The ballet stuff is not at all stiff and theatrical; it's really, really cinematic and almost psychedelic, which is quite remarkable given the 60s hadn't even happened yet. The whole film is beautiful to look at, so rich and vivid and colourful -- you want to pause almost every shot and hang it on your wall -- and the story is romantic and tragic and timeless: it feels earthy and otherworldly all at the same time.
