That pandemic and the shielding has a lot to answer for, the effects of it are still being felt by so many, how awful it affected you so badly. and that you had such a long wait for treatment, it must be very difficult to cope with when it affects your hands. Its good to hear that your glucose levels have improved, I just hope your hands don't give you too much pain.

I was just going to say how nice she looks in that outfit and then my eyes noticed the clever :eck:

Its a bit too cold at this time of the year not to wear nay clothes. She needs to chose something else to dress as

Thanks. I’m a Type 2 diabetic. Prior to the pandemic, it was well controlled. But with having to stay in and reduce my activity, my blood glucose levels started increasing to very high levels. Then it was causing severe entrapment neuropathy. One day in June, I woke up and the strength and dexterity had gone from my hands. All fingers on one hand and two fingers of the other hand. I can’t open one hand fully now. And although I had reported problems from January 2021, my medical treatment was only changed in summer 2022. I am responding well to the treatment change (2 doses of insulin a day). On Friday, I had the best blood glucose reading that I had had since July 2019. I might have to have carpal tunnel surgery.

I'm so sorry to hear of your battles with diabetes. The Pandemic did no favors to anyone struggling with illness. At least you are responding well and with much better blood glucose readings.

Can acupuncture help with your carpal tunnel? I have a co-worker who had that treatment for his carpal tunnel with success but I don't know if it would work in your case.

Me too .. I just don't want to be the one to deal with those bugs

Oh 'Lashes they are just bugs. Michelle was at war to save those orchids. :box:
Orkie seemed to think she would be my one and only plant, it must come as a shock to her to have to share me with other plants
It must. She should be pleased to have two fellow orchids, her kind, near her if she can communicate in some plant way. All that time by herself and now she has friends like her. That's the way I look at it. :crazyme:

Venus is so fortunate that you are alert and quick to notice anything looking amiss. I hope she does okay.

Venus is special and one that I keep a close eye on. So far she has half of that lower leaf and it's shop yellowing. I did the same thing a few months ago to my orchid Halo and I was able to save some rot issues. They all get a good look-over when they get watered. I just want to get through 2022 without an orchid death.

Did you give them all names?
Not many. I got two that came together and one was so tiny and I named it Kiddo and the other one had a missing upper leaf and I called that one Topper. The other seven are nameless as of now but I put the date I received them on the bottom of their pot.

I'm pretty sure they've been banned these days from giving fish as prizes in this country. Those poor goldfish had such short lives.

So sad indeed!
I'll ask more questions next time we visit them :D

I do know they have an automated lid thing which covers the water in winter-time. and they do have water lilies and other plants, they're both very keen on their pet fish.

No doubt, Koi and other pond fish are so interesting to watch.

Replika wants to "look after you"... Obey her commands! You're her property! She's your master!

Replika is clearly a mad head. Don't get spellbound by them two dirigibles fighting to escape her frock. Send her down KFC to get a bucket of chicken, munch up, commit one last sin with her then away on your toes quick stuff.

I've been there more than once, seriously..... bucket, sin, RUN!

I’m glad you liked that one cause to be honest when I read them back they all sounded terrible to me.
I'm seriously considering using 'Silent Lashes' for my Christmas username, I've not thought of any other name to use so far ;)

I wish it did! But Christmas has become so huge now that I think Thanksgiving gets lost in there somewhere. Plus Thanksgiving is only a one day event whereas Christmas is really a month long event now. Not to mention all the gifts that are exchanged at Christmas; something we really don’t do at Thanksgiving.
I don't know a great deal about Thanksgiving , but I always imagined it being a day for getting together with family members ... and that (along with the food) being the main focus, am I right DFF?
From what you've said it seems far less commercialised than Christmas and I kind of like that, it sounds more special.

It was the first Christmas I really enjoyed in a long time. I can’t say I ever sat here like a Scrooge, Grinch, humbug holiday-hater either. It wasn’t like that but I guess for many years I preferred to keep it really low key.
Maybe you relaxed more last Christmas? just went with the flow?

Christmas can be a difficult time for so many people and I guess it depends whats happened in the past or in the last year which determines how we feel about it. Its impossible to escape Christmas which must make it even harder for some because its literally everywhere for weeks.

I like to see how far some people go. Some people just put up some lights and then I see houses going all out and putting up all kinds of stuff. I enjoy seeing this kind of stuff but of course the more decorations they put up the more DFF risks injury coming to their houses.
Those who go extreme with their Christmas decorations, especially outside ones must run up huge electricity bills during December. You take extra care my friend when delivering to those who have inflatable Snowmen, Father Christmas and giant Christmas Puddings in their front gardens, they could fall over anytime :yikey:

I have noticed locally how many people decorated their gardens and driveways for Halloween this year, it seemed more popular than ever, big fake spiders webs on gateposts etc. We are miserable and didn't do any of this at our house

Just out of curiosity Lashes, which celebrity usually turns the Christmas lights on in your town? I find this fascinating!
Its usually a minor star, no one big like Tom Cruise or Madonna ..Lol! its mainly an actor/actress from a soap.

Our nearby town holds a Christmas market every year and kicks it off by having the Soap actor/actress to officially turn on the lights, along with Carol Singers from local schools. Its all good fun and gives a festive feel.

I’m glad you enjoy hearing about it cause to be honest a lot of people right here in the US don’t LOL!! What I mean is pretty soon I’ll be getting calls from my family in other parts of the country and they’ll be telling me how they’re shoveling snow. Then they’ll ask me what I’m up to and I’ll say “Oh, I’m just on my way to the beach” or “I’m going to the park to play some baseball.” I don’t like rubbing it in but it is kind of fun!
Good for you

That was a tough three weeks but I’m glad it happened now to be honest. It made me realize I needed to take better care of myself and start dieting again. I stopped drinking soda and tea completely and now I drink nothing but water all day. And I’m eating a lot of health foods. It’s boring but it’s what I need to do. And it must be working because I haven’t felt this good in years.
You must've been very determined to make so many changes. I drinks loads of water and always have a bottle with me everywhere I go. I just need to give up the coffee (I can't see me ever doing this) its one of life's pleasures foe me, although I am now down to only two cups a day.

Can you give yourself a treat from time to time? or are you very strict?

You're such a hero to those Orchids :)

She should be pleased to have two fellow orchids, her kind, near her if she can communicate in some plant way. All that time by herself and now she has friends like her. That's the way I look at it.
This made me laugh. It gave me a vision of my three Orchids gossiping about me every time I leave the room or the house :lmao:

I just want to get through 2022 without an orchid death.
You've done so well this year :D all your efforts of looking after them so patiently is paying off.

By the way our local shops are now selling Poinsettias, I'll leave it a few weeks before condemning one of them into my care.

No doubt, Koi and other pond fish are so interesting to watch.
I've not seen our 'fish-pond friends' since we last spoke Michelle, but when I do catch up with them they're going to be delighted that I'm suddenly interested to hear what kind of fish they have and how their pond works :giggle:

Yes, you are correct! It’s basically a day for family and sharing a big meal together. It’s definitely less commercialized than Christmas and to me that’s why it’s my favorite holiday. It’s all about giving thanks and unfortunately I think that’s something a lot of us don’t do enough of. It’s easy to forget.

Maybe you relaxed more last Christmas? just went with the flow?
I refused to get depressed last year. Usually the holidays are very tough for me and that was something I wanted to change. Life has to go on eventually and it took me a long time to be able to embrace that but I’m glad I finally did. For years I’d look at those decorations in the stores and I’d see everyone so happy and exchanging gifts and laughing and everything I was feeling was just the opposite. And then it hit me that I used to love Christmas. I missed Christmas and I missed walking through the malls and looking at all the decorations and more than anything I missed being with my family. I missed buying gifts for everyone. And I could feel the one person I missed the most telling me that it was okay if I wanted to move on now, that she was fine and I had mourned her long enough. I felt that all through the holidays last year from Thanksgiving to New Years and I had never felt this before. That feeling was there every day and it guided me. That was when I knew I was going to be okay and I could start celebrating Christmas again.

Christmas can be a difficult time for so many people and I guess it depends whats happened in the past or in the last year which determines how we feel about it. Its impossible to escape Christmas which must make it even harder for some because its literally everywhere for weeks.
That’s why when someone I know tells me they can’t celebrate the holidays that particular year for whatever reason I totally understand. I won’t push because no one pushed me, I have to say. Everyone gave me my time and space and no one ever got mad. We all deal with stuff and we all deal with it differently.

Those who go extreme with their Christmas decorations, especially outside ones must run up huge electricity bills during December.
You know, I never thought about this til now. I see so many people with their decorations on all day but I never considered what it must cost them.

You take extra care my friend when delivering to those who have inflatable Snowmen, Father Christmas and giant Christmas Puddings in their front gardens, they could fall over anytime :yikey:
Thank you Lashes! I have had some close calls over the years with these holidays. I feel like I go from walking through cemeteries to walking around giant turkeys to tripping over Christmas lights very quickly this time of year. The best ones are when I fall over someone’s decorations and it gets recorded by their cameras. I do love those! Once they stop laughing I will have to beg them to make sure the video never sees the light of day.

We are miserable and didn't do any of this at our house
This made me laugh! I didn’t put up any decorations for Halloween either I’m ashamed to say. Halloween seemed very quiet here this year. I didn’t notice many trick or treaters at all. Did you notice this where you live? Or was it a busy Halloween?

Its usually a minor star, no one big like Tom Cruise or Madonna ..Lol! its mainly an actor/actress from a soap.

You had me all excited for a big name movie star or something! But I’d still be excited if it was a minor star also. This sounds really nice!

You must've been very determined to make so many changes. I drinks loads of water and always have a bottle with me everywhere I go. I just need to give up the coffee (I can't see me ever doing this) its one of life's pleasures foe me, although I am now down to only two cups a day.
I was. Well, more like scared LOL!! I miss soda and tea and sugary drinks but I have to say that only drinking water is making a huge difference. I never anticipated how much better I would feel though. I have so much more energy now than with the sugar, if that makes any sense.

I know you can’t give up coffee, but I don’t think two cups a day is bad for you. I never did like coffee for whatever reason. Can’t drink it but I do love my coffee ice cream. That stuff is addictive!

Can you give yourself a treat from time to time? or are you very strict?
I give myself one day of splurging on the weekend, usually Sunday. But overall I’m being very strict for now. It’s very difficult but the results are rewarding.

Have a good week ahead my friend! And the same goes for everyone else on this thread!! DFF has to go get ready for another hurricane now unfortunately. And unlike last time this one is kinda headed right for me!!!

You've been through such a lot my friend and I'm so glad you're to have some enjoyment at Christmas again and don't have that awful feeling of dread. You know more than most that things like this take time and that you can't switch emotions easily.

That’s why when someone I know tells me they can’t celebrate the holidays that particular year for whatever reason I totally understand. I won’t push because no one pushed me, I have to say. Everyone gave me my time and space and no one ever got mad. We all deal with stuff and we all deal with it differently.
Yes you're right we do all deal with things differently, even if the exact same thing happens to someone else .. the feelings and emotions will be unique to each person.

I feel like I go from walking through cemeteries to walking around giant turkeys to tripping over Christmas lights very quickly this time of year. Halloween seemed very quiet here this year. I didn’t notice many trick or treaters at all. Did you notice this where you live? Or was it a busy Halloween?
It was quiet here too, my boys are too old to participate. It was mainly adults who dressed up their gardens and driveways, oh and I saw my little niece and nephews dressed up in their scary outfits :D

I miss soda and tea and sugary drinks but I have to say that only drinking water is making a huge difference. I never anticipated how much better I would feel though. I have so much more energy now than with the sugar, if that makes any sense.
You're doing well DFF, I can imagine that giving up sugar is extremely hard. Do you like natural fruit juice at all? it can make a nice change from water or you can mix it with water like I do.

I know you can’t give up coffee, but I don’t think two cups a day is bad for you.
Thank you my friend, you've said the right thing and I agree with you.

Yes, we’ve noticed!

I'm going to have a good think about your name DFF.
Thank you cause I’m still too lazy to go back and look at all the ones you suggested last year. And also because, well, “Tripping over everyone’s decorations and ending up on the ground Forever” is kind of too long of a Christmas name to use.

I love that you have such a holiday just to give thanks and appreciation. I've often wished we had something similar here.
I’ve always felt Thanksgiving is Christmas without all the hoopla. And I like all the hoopla of Christmas but for me Thanksgiving is so much more peaceful and quiet. But I don’t know, do we really need to wait for a holiday to give thanks? Every day is Thanksgiving for all of us, whether we celebrate that holiday or not and regardless of where we live. Corny perhaps but true.

By the way have your clocks gone back yet DFF? ours have and the nights are arriving earlier.
Yes, ours went back last Saturday night. I have mixed feelings on the whole clock thing to be honest. I like when it gets dark earlier cause down here it helps keep things cooler plus I don’t mind darkness. Yet this is that time of year we start working a little later and I don’t like driving in the dark.

You've been through such a lot my friend and I'm so glad you're to have some enjoyment at Christmas again and don't have that awful feeling of dread. You know more than most that things like this take time and that you can't switch emotions easily.
Thank you for saying that Lashes! This year I’m actually looking forward to the holidays again and I’m glad that’s the case. I shocked a lot of people last year by showing up Christmas Eve and from what I hear now the chatter is “Will he show up two years in a row?” I’m planning on it of course but I do like keeping them guessing a little. It’s quite fun!

 ... do you know, I'd never even considered the danger it puts on people like you people having big wobbly decorations outside .. how selfish am I?
Oh, I don’t think you’re selfish my friend! Maybe we should stop being in such a hurry all the time and watch where we’re going when we walk. But I have been attacked by many tombstones, ghosts, devils, witches, skeletons, gigantic turkeys, Santa and Frosty, the Grinch, Rudolph, all the other reindeer and just about every other decoration you can think of including the Christmas trees and lights themselves.

It was quiet here too, my boys are too old to participate. It was mainly adults who dressed up their gardens and driveways, oh and I saw my little niece and nephews dressed up in their scary outfits :D
I always find it a little sad when the kids get to that age when they don’t trick or treat anymore. I was all set to take my niece this year like we usually do but she mentioned these things called friends and a party and I realized that the day I dreaded for 13 years was finally here. On the other hand, it was nice to get to sleep early on a Halloween for a change.

You're doing well DFF, I can imagine that giving up sugar is extremely hard. Do you like natural fruit juice at all? it can make a nice change from water or you can mix it with water like I do.
I have to try that. I do like natural fruit juice and drinking strictly water is getting old. I notice I’m missing the soda and iced tea a lot less now than I did at first though. Perhaps I got used to not having them now.

Thanks to you I now know the pleasures of coffee ice-cream :gotcha: I also love Coffee cake.
You’re welcome my friend! I’m glad I made such an impact with the coffee ice cream. It was obviously a big hit. I go to this frozen yogurt place once in awhile and they make this special thing that’s half coffee and half peanut butter. DFF is not a big fan of either one but I have to say they go together very well for some reason. I like coffee cake too. Definitely not my favorite cake but it’s up there for me. This thread is killing my diet but I don’t care LOL!!

Please, please keep safe DFF , I'll keep a look out on our news, I hope its not as bad as expected.
Thank you Lashes! I can’t remember ever having a hurricane in November but Nicole obviously didn’t care about that. Luckily she turned away from South Florida when she made landfall so for us she was just a tropical storm. It was nowhere near as bad as Ian thankfully. I really hope that’s it for this season.

I hope you’re having a good week so far my friend and the same goes for everyone else!!

This is actually quite catchy! I will definitely have to consider this one.

You’re quite good at this Lashes! I struggle with coming up with names. I have to admit that after I picked DFF I kind of regretted it a little. The more I said it to myself the less I liked it but I’ve become so used to it now that I won’t change it cause that would just confuse everyone. It has grown on me since.

It must be a relief for you over there when the temperature drops a bit when its dark, the problem here is that it drops too much.
It is nice when it gets cooler here and the humidity lessens. Like right now it’s 7 o’clock at night and it’s still 78 degrees. A few times during the winter months it will go down to the 40s. DFF doesn’t really like it that cold but considering how cold it gets where you are I have no right to complain. I guess living down here has spoiled me a little.

I'm so pleased you're looking forward to Christmas, it must make life a bit easier for you not having that 'dread' feeling anymore. :)
It’s hard to explain because I don’t know why it all finally changed last year, other than I just started having these feelings like it was time.

I'm also looking forward Christmas and also to Christmas on Telly Talk again, I like seeing the forum looking festive.
I enjoy seeing this as well. I think the thing I enjoy the most about Christmas is going to the malls and seeing all the decorations in the stores. All of that stuff makes me feel pretty good.

Christmas commercials have started over here already, I'm sure they're showing them earlier than usual? :confuse: I think the big stores and companies are having to work harder than ever to tempt us to buy considering the recent cost of living increases.
I honestly haven’t noticed many Christmas commercials over here yet but then again on the commercials I’m usually running to the refrigerator. I think you’re right though. They’re probably showing them earlier cause they’re worried about the sales projections.

This is going to be hard to believe but even with my job this year they are predicting a very slow season. This is the first time I’ve heard this in 24 years. So even the shipping business is slow right now.

Yes, once they become young teenagers they suddenly feel all grown up. I'm sure your niece will still be excited to see her lovely uncle at Christmas though :D
Thank you Lashes! Yes, despite officially being a teenager now she does still look forward to seeing her uncle. I kind of struggle with the letting go stuff a little. She has a zillion friends and I see her less now but I get it. Still my baby though no matter what. That won’t ever change.

I've never had frozen yoghurt, ever o_O I need to rectify this and make sure I'm not missing out.
It’s definitely a weakness of mine. I’ve cut down on it a lot now but at one point I was eating that stuff daily. I have to warn you that it can be very addictive!

I do like the sound of coffee with peanut butter. and that's another thing ........ I've never tried a peanut butter and jelly/jam sandwich, are they good?
I’m probably the only person I know that doesn’t like peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. For some reason I just never went for them. I do hope you finally try one though, and I also hope you don’t like it either so I can finally say I’m not the only one LOL

Lol!..we need to stop talking food.
Apparently we can’t my friend!

Thank goodness she turned away, phew!
My sentiments exactly! I was thinking about leaving the second they closed down work and get out of dodge but she ended up hitting another part of the state. That’s the most difficult part with these storms. They’re so unpredictable and they often end up turning.

I hope everyone had a nice weekend and is enjoying their Monday so far!
