Why would the man from the jail tell Bobby that Mr Scotsfield was dead when Mrs Scotsfield is standing right there?
That’s a very good point!
I guess they just figured Bobby knowing before she did and having to be the one to tell her would make the scene more dramatic than having someone else tell her.

JR was a scoundrel, of that I have no doubt. However scoundrels usually get what they want, I just wish Leonard Katzman as the Executive Producer hadn't weakened JR's character so much. JR needed to come out on top more, not get beaten like he did in the last four years of the show. Shame on you Lenny Katzman!
If Larry had so much power by then, he must have gone along with it.

I'm sitting here thinking, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but Miss Ellie and Dusty never had a real scene together. I know, they had a somewhat confrontation in the dream season, but other than that, I can't recall they ever having a scene together.

Would have made for good TV for him to had been invited to breakfast or dinner at Southfork.

I often thought that was a massive missed opportunity. As you say they only had one scene together in Southfork front garden while Miss Ellie sees to her flowers.

I think they shared a couple of scenes with other people, but not just the two of them.

Such a shame, there could've been some wonderful scenes with those two which should've happened given their families connections, in more ways than one.

A great scene, such a shame it was all a dream.

Miss Ellie was totally unfair to Bobby in the aftermath of Jock's death. She wants everything to go back to normal and when Bobby tells her that he's trying to do that and he may have to step in as president temporarily.
Miss Ellie was in denial. Basically, she was afraid to confront the reality so acted like the reality never really happened. When it finally hit, that famous scene in the kitchen when she broke down. This is how some people grieve.

She talks about having everyone at dinner, Bobby tells her, having Dinner together isn't going to make things normal, Miss Ellie says, neither is removing JR from the presidency.
Both of them were correct.

My issue is that she said it as if Bobby had an ulterior motive. It seemed that whenever they were in a pickle, always because of JR, they ask for Bobby's help and then hangs him out to dry. Plus, Bobby was the only one adult enough to deal with Jock's death. JR and Ray were totally out of it and Miss Ellie was in denial.
Bobby had a very good relationship with his father, with far less baggage than his siblings. J.R. saw Jock as the ultimate man, the epitome of Ewing Oil who led J.R. into the oil business and now J.R. himself had taken over. J.R. saw a lot of Jock's hard side, and sucked it all up. Gary has loads of baggage with Jock, a lot of mixed feelings from love, lack of warmth and empathy, distrust, betrayal, even hate. Ray saw Jock as a hero, a figurehead, who took him into Southfork, who gave him some rich plot of land on Southfork, and who he discovered was his father not that long before Jock's death.

J.R., Gary and Ray all have baggage with Jock of some kind. Bobby doesn't. Bobby was spoiled rotten by Jock in comparison.

Frankly, I was shocked at how quickly Bobby expected J.R. and Ray to just get back to normal. J.R. could never really separate the personal and the professional, so the end of Jock makes him think it's the end of Ewing Oil or that it'll never the same again. It took J.R. time to realize that it was about carrying on his father's legacy.

J.R. is something else. Lol

Explaining to John Ross the similarities of he and James to himself and Ray;

"At first I felt the same way about Ray that you feel about James. But in time, I was the first one to welcome him into the family. In time, we became as close as me and Bobby." Lol

He lied right to his sons face. Lol

That’s actually one of my favorite scenes of the later years. It’s such a great moment for the long time fans that knew what J.R. was referring to.

Everyone listening to that except for John Ross knows exactly how untrue it is yet you can’t help but laugh at it as it’s delivered with such a straight face

And you know the beauty of that scene?

Well, not only did he lie to John Ross's face but he actually sounded believeable which was one of the characters strengths.

That line by J.R. reminded me of another funny line, because J.R. just couldn't resist being J.R.

Bobby and J.R. needed Ray's help. J.R. layed it on really thick. "Ray, you're a Ewing. You are Jock's son. You, Bobby, and I brothers. As a Ewing and brother, you need to help us with this guy."

Then they meet with the guy and J.R. introduces his brother Ray like this:

"Hello. This is my brother Bobby, and our ranch foreman, Ray Krebbs."

HAHAHAHAHAHA! That brotherly love lasted about 10 seconds!

@Mustard Myers that is a very well thought out post. And when you said,

J.R., Gary and Ray all have baggage with Jock of some kind. Bobby doesn't. Bobby was spoiled rotten by Jock in comparison.

That is a great point!

In "Two-Fifty" the CIA guy tells JR that his "behind is grass". I suspect that he would have said something that rhymed before the censors got hold of the script but it sounds silly this way. It might have been better to use a different expression altogether.

Why did they have to make Cliff such a wimp? I just saw the Johnny Dancer beat down. That was embarrassing. JR couldn't fight a lick, but even he would have put up a better fight.

James was really annoying whenever he referred to J.R. as "daddy." Like, how old was he? He seemed a little old to be looking up to a man he didn't know as his "daddy." And for JR to just accept him was unrealistic.

Yeah he was really suspicious of Jamie, so why would he accept that James Richard Beaumont was his son!?! :)

It didn’t fit the character. It certainly wasn’t the J.R. we knew. He wouldn’t even accept John Ross until it was 100% proven he was really his.

Yes JR would've done a lot more investigating before readily believing that James was his son.

But saying that he did get very soft in his old age and a shadow of his former self.

He wouldn’t even accept John Ross until it was 100% proven he was really his.
Absolutely, look how detached he was to baby John.

Everyone critised Sue Ellen as a mother, but JR's behaviour was nasty and not one person in that family questioned it.

I know he wasn't sure if baby John was his, but he didn't know he wasn't either until Paternity suit.
