Why did Dallas do that in Season 10 DVD? I mean, why did they use 35mm film and then dub it down to a 1" video? I thought US drama series nearly always used 35mm film going back to the 1950s even? In Britain, it's more complex, with only Lew Grade's ITC shows on ITV having the proper foresight and resources from the 1950s onwards to put nearly all his shows on 35mm film, with Grade treating all his shows as if they would be broadcast in the US, which most of them were. The last 3 seasons of The Avengers did likewise on ITV, with US cash helping. Three ITC shows in the 1970s were done on inferior 16mm film for budgetary reasons, with Jason King looking bad enough to almost be 8mm film. BBC shows, on the other hand, were much cheaper in their approach, nearly always recording their shows with a mixture of videotape and 16mm film, i.e. videotape in the studio for most of the scenes shot, and the occasional scene on location on 16mm film. The BBC only really did consistent film if it was a co-production with an outside broadcaster.
