How Did the Ewings React to Capricorn Crude

Barring sheep babies, I wonder how David Jacobs arrived at the surname "Ewing." It's a pretty unusual name.

GUNSMOKE ended in 1975 after a record twenty-year run, but the color episodes (nine years of them) went into syndication in the mid-to-late-'70s as Jacobs was writing his DALLAS pilot script (finished 10 December 1977, I think).

Leonard Katzman was on board to be the line producer, with DALLAS to quickly commence filming in late-January 1978... And Katzman had produced the last four seasons of GUNSMOKE, those color episodes going into reruns at the same time, and actor Roger Ewing (who just died a few weeks ago), although only on GUNSMOKE for two brief years, was in the first color episodes syndicated.

Maybe Jacobs caught some of those repeats, saw the name "Ewing," and thought it was unique and went with it. (Although Katzman's GUNSMOKE episodes were a little bit later).

Just a theory, perhaps hairbrained.

Is a ram closer to a sheep than a goat is to a sheep?
A ram is a male sheep.
they should make a series on one of the channels/platforms without the network “standards and practices” restrictions and fully embrace the great Lee Raintree’s salaciousness
You know, that's a great idea. They could sell it as a "reimagining. " I'm sure it would rate better than a prequel that tried to be faithful to the original series and probably a great deal more interesting.

I read or heard on a David Jacobs interview that he’d seen the name Ewing on a sign or ad for a car dealership - Ewing Ford or something like that.. Maybe the Ewing Lincoln Mercury dealership that provided Jock with his appropriately-lengthed Lincoln Mark coupes.

Didn't there turn out to be a real-life Ewing Oil in west Texas? Did anybody sue anybody?

As close to Capricorn Crude as it comes.
I remember this one. Half the book was devoted to the Ewing family stories before the series started (non-canon stuff). Rebecca was named Penny back then, and Gary's wife was called Maureen... As a 13-year-old boy, I was shocked (but somewhat excited) to read such explicit sex scenes.
And Sue Ellen was raped during the hostage crisis... (Winds of Vengeance)
