Frasier to return for a re-boot

I enjoyed Frasier and I'm interested in checking out the reboot, but I always felt much of its fanbase were a bit pretentious. I guess that fits with the theme of the show, though.
Cheers was my personal favorite of the two shows, if only because there was a more "everyman" feel to it. Of course, we're really comparing apples to oranges here.
Paramount also dropped an actual trailer for the reboot, and it's enough to make me want to check it out:

I suppose the premise of Frasier now being the old man to his own son is one I should have seen coming. Am I correct in inferring that he's moved back to Boston?

Frasier set the standard for the humble character comedy. It has never been bettered. This reboot will not tarnish that legacy but I doubt whether it’s likely to enhance it any. I expect it to be good but the casting already appears slightly askew. We’ll see.

Yes, why Nicholas Lyndhurst? His acting is very ham in that trailer. Why do so many US sitcoms cast English characters as either stupid or archaic stereotypes?
I like the idea of him returning to Boston though - sets up lots of possible reunion episodes.

I have to agree. Cheers was, and always will be, in a class by itself for me. I never did feel the same about Frasier, although I have to say the show was way more successful than most could’ve anticipated. At the time I expected it to last only a season or two and obviously I was wrong.
I thought the same thing when I read this. Returning to Boston may give us a few interesting cameos, perhaps even some scenes in a certain bar. The nostalgic part of me kind of likes this idea.

Watching the latest trailer, I feel the Freddy character will bring the show down. He seems very unfunny.
I hope we'll get to see a healthy dose of Lilith.

I think Martin would also seem unfunny out of context. Hopefully, the Frasier-Freddy dynamic will be just as productive.

Agree somewhat. Frasier's humor was more dry, for lack of a better description
Cheers was the never the same after Nicholas Colasanto passed and Shelly Long departed, IMHO.
Actually, Shelly Long added more of a "Frasier-type" element to the show,, that was not replaced until...Frasier!
Never thought the Carla character was funny - just mean, unlikeable and bitter
George Wendt is always fun to watch.
Trivia - Fred Dryer (Hunter, former football player) was originally considered for Sam

Maybe. We'll see. But somehow I get the feeling that the Freddy actor isn't nearly as good of a comedy actor that John Mahoney was. A line in a script can seem semi-funny in print. A great comedy actor with good timing turns it funny and gets a good chuckle from the audience. An actor who isn't good at comedy makes the audience feel it was supposed to be funny, but fell flat.
Based only on that short trailer, I feel Freddy will end up in the latter. I hope to be wrong! But comedy is hard business. Few can do it really good.

Yes, I agree with that. I didn't mind the Woody/Rebecca years, but it was better when Coach and Diane were there.
I enjoyed her character, but I can understand how people could find her unlikeable.
Yes, and he always had a great response when asked how life was going for him.
Yes, and I believe they both ended up appearing on the show in bit parts too.
William Devane from Knots Landing was also considered for Sam.

I don't think the reviews for this was ever going to be good to be fair - either they would do the same old Fraiser and come off as hopelessly old fashioned, or try to do something different which would sit wrong with fans. We'll see which way they lean into this.

This sounds eerily like another continuation. Replace Frasier with Dallas (TNT) and you've summed up everything that was either right or wrong about that. The trailer for this Frasier seems a little off to me...pass.

I was horrified to read one reviewer liken it to the Murphy Brown revival. If it is even a fraction as bad as that MB fiasco, I'll have to steer clear.

Few things in life are as awful as the Murphy Brown revival. The fact that they admitted they revived the show only because Trump became president was more than obvious, as every episode served as a heavy-handed critique of him and his supporters. I don't say that as a Trump fan, and I certainly don't think any politician is beyond reproach. However, I prefer political humor that is clever and funny. Like the late night talk shows of the time, the Murphy Brown revival went with hacky and lame instead. They chose to go with these one-sided caricatures. I remember one episode had an obvious stand in for Steve Bannon named Ed Shannon. LOL, get it? Their last names rhyme in case the portrayal wasn't on the nose enough! So yeah, that revival was a dud.
Tastes vary, but I didn't think the first episode of the new Frasier was remotely close to being that awful. I still found it only mildly amusing, though.
