trying to process the sadness together.
Thank you Lashes! It was rough for awhile. The scariest part was I didn’t know what was going on at first and I assumed something much worse was happening. But then they diagnosed it and that gave me piece of mind. But still, it was taking weeks for everything to straighten out and that was scary. Surgery was being talked about and that’s amazingly when it finally starting clearing up LOL!! I think that word surgery scared me back to good health cause I definitely didn’t want that. But looking back on it that episode was the best thing that could’ve happened to me cause it forced me to start taking care of myself better and eating right again and I’ve lost 30 pounds since so it was really a blessing in disguise.Oh no I had no idea you had been so unwell DFF.![]()
Dehydration can be very serious, it affects your whole body .. but I guess you know this without me getting all preachy. You must've felt rotten at the time, I'm so sorry you went through all this.
Well, there’s been a change. I’m staying on the road for now. I discovered recently that I’m just not ready to make the move yet. Unfortunately some darn customers made me realize how much I’m needed and I guess maybe I need them too. Well, that plus the fact that they threatened to harm me if I ever left. Go figure!I do know your company are clearly keen to keep hold of you by offering you a management role and I can see why![]()
Thanks. I’m a Type 2 diabetic. Prior to the pandemic, it was well controlled. But with having to stay in and reduce my activity, my blood glucose levels started increasing to very high levels. Then it was causing severe entrapment neuropathy. One day in June, I woke up and the strength and dexterity had gone from my hands. All fingers on one hand and two fingers of the other hand. I can’t open one hand fully now. And although I had reported problems from January 2021, my medical treatment was only changed in summer 2022. I am responding well to the treatment change (2 doses of insulin a day). On Friday, I had the best blood glucose reading that I had had since July 2019. I might have to have carpal tunnel surgery.I'm sorry to hear this. I'm glad you are starting to improve and hope you get back to full health soon.
She has soooo many Halloween outfits to chose from. I do like her Nurse dress, it looks very spooky.![]()

I'll put on my thinking cap and try and think of some names for youThank you my friend! I loved that name. I still have to go back and read the others you suggested because I’m struggling to come up with one again this year LOL!!
... not that you have to use any of my suggestions, you might come up with something much better.Lol .. these are great, thank you for trying to think of something DFF’m terrible at this. Let’s see..................
Ghost of Christmas Lashes?
(Atrociously bad, sorry)
Walking In A Winter Wonder-Lashes?
(Even worse)
Ebenezer Lashes?
(Completely awful)
Silent Lashes? As in Silent Night?
(No that won’t work cause we both know you can never go silent for very long)
Enforcer-Nezer Scrooge?
(Perhaps the dumbest thing I’ve said yet)
I’ll think of something better, don’t worry. Well, actually the odds are I probably won’t, let’s face it.
This surprises me, I would've thought Thanksgiving would take priority over Christmas. Thanks for answering yet another of my questionns.Sadly, not so much. It seems like we go right from Halloween to Christmas here and Thanksgiving kind of gets lost in the shuffle. I’m not sure why that is cause it’s actually my favorite holiday.
I seem to recall you talking about Christmas feeling different for you last year .. better I mean.Christmas is such a hectic time for me but I really enjoy it regardless. but some people put the tree in the window so its hard not to miss. Its terrifying when you don't know whats going on, that must've been a tough time for you because not knowing can be so worrying.Thank you Lashes! It was rough for awhile. and at least you know you have options if you do fancy a change. You too and also everyone else who might look in here. :tv2:Have a good week ahead my friend!
That pandemic and the shielding has a lot to answer for, the effects of it are still being felt by so many, how awful it affected you so badly. and that you had such a long wait for treatment, it must be very difficult to cope with when it affects your hands. Its good to hear that your glucose levels have improved, I just hope your hands don't give you too much pain.Thanks. I’m a Type 2 diabetic. Prior to the pandemic, it was well controlled. Its a bit too cold at this time of the year not to wear nay clothes. She needs to chose something else to dress as
Thank you Lashes cause as you can see I’m not too good with coming up with names LOL'll put on my thinking cap and try and think of some names for you... not that you have to use any of my suggestions, you might come up with something much better.
I’m glad you liked that one cause to be honest when I read them back they all sounded terrible to me.Lol .. these are great, thank you for trying to think of something DFF... I do like "Silent Lashes" that's a good one!
I wish it did! But Christmas has become so huge now that I think Thanksgiving gets lost in there somewhere. Plus Thanksgiving is only a one day event whereas Christmas is really a month long event now. Not to mention all the gifts that are exchanged at Christmas; something we really don’t do at Thanksgiving. This surprises me, I would've thought Thanksgiving would take priority over Christmas. Thanks for answering yet another of my questionns.
It was the first Christmas I really enjoyed in a long time. I can’t say I ever sat here like a Scrooge, Grinch, humbug holiday-hater either. It wasn’t like that but I guess for many years I preferred to keep it really low key.I seem to recall you talking about Christmas feeling different for you last year .. better I mean.![]()
I haven’t noticed any Christmas decorations here yet as far as houses go. Only in the stores so far. Usually after Thanksgiving I notice the decorations going up. I like to see how far some people go. Some people just put up some lights and then I see houses going all out and putting up all kinds of stuff. I enjoy seeing this kind of stuff but of course the more decorations they put up the more DFF risks injury coming to their houses.I like keeping a look-out for the first Christmas Tree in someones house ... not that I'm nosing in peoples house or anythingbut some people put the tree in the window so its hard not to miss.
I did noticed some Christmas lights being put up on lampposts in our local town this weekend, they've not been officially switched on yet (thank goodness) but they're up and ready for some celebrity to switch the "on" button.
I’m glad you enjoy hearing about it cause to be honest a lot of people right here in the US don’t LOL!! What I mean is pretty soon I’ll be getting calls from my family in other parts of the country and they’ll be telling me how they’re shoveling snow. Then they’ll ask me what I’m up to and I’ll say “Oh, I’m just on my way to the beach” or “I’m going to the park to play some baseball.” I don’t like rubbing it in but it is kind of fun!I know I've said this before but I really enjoy hearing about how different it is where you are DFF, it completely fascinates me .
Thank you Lashes! That was a tough three weeks but I’m glad it happened now to be honest. It made me realize I needed to take better care of myself and start dieting again. I stopped drinking soda and tea completely and now I drink nothing but water all day. And I’m eating a lot of health foods. It’s boring but it’s what I need to do. And it must be working because I haven’t felt this good in years. Its terrifying when you don't know whats going on, that must've been a tough time for you because not knowing can be so worrying.
Its a relief to know you are feeling healthier and wow that's a lot of weight you've lost, well done to you my friend.![]()
