When I finished my last fic, I said I was done with long, multi part stories for a while. But, as often happens, ideas come into my brain and refuse to go away, so here I go again.
I won't promise frequent updates - I am a pretty busy person these days, but I will write and post when I can. Please have patience with me, and I hope you all enjoy!

This fic takes place approximately two years after "Conundrum" and the end of the original "Dallas" series. It completely disregards both the movie specials and the TNT revival.

"You may as well open your eyes. I know you're faking being asleep."
JR growled, opened his eyes, and slowly sat up straight. "What do you want? And how did you get in here?"
"Why wouldn't they let me in to see you, JR? We're family after all. Besides, you've been in this asylum for months and I'm the first person who's bothered to come to see you. Honestly, I think your nurses are just thrilled to think someone actually cares about you."
"We both know you don't care about me."
"That's not entirely true. I don't like you. In fact, I despise you. But I care about what happens to you because, at the moment, I need you."
"For what?"
"Cliff Barnes has something that belongs to me. I want it back."
JR's eyes narrowed to dangerous slits. "Ewing Oil doesn't belong to you. It never has."
"It doesn't belong to you anymore either, does it? I can't believe you lost Jock's company to Cliff Barnes. The old bastard is probably spinning in his grave."
"What do you want?" JR demanded, his voice cold and low.
"I told you. I want what's mine. And you're going to help me get it."
"Why would I do that?"
"Because you get to take half of Ewing Oil for yourself."
"Half?"
"That's right, JR. I get half. But you'll be president and CEO. You're a son-of-a-bitch, but you're the best Oilman in Texas."
"Why now? I haven't seen you in years. Barnes has had Ewing Oil in his sweaty, weak grasp for two years. Hell, I've been bouncing around from one asylum to another forever. Why come to me now?"
"I needed time to get what I needed to pull this off. And time to learn how to do it. Plus, I've enjoyed watching you suffer from afar these last couple of years."
"Get what you needed? What's that?"
"First things first, JR. We need to set very clear, concrete terms for our partnership. You do what needs to be done to get Ewing Oil back. You'll have half of the company to leave to John Ross. You'll get to run things. But I will be half owner. And we'll draw up an iron clad contract that says if you ever try to swindle me out of what's mine and I catch you, I get it all. Understand?"
"Why should I even consider working with you?"
"Because you'll have Ewing Oil back. And because you'll get her back too."
"Her?"
"Don't play games with me, JR. And don't forget how well I know you. I have a plan. And I have everything we need to take Cliff Barnes down. But for my plan to work, we need John Ross. That means we need her."
"Then your plan is garbage because she hates my stinking guts. So does John Ross."
"Oh, you'll take care of that soon enough. She's different. You won't be able to win her over with a few diamonds and some yellow roses, but you'll win her over just the same. And John Ross loves you. He's just really angry with you right now. But you'll be a proper daddy and have them both eating out of your hands soon enough."
"You don't think they're both better off without me?"
"Of course they are. But I don't care, JR. I want what's mine. I need them to get it."
JR slowly roused himself into a standing position. He walked slowly over to the window and stared out over the asylum's well kept grounds. "Half, huh?"
"That's right. Half. Non negotiable."
"What about Bobby?"
"What about him?"
"He gets nothing?"
"He has Southfork. And that should be ours too. He gets nothing more."
"You said you have something to take Cliff down?"
"I do. And I have the means to keep Bobby so distracted he won't even notice what we're doing."
"Then why do you need me?"
"I told you. I need John Ross. I need you for that."
JR grinned to himself and nodded. "I'm in."
"Oh, JR. I knew you would be. You can't resist the temptation to get Ewing Oil back plus get to screw Cliff and Bobby over in the process."
"First move has to be for me to get out of here."
"That's already in motion. I need to be clear JR. We work together, but on my terms and with my conditions. Do we have a deal."
"Oh, we have a deal," JR laughed. "And you know what?" He turned fully to face his visitor for the first time, "I think I was wrong about you all these years. You might turn out to be a real Ewing after all."
