Uploaded today on the Thames Channel, this snippet from a 2000 Julie Walters interview is lovely:
It's only brief, but there's no shortage of warm praise for Victoria's talent, with references to characters such as Mrs Overall or Pat. It's plain to see how affectionately she views her friendship with Vic.
It seems she's there to promote Billy Elliot... still known as Dancer at that point. Which reminds me I need to nudge that film up my viewing bucket list.

Last week brought a nice little Vic-related treat: an opportunity to watch a Victoria Wood film on the big screen.
I was visiting the area near what used to be The Old Laundry Theatre, which has recently been renamed The Victoria Wood Theatre due to VW's support during her lifetime. And it just happened that they had a screening of Housewife, 49.
What a delight to engage with the film in a more communal way, and to hear the waves of laughter at certain lines and also to feel the energy change during the poignant moments.
I'd only watched the film once before, back in early 2021, so there were lots of details I'd forgotten, some of which came back as I watched. It's a really beautiful film which was really made to be seen on the big screen. The print appeared to have been taken from a recording on ITV (over the end credits there was even an announcer telling us that Taggart would be on after the break), but this added to the charm no end. There was also a little talk before the film, with some background on the background and the filming (one beach scene set at Christmas was filmed on a warm day, apparently leading to some dialogue being included about it being unseasonably warm, but if it was in the film, I missed it).
My previous comments about the film still stand. Casting, writing and production standards are all incredibly high and the period detail is perfect (in fact, there was an almost-comical collective gasp from the audience when Nella casually named a donated golliwog with the racist epithet "sambo").
The theatre itself is an attractive and quirky little building (presumably an actual former laundry).
And there was plenty of Victoria Wood merchandise on display in the foyer, most of it for sale.
I treated myself to a mug in the venue's signature fuschia pink (still a tad dusty here from packing materials. It will be lovingly washed before being put to use).
All in all, a magical experience. It was wonderful to be part of something that shows how beloved Victoria's work continues to be.

Oh thats lovely, I enjoyed Housewife 49 and featuring so many of her actors that appear in other productions
