There were stories about how, after the Clintons left the White House (where they really were assaulted and investigated beyond reason), the duo began to commiserate over why people like Karl Rove always "win". And so they appear to have learned the wrong things, quite cynically -- hinting at Obama being assassinated during the 2008 campaign, buddying up with the Bush crime family, Hillary blaming innocent people like Bernie for her errors (or just bad luck) because doing so works for Trump...
And yet it doesn't really work for the Clintons because all that selling-your-soul-to-the-devil stuff isn't really quite who they are, try as they might.
You can't really use the Evil Persons' Playbook successfully because you have to be a certain level of rotten for it work. And as jadedly pragmatic as the Clintons have become since the '90s, something in them just isn't committed to Satan enough to pull it off.
I will admit there was a time when Hillary was on the right side of issues such as healthcare reform and bankruptcy laws. Unfortunately, she hasn't put down the "Evil Persons' Playbook" since she picked it up. If she had admitted to being a pragmatist in the past, yet recognized that progressive positions are the future, she probably would have won. Instead, she said Bernie's positions would never happen while making condescending remarks about his supporters. That exacerbated her reputation as an elitist, and not addressing the economic concerns of the working class showed her hubris. She thought she could win without them. As Chuck Schumer put it, they would pick up two moderate Republicans for every blue collar Democrat they lost. That plan was a failure, but Hillary was enabled by fellow elitist Dems who supported her strategy of ignoring the working class.
The attitude of Dems like Schumer and Clinton is why there's a civil war in the Democratic Party. The Sanders side is courting progressives, while the Clinton side is more interested in support from moderate Republicans than blue collar Democrats. Of course, that's because the moderates are the ones who've become buddies with the corporations and Wall Street. Still, Schumer has shown his pragmatism by releasing the Democrats' "Better Deal" economic agenda. I guess he realized that when you get beat by an orange bag of gas, you have to rethink your priorities. Surprisingly, the usually pragmatic Hillary doesn't seem to be doing that. She wants to rehash 2016 by attacking Sanders and calling his supporters sexist, but that does nothing to move things forward. And she wants us to believe that Sanders both stole her ideas
and was too far left at the same time!
Her image was repairable, but she keeps making disingenuous personal attacks. She asks in her book why she's a "lightning rod for fury," before concluding "I think it's partly because I'm a woman."
It's all just a never ending cycle of her victim hood.
Her pedo pizzeria notwithstanding. (BTW: try the one with the veal. It's squealingly good!)
She has endured some bogus investigations and phony scandals, I'll give her that. The pedo pizzeria thing being one of the more nonsensical and ridiculous.
Unfortunately, her defenders in the media have taken to using Trump's term "alt-left" to describe her progressive critics. They claim that her progressive detractors are using right wing attacks against her, even though the criticisms are night and day. Right wingers rely on ridiculous conspiracies such as Benghazi and a pizzeria pedo ring. Progressives criticize her record and her shitting on Bernie and his supporters. Apples and oranges.
