Why does it seem so gawd damned difficult for this generation to be willing to do something simple like boycott and demand change?
Because to them it doesn't feel like high-stakes issues, or they're not aware of it.
Those previous generations you mentioned knew exactly what they were fighting for, what needed to be achieved.

I admire your optimism and I prefer it to pessimism, it's just that the arguments made in this thread aren't terribly convincing.
I mean, waiting for someone to upload that hugely influential tiktok video is basically the same as "sitting on your ass doing absolutely nothing".

Rallies have happened thanks to organized protests going viral. We've seen that with the "No Kings" protests that took place across the country.

Organizing isn't the problem. Unfortunately, it's only amounted to performative activism so far. "No Kings" was a joke because it accomplished absolutely nothing.

As the saying goes, "power concedes nothing without a demand." Perhaps young people are afraid to make demands because they were raked over the coals for doing so. After all, many were blamed for giving us Trump because of their "purity tests" (which is another way of saying they had integrity and principles.) If people want change, they have to challenge the billionaires and politicians. The establishment and its enablers will always say that it's "not the right time" because they want to preserve the status quo forever.

I'm doing something. I grow my own vegetables or go to local farmer's markets, locally sourced butcher shops, buy Canadian whenever possible and am part of a grass roots movement to move away from conglomerate corporations (especially the ones who support singular political candidates). I can't even remember the last time I went to Wal-mart.

I actually like what my current PM is doing to move Canada away from giving the US preferential treatment for trade. He's diversifying and jobs are being created rapidly.

The U.S. on the other hand is rapidly in danger of falling from the top of the hill. Especially if they lose reserve currency status with their massive $40 trillion debt. Tik Tok....errr tick tock.

My grandpa grew his own vegetable garden too, but he also owned his own house. My other granddad lived on a farm.

For the majority of the millennial and Gen Z generation, home ownership has been out of reach as home prices and income inequality have skyrocketed (at least in the US).

Poor people living in overpriced apartments don't have many options when it comes to food sources.

The college students seem keenly aware of the threat AI poses to the job market, with many of them pushing back whenever tech giants say it's the wave of the future. Perhaps this will be what lights a fire under them to demand change, but who knows? I've felt like we were on the verge of a revolution before, only for it to fizzle out with a whimper.

Yeah, the housing market has become rich people selling other rich people houses. Their goal of "you will own nothing, and you will be happy," where they intended to rent over-priced houses forever (with entire neighborhoods bought up across the country and kept empty) hasn't really panned out for them as they'd envisioned. So, word is that investment firms that have done this may be deciding to dump all these properties back onto the market to sell, but the asking prices for these middling properties is so inflated today that no one can still afford them.

But there seems to be a weird intention on the part of the oligarchs to destroy things, not as a side effect but as a key goal. They seem to assume -- or suspect -- that the end result will benefit them is some ways.

Even the A.I. tech kings seem to be wary of their own product and the dystopia it may unleash between 2027 and 2030. Yet they're enthusiastic about it too.

When Peter Theil was recently asked if he had any religious beliefs, responded, without apparent irony, that he wasn't sure "but maybe Satanic."

What's not to be optimistic about with that?

I've said this before but eating healthier is surprisingly cheaper than eating processed junk. You don't have to grow your own. Even supporting local, works out cheaper.

There's just so much more fiber and protein in healthier options that you eat less. I also don't miss refined sugar when I use honey or maple syrup instead.

Homes aren't affordable here either for people in their 20's without help from parents now (since covid price hikes). However, I think I could easily be happy in a tiny home. I'm rapidly becoming a minimalist (as long as my dogs have a spot to roam freely). I think the younger generation is too...tiny environmental footprint allows money to be freed up for travel, etc.

"Not knowing" is never an option for human beings. The only way to know what happens is to see it through. Maybe that's how the Nazi ideology happened.

There is also the issue of mass immigration letting in zillions (particularly in Europe), and activist judges releasing homicidal criminals with long records back onto the streets with little or no punishment, incarceration, or even paying bond (especially when the offender belongs to a specific racial demographic).

And complaints about these things are not just coming from right-wingers. It's become painfully obvious that these are not just one-offs or random miscarriages of justice. It's a well-organized psy-op to destabilize the culture, to undermine and debilitate the underclasses by keeping them at war with each other. (And the elites always benefit from these things).

But there's one elite in particular who may be at the core of all this: Sith Lord and infamous "lefty" George Soros who is alleged to have funded these activist judges' campaigns and the riots over the last few years. As an act of divide-and-conquer over the people... Soros is also responsible for single-handedly gutting the economies of several southeast Asian countries, something he doesn't really deny and calls his own "amoral" business strategy.

Some view Soros as party of The Epstein class. But Epsteinexposed says:

Billionaire investor and philanthropist, founder of Open Society Foundations. His name appears in over 350 documents in the DOJ Epstein files, primarily in the context of Steve Bannon's 2018 emails to Epstein. Bannon wrote to Epstein in July 2018: "Do u know anyone in Europe that wants to control the European Parliament and with it the EU -- I need to get serious about taking on Soros." George Soros is referenced throughout as a political adversary in the Bannon-Epstein correspondence, not as a party to the correspondence.

His nephew Peter Soros is separately listed in Epstein's black book with multiple phone numbers, and Peter's name appears circled alongside Epstein's contact list in Case 1:15-cv-07433. A DOJ memo released July 2025 concluded that no "client list" existed in the Epstein files and that no credible evidence supported claims Epstein had blackmailed prominent individuals. George Soros was named on the DOJ's February 2026 list of 305 politically exposed persons appearing in the files. No documented direct correspondence or meeting between George Soros and Epstein has been established. No allegations of wrongdoing have been made against him in connection with Epstein.

According to Jewish TelegraphAgency, Soros said several years ago:

"Jews and Israel cause anti-semitism"

When asked about anti-Semitism in Europe, Soros, who is Jewish, said European anti-Semitism is the result of the policies of Israel and the United States.

“There is a resurgence of anti-Semitism in Europe. The policies of the Bush administration and the Sharon administration contribute to that,” Soros said. “It’s not specifically anti-Semitism, but it does manifest itself in anti- Semitism as well. I’m critical of those policies.”

“If we change that direction, then anti-Semitism also will diminish,” he said. “I can’t see how one could confront it directly.”

That is a point made by Israel’s most vociferous critics, whom some Jewish activists charge with using anti-Zionism as a guise for anti-Semitism.

The billionaire financier said he, too, bears some responsibility for the new anti-Semitism, citing last month’s speech by Malaysia’s outgoing prime minister, Mahathir Mohammad, who said, “Jews rule the world by proxy.”

“I’m also very concerned about my own role because the new anti-Semitism holds that the Jews rule the world,” said Soros, whose projects and funding have influenced governments and promoted various political causes around the world.

“As an unintended consequence of my actions,” he said, “I also contribute to that image.”

In the past, Mahathir has singled out Soros and other “Jewish financiers” for financial pressure that Mahathir said has harmed Malaysia’s economy.

After the conference, some Jewish leaders who heard about the speech reacted angrily to Soros’ remarks.

“Let’s understand things clearly: Anti-Semitism is not caused by Jews; it’s caused by anti-Semites,” said Elan Steinberg, senior adviser at the World Jewish Congress. “One can certainly be critical of Bush policy or Sharon policy, but any deviation from the understanding of the real cause of anti-Semitism is not merely a disservice, but a historic lie.”

Abraham Foxman, national director of the Anti-Defamation League, called Soros’ comments “absolutely obscene.”

“He buys into the stereotype,” Foxman said. “It’s a simplistic, counterproductive, biased and bigoted perception of what’s out there. It’s blaming the victim for all of Israel’s and the Jewish people’s ills.”

The NewYorkPost's later reported that "far left" Soros had funded pro-Palestine protests (which the rightwing tabloid called "pro-Hamas" and "Israel bashing") $15 million+.

Who knows what any of this means. I certainly don't. But Playing Two Sides Against the Middle seems to be a lifelong strategy of Soros. As a young boy, he even helped the nazis go after his own people.

There is also the issue of mass immigration letting in zillions (particularly in Europe)

The primary beneficiaries of mass immigration are the capitalist-billionaire class. It floods the market with cheaper labor, depresses wages for citizens, decreases the likelihood of unionization, increases costs through scarcity and strains the social service net to the point it can eventually be scrapped. Pro-immigration leftists are useful idiots for the capitalist system they decry.

I've voted against Trump three times and have a sneaking suspicion I may again, but my rent has decreased the last two years after rising alarmingly the three years before. When illegals are deported, housing prices will fall.
