My "hero worship of BBG and disrespect of Donna Reed"??

If you can't even get those baseless accusations right, why should anybody believe your "facts" in defense of Reagan's presidency and the effect of his policies?
Baseless? Like calling me a right winger?

And you are creating a straw man
BBG and Donna Reed have nothing to do with RR
and I gave facts, broad dynamics and global trends as support.

Why should anyone believe you
you provide no facts,
just sarcastic bits of deflection and misinformation

No, I am realistic about facts.
The Reagan era was certainly better than what preceded it, or are you a fan of double digit inflation and double digit unemployment

Look out for anybody who uses the word "facts" repeatedly during political exchanges.

And, by the way, they changed the way unemployment is counted. Today, under Biden, we allegedly have only 4% unemployment -- but if we went by the way it was counted 45 years ago, unemployment would really be somewhere between 15 to 20%.

So, see, I have no problem bashing both sides. You're probably more subjective.

BBG and Donna Reed have nothing to do with RRRR

So why did you inject them into the conversation about Reagan? You do realize people can see what you've typed a few posts back, don't you? (And if you change your post, the mods can check it).

It is a fact that the stock market more than tripled, unemployment and inflation were reduced significantly,
and that the Berlin Wall came down. Many other things as well.

Yes, I value facts.

Trumps political connection is not at all important to me, if he were a Liberal Democrat, I would still find him a vile, psychopathic narcissist sociopath.. Because I know, with every fiber of my being, he is a dangerous, racist, homophobic, misogynist, criminal, liar, traitor, felon, sexual abuser, (did i use enough adjectives :D ) I could not support an actor, even one I 've loved and supported for years, who supports a person with those characteristics.
You could ask both Trump and Biden supporters if they thought those adjectives applied to their preferred candidate, and they would all say no.

As someone who's researched them and doesn't care about the outcome, I'd say those adjectives apply to both (except felon, and that's only because they won't try Biden.)

Politics has nothing to do with it, I'm not a huge Biden fan either, any pro comments about Biden are not about my support for him, but that in the US there are only two options, and my feelings on the other are clear above. If Charlene is Republican, cool, I've always thought she was and never bothered me. If however, I were to find out she was a MAGA supporter, she'd be dead to me. I have no problem saying that.
There's nothing wrong with saying it. We all have different standards we hold people to, and that's okay.

I think you're being a little tribal when it comes to how you feel about Trump vs. other politicians, but many people are tribal to some degree.

Every President had missteps. Whatever faults RR had were extremely minor compared to his successors
In any event, the nation was better during the RR years than the administration that preceded it
The 90s were also a strong decade, but I don't consider Clinton to be a good president. Like Reagan, Clinton set in motion policies that subsequent administrations adopted. They may not have been felt immediately, but we're feeling the effects of them today. The 21st century presidents are worse because they put those policies on steroids.

It looks like we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

When I evaluate presidents, I tend to look at to what degree they DAMAGED the country rather than to what degree they helped it. Why? Because in my life time, they have all done more damage than good.

The fact is, the US has had essentially the same administration since Reagan. As different as the two parties claim to be, there is very little daylight between their actual policies. Reagan and Clinton SEEMED to be good presidents at the time, but both of them left legacies of horrific domestic and foreign policies that we are still suffering from today.

Yes, NAFTA was a disaster from Clinton -- I didn't know much about NAFTA at the time, but when Clinton announced it, the right-wingers on the dais behind him started salivating. So I knew that was a bad sign.

And when Clinton asserted at the JFK Library that JFK would have supposedly supported NAFTA, Ted Kennedy snorted -- politely but obviously -- that he disagreed.

Clinton's NAFTA was the nail in the coffin that Reagan had designed with his own catastrophic (for the working class) policies.

Isn't bipartisanship wondrous??

Maybe so, but many Trump supporters also think Hillary Clinton ran a sex ring in a pizza shop, Antifa was responsible for January 6th, Obama wasn't born in America, The Biden administration is running Taylor Swift's actions and movement , Covid was a hoax and Trump is some sort of Deity. Come on, even you must agree many (most) Trump supporters are not exactly rational in what they believe.

The DNC will ride him to the convention, and once he's made -- quite foolishly -- the party's nominee, he can then be replaced (and presumably will be) by the Democratic establishment by whomever they want, the voters not having any say in it (until November). That's the game plan.

This is the state of politics in America today:

Biden’s Spews Complete GIbberish! He’s Just Making Noises Now. (youtube.com)

Somehow, Charlene becoming a Trumper seems so insignificant in light of this.

I agree with you that MAGA can be quite irrational. However, now the neoliberals are fear mongering that Trump won't leave office if he's re-elected (despite leaving office the first time.) They're also claiming that he'll prosecute his political enemies. The last part is pure projection since the Dems refuse to prosecute war criminals, yet they seem to think paying hush money to a porn star is the worst crime one can commit. The Dems also support prosecuting Julian Assange for publishing damning information about war crimes committed by the US, yet they claim Trump is the one who will attack journalists. Both sides are so morally bankrupt that all they can do is fear monger about the other.

-There was not a peaceful transfer of power during the last election
-Trump said he's going after his political enemies
-NO ONE things paying hush money is the worst crime you commit, it was just the first case that made it to court. You must also have forgotten that paying a porn sttar wasn't the crime he was found guilty, it was the cover-up and falsifying of documents to hide from voters.
-Trump does attack journalists, almost daily, only the journalists however, who don't suck his dick.
-Both sides may be morally bankrupt, but as I said earlier, comparing them is mentally lazy, the crimes of the two cannot be compared. Have you read the specifics in the Florida document case?

Frank, you seem like a nice guy, but I really can't with discussion that compare the two parties. You say you're not a Trumper, yet reply like one, if you feel both are equally morally corrupt, why do you continue to defend Trump with every response? An honest discussion would be to respond with why the comments I'm making about Trump are not true. Instead, you just reply with 'But Biden' 'But the democrats'. Typical political deflection and word play.

If you have any info on Lucy Ewing, please do let me know.

It's not mentally lazy. That conversation is for 2018.

-Trump said he's going after his political enemies

Well, that's what they've been doing to him -- to keep him out of the race. And I hate Trump, too.

Because @Frank Underwood is trying to be objective and point out the hypocrisy. But whenever anyone on the legit left does that, they get accused of being "closet MAGA."

The details matter. Trump's a pig, but the actual policy won't be much different -- no matter who gets elected in November. Although the coverage of that policy will be quite different.

You just haven't figured it out yet.

Yes there was. You can say Trump inspired people to commit an insurrection at the capitol on Jan. 6th, but he still left office on Jan. 20th. Biden was sworn in the same day.

The point remains that nobody has prosecuted former presidents for far more heinous war crimes, which every president this century has been guilty of.

Hunter Biden's laptop revealed that he and his father were involved in influence peddling schemes in Ukraine and China, but they only went after Hunter for the gun charges. I will gladly concede that Trump's a criminal who deserves to be prosecuted, but it's also painfully obvious why he's the only former president to become a convicted felon.

Another interesting development was finding out withholding military aid is an impeachable offense, but sending billions in military aid and being complicit in genocide isn't.

-Trump does attack journalists, almost daily, only the journalists however, who don't suck his dick.
-Both sides may be morally bankrupt, but as I said earlier, comparing them is mentally lazy, the crimes of the two cannot be compared. Have you read the specifics in the Florida document case?
It's not mentally lazy, as I've laid out exactly how Dems also go after their political enemies (including journalists) while protecting their own.

I've already listed Biden's many crimes, which you disingenuously compared to shoplifting. IMO, it's precisely that type of undermining that's mentally lazy. As for the Florida document case specifically, I'm aware that Trump improperly stored classified documents at Mar-a-Lago and that the case has been delayed by the judge. Of course, classified documents were also improperly stored in Biden's garage, but it's "never the same thing" when the other side does it. Again, people are often tribal when it comes to politics.

How do I respond like a Trumper? I've already said that I agree with your assessment of Trump, so why do you expect me to offer a rebuttal to that?

Lastly, I am having an honest discussion with you. You seem to mistakenly believe that my criticisms of Biden are intended to deflect from Trump's vile behavior, but that's not the case. You listed all the reasons why you refuse to be a fan of Trump supporters while downplaying the vile behavior and crimes of Dems like Biden. The reason I responded with a detailed list of Biden's atrocious views and policies is because you insist that comparing Biden to Trump is like comparing a shoplifter to a serial killer. Clearly, I disagree with that analogy. You're certainly entitled to believe whatever you want, but you can't expect people not to pushback if they don't agree with the entirety of your premise.

If you have any info on Lucy Ewing, please do let me know.
I will if I find out. If she is a Trumper, she must keep it close to the vest. Maybe she just doesn't want to lose you as a fan!

By the way, I'm sure you're a nice guy too. I remember you from the past. I used to go by Sid Fairgate if that jogs your memory.

Gosh........................This thread has gone way off topic and we still havent found an answer for @Luke2019 :123: re Miss Tilton and her political persuasions

I think you may be right there @Snarky Oracle!
In an attempt to get back on thread.
I do not know anything about Charlene Tilton's politics.
Since she has not been public about it, at least to my knowledge,
it is irrelevant, and it is nobody's business,
as long as she is private about it.

What is important is that Ms Tilton has been a major advocate for autism awareness in the media,
and she deserves to be respected for that
According to wikipedia "... She is currently the ambassador for Actors for Autism, an organization that leads improv and acting workshops for children and adults with autism. She approached AFA in 2010 with the desire to volunteer and has been affiliated with them ever since.[10]..."

She has also spoken about her spirituality

Whatever her political beliefs are, she chooses to keep it private

I choose to respect her for trying to make a positive impact in the world

You just haven't figured it out yet.

Maybe, I could be a few years behind as you said, or maybe miles ahead. I think it depends on your view and where your seated. Maybe most people feel as you do, but most people don't vote that way. Even when Trump won, both times he ran, millions more voted against him. That doesn't even include the rest of the world, that for the most part thinks Trump is a joke and can't believe he was actually elected. Yes, there are far right wing factions rising everywhere, even here in Canada, but they have yet to win an election.

I actually think your a few years behind Marky. If it were 2015, I would 100% agree with you, and all the posters who've argued there isn't much difference between the two parties. But many things have changed since then, from Roe vs Wade to the hate and division not started by, but stoked by Trump.

Beyond the big baboon, the Republican party has been a mess the last many years, from the vote circus for house speaker to the close of Taylor Greene, Boebert, Santos, the party has become a grievance party fueled by religious zealots and whack jobs. There are many problem Democrats as well, but there are such clear differences and don't understand, nor support anyone who tries to lump them together. Again, lazy, and the easy way not to have to take a stand one way or another. Hate them both, no need to really take a stand. Much easier just to be Staler and Waldorf in the balcony.

I really have posted too much, I really only ventured back to ask about Tilton, there is enough political discourse in life and on-line without arguing points that will not change anyone's mind anyway. I am guessing you are rooted in your feelings, and I know I am rooted in mine.
